Chapter 47
Erza Pov
After what Y/n told me from Simon my mind was only back at the past, the days we five played together carefree were a long time ago. Even tough I remember it like yesterday, us running around in the village of Rosemary careless and happy playing hide and seek. Me meeting Simons little sister who was maybe 5 and me being 7 years old at the time. I took my coffee cup in hand that was resting on the table and drank the bitter black liquid. "Simon." I whispered with a strained voice.
Now I knew why Jellal was punishing himself by always pushing me away it's because of the guilt he feels towards me and what he had done in the past. When he told me his nightmare I couldn't bring it to hate him for killing Simon, because I knew the one thing he was hiding was exactly that, the pain and guilt he has over killing his best friend is enough already. I've unraveled him completely, now I knew almost everything about him, his past his deeds and why he is looking for atonement so desperately.
My right hand was gently brushing over his blue medium long hair since he laid with his head on my lap using it like a pillow. We both couldn't get a good rest this night but we were able to push trough the school day just fine. How long has it been since I last saw Simon? A year maybe. "Jellal when did this happen could you say it to me." I asked and I felt him nod slowly, I knew asking him about it was just giving him more pain but I had to.
I gazed at his face that was looking away from me. "It happened a year ago on the 12 of May and it was raining." He replied with a strained voice covering his eyes with his left hand that was shaking lightly. I gave him a fond smile while still moving my hand gently over his hair. The 12 of May, that's one day after I last met Simon I remembered.
"Jellal you have to move on, you can't stay like this and punish yourself for something you haven't done." I said smiling down at him. "I have forgiven you already for it." I whispered and he was now looking at me with wide open eyes before closing them again and laid a hand on his face covering them. "I can't accept it." He cried out in denial and I just let out a sad sigh. His left hand went up to me and gently touched my cheek before smiling forlornly. "You know Erza your mother said the exact same to me when it happened. That I have to move on and forget about the past when it happened." He replied and I looked a little surprised at him. "You met her in the ISF?" I asked and he nodded slowly. "I did, she was the first I worked with in a team since I was only a rookie back then and had to learn from the best, we weren't on equal rank so I was her subordinate." He said and then smiled a little from the memory.
"She was called the Scarlet Despair because she is one of the most ruthless agents in the agency. When the selection happened of who would work under which high rank agent, she was the only one that didn't raise her hand for me but she said that it was pointless for the others to raise their hands since she already chose me to work for her which shocked all the other members due to her reputation of never taking in a new agent under her hands. She only took those who already did a few dozen jobs with perfect score." He replied and I laughed softly from what he told me. "And she was the one who found me unconscious holding Simons dead body in my arms and a needle that was sticking in my neck." He added and I gave him a thoughtful look. "A needle and a type of poison that can alter a persons view of his surroundings." I whispered barely audible. "Is that what you want to tell me?" I asked and felt him nod.
"You know, I remember my mother saying something of a recruit she took under her hands four years ago." I replied and then saw him smile which made me happy.
I trailed the drawing he has on his cheek gently with my pointer finger before he spoke up again. "She wasn't the evil ruthless agent that others saw, she simply was hiding her true emotions but with me on her side she was able to laugh and have some fun at least, and when I found out she was your mother I was shocked and went pale." He added and I just giggled holding a hand in front of my mouth. "She actually has a dorky personality and jokes around often but on the jobs she is beating up targets nonstop." He added and I nodded.
"Yes I know she is a one of a kind person and my mother." I replied and then he sat up from my lap. "Better?" I asked giving him a short teasing smile and he was blushing a little which I noted looked extremely cute. I was in my dream land again since he gave me that handsome smile that always causes me to get strangely excited causing my own cheeks to flush. "Yes but you could have simply asked if I wanted to, not force me to lay on your lap by threatening to beat me." He replied and I rolled my eyes while letting out a snort and laughed laying my hands in front of my face from being shamefaced.
I gazed back at him. "Y/n, Do you want to visit Simons grave? it's here in town." I asked silently and he thought for a moment. I looked around the living room and noticed none of our friends were here, they all went to do their chores, I actually was happy that one time Jellal and I could be alone as he is completely different when it's just me and him, he's letting me be the dominant one a lot of times. "I think yes, I could at least see his grave one time." He replied and looked up to me smiling gently at him.
. . .
I parked his car in front of the cemetery and took his hand in mine for a second. We both got out closing the doors and headed down the steps of the nearby stairs. I noticed some people being here and a girl with dark violet hair standing at a grave. I was stopped in my tracks by Jellal holding my hand. "Erza, this is where I found your mother when I visited the cemetery." He whispered and I looked to the grave he was showing me.
My breath stopped as I read the name on the grave. It was my fathers grave and I never knew that it was here. The only thing I knew from him was what my mother told me. He died in an accident. "I never met him." I whispered and tears started welling in my eyes. I tried to fight back the tears but I couldn't, even if I never met him he was still my father. What my mother told me from him was that he would have loved me as his daughter and he would have been a great father if the accident never happened.
I felt Y/n hug me gently to him. All my memory's are from me and my mother without a father, I've asked her countless times to tell me from him and how he died but it was always the same answer, "He died in an accident." Maybe I was never meant to know how it is to have a father who protects you, shows you how to fix something or simply is there for you when you need him. "Erza your mother told me a little about him." He silently said to me as his right hand was gently pushing my chin to meet his gaze and brush over my cheek to wipe a tear away. "I want to know it." I replied my voice almost a whisper as I was laying my head on his chest. "Your mother and father loved each other and she was pregnant at the time but something happened to your father and he began drinking, one day he attacked your mother and she killed him in self defense to protect you." He replied and I closed my eyes knowing I couldn't hold back the sudden flow of emotion.
