Chapter XXXV
Nodding, Star stepped forward looping her arm in mine before pulling me out the door with her with the boys following tail.
"What time is it?" I asked, once we got out of the office. My stomach growled, reminding me that I hadn't eaten all day.
"9 PM," Jeremy replied from behind us.
My eyes widened in shock. I was gone all day. My stomach rumbled, reminding me of how much I was craving food.
"We can stop at the Caf," said Zion, reading my mind. I smiled back at him before turning to Star.
"How was class?"
"It's exam week. You're sooooo lucky you haven't been in class. The only thing I look forward to now is battles in angel class."
"Yeah, I'm glad I'm not there," I agreed as I shuddered at the thought of an exam in math.
We arrived quickly to the Cafteria where the boys offered to get food as me and Star settled down at a nearby table.
"SO tell me what's new. We haven't caught up in so long," I said, placing my face on my hands, edging forward.
Blushing, she admitted, "Me and Joel are dating now."
"WHAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?!?!" I exclaimed, reaching over the table to tackle her in a hug. She giggled at my response, her cheeks turning a darker hint of red.
"TELL ME EVERYTHING!"
"Well, we've been hanging out together for awhile. We didn't want to put a label on it just yet and I wanted to tell you but then with everything that happened, it was never the right time. He asked me to be his girlfriend when you were in the hospital."
"I'm so happy for you Star!!!! I'm so sorry I wasn't there" I squeezed her hand, sad I wasn't there for my bestfriend.
"I think almost dying is a good excuse," she joked, grinning at me.
"What are you two giggling about?" Joel asked, strolling up to the table with a platter of food in hand. I got up, throwing my arms around him in a hug and he chuckled once he realized why.
"I'm SOOOOOO happy for you guys!!!!" I exclaimed happily.
"We wanted to tell you. It just was never the right ti-" He began to explain.
"I know now and that's all that matters," I said, interrupting him. He smiled before sitting beside Star and wrapping his arm over her shoulder. I winked at her at the show of affection to which she rolled her eyes in amusement.
I looked down at the platters the boys had brought. Everything looked so delicious I didn't know where to start. I grabbed the blood bag nearest to me, downing it in seconds before I grabbed a couple wings off the platter, sucking the meat clean off in one breath. I looked up for a brief second to find Star and Tom eying me in shock.
"Sorry," I mumbled through my stuffed mouth.
"You haven't eaten in a day, I'd be the same way. How can you eat that fast?" Star asked incredulously.
"Vampire speed," Zion answered, downing a blood bag of his own in a second.
"That's so cool," Jeremy commented in wonderment.
I smiled before continuing to eat everything placed in front of me until I felt satisfied.
"We need to talk," Zion whispered into my ear, tightening his hold on my waist. I looked up at him to find a guarded expression upon his face which made my stomach do somersaults. Something was troubling him. I nodded, before turning to my friends.
"Hey guys, I'll meet you all back at the Wing in a few."
"You better," Star said sternly, before taking off with Joel, Jeremy, and Tom.
I turned to Zion with expectant eyes, waiting for him to speak his mind. He watched me quietly, with a grim expression on his face.
"I'm sorry. About Edward. I didn't expect it to be that hard to leave his head," I answered honestly.
"I know. But, why didn't you tell me when you left the Wing?"
"I'm sorry. I wanted to but it was late and I know how worried you've been lately. I wanted you to get some res-"
"Saron, HOW am I supposed to protect you when you hide everything from me? You almost died. Again. And I couldn't do anything to save you," he yelled, causing the nearby tables to turn and look at us.
"You don't need to protect me Zion," I snapped back.
"I'm your mate. It's my job to protect you. I would die if I lost you, don't you get that????" he yelled back, getting up from the table and storming off in a huff.
"Zion!" I called after him, rushing towards him to catch up. He stopped, avoiding my gaze as his eyes gleamed a bright red.
"I'm sorry," I said, wrapping my hands around his waist. I felt terrible that I was constantly lying and hiding things from him. I could see the hurt, the pain, the worry in his eyes. I never wanted to be the cause of that hurt but what else could I do? I had to protect him because just like him, it would kill me to lose him. It was my responsibility to destroy the dark magic. It was my responsibility to save my Father.
