00. Before You Start
Hello, I am back with a new book.
Before you start reading, please note the following:
1. Setting: The story is set in a fictional version of India.
2. Characters: Arthit and Kong are in an arranged marriage, set up by their respective families.
Both Arthit and Kong are orignally thai, whose great great grandfather had moved to India, fell in love with local woman and settled in India. They have adopted Indian culture, traditions and food while also preserving some of their own traditions.
A) Arthit
Arthit is the CEO of Rojanapat Industries, and he has a younger brother, Arhan, who is a legitimate pain but dearly loved by Arthit.
A city boy, Arthit is 30 years and 6 months old. Since turning 30, he has felt much older at heart. The loneliness has crept in, and he has devoted himself to work to avoid the melancholic, ever-expanding black hole in his heart.
Old-fashioned about love, Arthit dislikes casual dating and has strong opinions on many subjects, which he is not afraid to express. He doesn't mind an arranged marriage and yearns for a long-lasting and fulfilling relationship. He prefers men, and the only option for him is a male omega. His understanding family has no objections to this.
Confident about his desires from a young age, Arthit has mostly studied abroad, returning to India only four years ago. Consequently, he is a bit out of touch with the real India. His family speaks Tamil, but he only understands it a little, and only when spoken slowly. He is fluent in Hindi and English and has learned a bit of Thai out of curiosity about his ancestral homeland.
Arthit is fond of poems and sher-o-shayari. He loves meat and can eat it at all three meals of the day. He also enjoys trying different cuisines and exploring new high-end restaurants.
His guilty pleasure is dancing, a secret he keeps. He dreams of someday dancing with his significant other and having a great time.
B) Kongpob
Kongpob, a 26-year-old high school science teacher, lives in a village he dearly loves. He is his parents' only biological child and an omega.
Having studied outside his state, Kongpob has friends from all parts of India. He is fluent in Tamil and English and can hold conversations in Hindi, though he wouldn't call himself fluent. An absolute vegetarian, he loves street food and has never felt the need to try cuisines from other countries. He loves his T-shirts, hoodies, jeans, and shorts, as well as Indian attire, which he flaunts at every opportunity. He is not fond of formal wear or suits.
Alpha Varun is Kongpob's confidant and fierce protector. Varun's father was a dear friend of Kongpob's father. After Varun's parents died in an accident, Kongpob's parents adopted and raised him as their own. Varun, ten years older than Kongpob, is married to an omega woman named Maya.
Kongpob dreams of a marriage with a partner who loves him wholeheartedly. He never imagined he would consider an arranged marriage.
Kongpob harbors a secret that has ruined his chances at finding love. After his last breakup five years ago, he shut himself off from romantic relationships and fears forming bonds with people his age. He finds solace in an online community and, despite his parents' efforts, has denied himself the chance to date and find a partner.
In his free time, Kongpob writes gay romance stories and has a decent following on Quill, the site where he publishes his work. He has made some online friends there and dreams of writing a bestseller one day, though he doesn't think it will happen anytime soon.
Kongpob dreams of finding a partner passionate about Indian culture and traveling with them to experience things he missed out on due to being an omega. Although he has two left feet when it comes to dancing, he loves to watch a good dance. He has strong opinions but often sacrifices his own happiness to please others.
Active in promoting tourism, food, and business in his village and district, Kongpob manages a YouTube channel dedicated to these efforts.
3. Concept: I know gay marriages are not the norm in India. My logical brain wouldn't rest until I found a solution, so I decided to set this story in an omegaverse (no m-preg). In this universe, every person has a secondary gender—alpha, beta, or omega. But, they are not wolves, they do not shift and there is no heat. Just some basic instincts that we associate with alphas and omegas.
A) Alpha:- 20% of the population are alphas. An alpha can be male or female, though female alphas are rare. They have a birthmark on their wrists and are physically the strongest among secondary genders. Alphas are go-getters, often temperamental, possessive, protective, and territorial. An alpha needs an omega to keep from going mad over time. - Alphas usually mate only with omegas since only omegas can balance their natures. Alphas can produce alpha children only with omegas. A beta woman can only have beta or omega children. Alphas generally occupy high social positions and are well-respected, though some also lead criminal outfits.
B) Beta:- 60% of the population are betas. Betas can mate with other betas and omegas. Only women can give birth. A beta has a recessive alpha gene, and their children are typically betas, sometimes omegas. Betas are strategic minds in alpha-run corporations and hold many high-level positions. They are a loyal and skilled workforce.
C) Omega:- 20% of the population are omegas. Only female omegas can give birth, making them highly coveted by rich alpha families. Even a female omega from a poor family will likely marry into a well-off family (unless she elopes with someone of her choice). Historically, male omegas have faced violence and discrimination because they cannot bear children and were often seen as useless. Many were terminated at birth to avoid being an extra mouth to feed or to save a family's pride.- Male omegas who survived were often used for labor due to their perceived physical strength. They were typically married to widowers or divorcees who already had children and wanted a companion. Male omegas were generally not respected or treated well. Unmarried or non-mated male omegas faced unwanted advances from alphas and had few job options due to lack of education. Their lives were often unfulfilling, leading some to consider killing an omega child an act of kindness or pity.
- As male omega numbers decreased due to infanticide, the demand for female omegas remained high, leading to societal chaos. Female omegas became more precious, and only rich men could afford to mate with them. Omegas, known for their calm and nurturing nature, became essential for family harmony. The lack of omegas led to increased alpha aggression, anger, and frustration, resulting in higher crime rates and violence. People eventually realized that omegas were not just for reproduction but also brought joy, peace, and nurtured families.
- Some modern-thinking alphas decided to take male omegas as mates, recognizing that, although they couldn't have children, male omegas could provide a loving home and companionship. This led to reforms and increased acceptance of male omegas, especially among young alphas. Many rich alphas, who had lost their omega wives or were divorced, began taking male omegas as mates to avoid going mad. Adoption also gained acceptance out of necessity. While some families clung to traditional notions, most of society had moved on, and male omegas were legally protected.
- After marriage, omegas move to their in-laws' house, regardless of gender. If a female is an alpha, the omega (male or female) will reside with her. Thus, gay marriages between alpha and omega are not frowned upon.
4. Language: This story will include dialogues in Indian languages, with translations provided in brackets immediately after the dialogue.
5. Poetry: Arthit has an interest in poems and sher-o-shayari, so he will recite some sher in the story. Translations will be provided right below each sher. I have tried to translate the sher as accurately as possible, but if anyone with a good command of English can improve it, please comment, and I will correct it.
6. Story Length: This is a short story, not an elaborate plot. It does not have dramatic twists or turns. Imagine reading a few pages from someone's diary or tracing a part of their life—this story is more like that.