"I always wanted to know the warmth of a full family from a mother and father but I never got to know it, not like the others, not like Natsu, Gray, Juvia and Lucy." I said and sobbed into his chest silently, my left hand was gripping his shoulder. "I was the only one of us to never feel the full warmth of a family only partly, Juvia lost her parents when she was a little child, Gray lost his mother, Natsu lost his brother for a short while. Lucy's mother died due to a sudden illness and you had almost lost your own brother." I said and sobbed again. "All I've wanted was to know a fathers care for his child. Am I pathetic to think I deserve such happiness now." I asked looking up to him and he stared down at me intently.
"No Erza you have every right to have it but it's long gone, we have to move on and live for those we care about, your mother Erza surely did everything for you and your happiness, she gave you all the love and affection she could and now you are here, a grown up girl that stands tall and bright as the midday sun." He whispered and my heart was now thumping madly. I averted my eyes off him. "I know." I whispered hiding my blushing face from him.
We slowly walked towards Simons grave and I noticed someone stand in front. I tapped the girls shoulder. "Hello miss may we know who you are? Are you perhaps a relative of Simon or friend?" I asked the girl that was looking at the grave wiping the tears away. "You can join. I'm Kagura Mikazuki, Simons sister." She said and my eyes grew wide.
Y/n's hand was suddenly gripping mine tight. "Simon, my older brother, why did he have to die." She said crying into her hands. "We are Simons old friends from the past, we met when we were kids." I said and she turned around to face us. "Do you remember me Kagura, you called me older sister when you were little." I said and she was looking at us with so much mixed feelings, she seemed completely exhausted and tired. She just fell forward and dropped into mine and Jellal's arms. "I'm sorry but I just need someone to lean on right now." She said grabbing both our shoulders.
Y/n and I looked at each other for an answer before we just sighed and stood there holding her in our arms. "It's ok do you want to talk about why you seem so sleep deprived and exhausted." I asked and she nodded not pulling away from our shoulders. "I want to know the truth of my brothers death, I know that he wasn't killed in a gang shooting as a passer by from a stray bullet, it wouldn't be like him to be out so late without a reason." She added clutching us tightly to her.
Jellal pulled her away from us to look at her with a expression that was breaking my heart to see him like this. I saw the guilt he felt for it, coming from his eyes. "I can tell you the truth Kagura, I know how he died." He whispered weakly to her and she looked up at him with hope. "I want to know how it happened and who it was." She replied letting go of us.
Jellal was looking wordlessly at her. "It happened at the 12 of May, Simon and I were on a mission he was part of a special ops group like me and we were tasked to clean up gang hideout that was producing drugs." He said taking a deep breath. "I don't really know how exactly it happened but I was hit by needle with a strong toxin that caused my perception to be distorted and during the shooting we had with the gang members I shot Simon on accident and shortly after that I fell unconscious." He explained heartbroken and looked down. "I can understand if you want revenge." He whispered and I felt his hand squeeze mine.
Kagura was frozen looking at him. "I only wanted to know the truth but finding out the killer of my brother is no one else then his closest friend is even more cruel." She said and then teared up grabbing him by the collar. "Why, why did it happen." She asked for an answer. Y/n looked at her with tears himself. "I don't know, all I know is that the same man is responsible for Simons death that is responsible for the death of Erza's father and for almost killing my brother." Jellal said with a raspy voice. "The one we all want revenge on is José Porla." He added and gritted his teeth.
Kagura gripped his collar tightly and glared at him tears flowing. "I'll never forgive you Jellal for taking my brothers live even if it was an accident but you weren't able to stop it so I wont hunt you down, just promise me that you will avenge him and kill the man who made you do it." She said and let go of him slowly.
Her gaze stopped on me for a moment. "Erza, you should know Simon had a crush on you." She said and then turned her face away. "It's shocking to find out that the girl my brother liked is together with the guy who killed him, but life is full of surprises." She added shrugging. "You asked why I was sleep deprived it's because I was never able to sleep well since the day he died and I wanted to find his killer but now I can sleep knowing you look after him and I can see he feels guilty for it." She added and then walked away leaving us alone.
I worriedly looked over at Jellal who was looking after her, I gently touched his cheek, "Hey stop looking at other girls." I scoffed and he shook his head. "I wasn't I'm just..." I pressed my finger on his lips to shush him. "I know you were thinking of Simons death and why she didn't try to strangle you probably." I replied and then went up with my hand to gently caress his cheek. "Since we two kissed the others call you my boyfriend and me your girlfriend. But I know we are best friends, who care for each other." I whispered and saw him look down. "Jellal." I whispered and he hummed in response before I gently kissed him holding his hands in mine. I parted from the kiss and looked up at him. "Thank you for showing me my fathers grave and the truth my mother never wanted to tell me because it probably hurts her to think about it." I said and he smiled softly. "I have to thank you Erza, you made pull through all this and the sorrow of killing Simon." He replied and kissed me back.
I couldn't believe it but I finally know how my father looked and the truth behind it. All these years that I wanted to know it, it was here, right in front of me. "Let's go home." I replied silently and he nodded letting go of me a small smile tugging on his lips as he thanked me for bringing him here.