"You can't do the spell," he stated, rubbing my arms as he maintained my gaze.
"You know I have to Zion."
"NO. I'm not losing you again Saron."
"You won't," I assured him, cupping his face with my hands. He jerked from my touch as his fangs protruded from his mouth in anger.
"I know when you're lying, Saron. All that dark magic will kill you and we both know it."
I stayed silent, realizing there was no use in arguing. I hated to admit it but, he was right. But I also wasn't going to give up on Edward. I nodded, standing on my tiptoes to plant a kiss on his lips. The air around us was electric, sparking until our lips made contact. Every bone in my body starting urging for more as I pressed my body against his. Our mate bond flowed with magic as our bodies became one, entwined in a kiss of passion. I could feel all his emotions. His love. His pain. His hurt. His worry. His desire. His need. I felt them as if they were my own. I opened my mouth, allowing his fang to make contact with my mouth as my taste buds exploded with feeling. I moaned in pleasure, consuming his tongue with my own hungrily. I could feel my claws start to protrude as I pierced them into his back in efforts of pulling him closer. He pushed me away slowly, breaking our contact before things went further. I smiled at him, and he shot me his perfect, crooked smile that made my legs turn to jelly. I slipped my hand in his as we walked out, racing together towards the White wing.
We arrived in seconds, smiling at one another as we gazed into each others eyes. The world became still when I was with him. I wanted nothing more than this moment to last forever. I reached up, planting a kiss on his cheek before letting go and walking into the Wing. I found the four of them sprawled out on a couch in the Common, waiting for me as I knew they would.
"Finally!" Jeremy called out as he saw me approaching.
"I was starting to think you spent the night with Zion," Star added, winking at me naughtily.
"Shut up!" I said, splitting the apple she had in her hand straight in half causing it to plop into her lap.
"Hey!" she complained, picking it up and using her powers to put it back together.
Giggling, I plopped down beside Tom.
"Hey stranger," he joked.
"What's new with you?" I asked, smiling.
"Nothing as exciting as people constantly trying to kill you."
I laughed before asking, "Really though. I've been gone for so long I don't know what's going on anymore."
"Everything's the same. I might take part in the next skill assessments that are coming up."
"You'll definitely have better luck than me," I replied, snorting.
"Hey, did I pass the skill assessments? Surviving murder from one of the Five should definitely jump me up to a fifth year," I joked, dryly.
He chuckled before replying, "You'd be the first person to jump from a first to a fifth year."
Shaking my head, I admitted, "I just want everything to be normal again."
"Hey," he said, wrapping his arm around my shoulder, "It'll all work out."
"Hey Saron, unlike you we have class tomorrow and it's almost midnight," Jeremy cracked, yawning.
"Sorry guys." I said, getting up to walk off with Star. We said bye to the boys before heading back to the the section.
I walked in to my former section and all the chatter died as me and Star entered. Ignoring them, I walked straight towards my bed, grabbing my bag and stuffing it with clothes, products, etc. as fast as I could. Star grabbed her things as well, shoving them in her back. When she finished, she swiveled around waving her middle finger dramatically, flicking off everyone who dared to stare causing them to look away.
When I was done , I turned to Star to say, "Ready?"
"Definitely."
I walked out, eying Alice coldly before I walked out. I heard whispers as we walked away, ignoring them. We walked down the hall past all the other sections as the Headmaster had told us before we came to a few doors, which I assumed were private rooms. I turned the knob of one, which was locked. Seeing it had a hole, I grabbed a Bobby pin from my bun and used it to pick it until it unlocked.
"Where'd you learn that?" Star asked curiously.
"Sometimes Amy and Bea would pull pranks by locking me in my room so I had to learn how to unlock it if I wanted to use the bathroom or eat."
Huffing in disgust, she turned the doorknob walking in with me following. I closed the door behind me, looking up to see a King sized bed in a spacious room with a flat screen TV attached to the wall. To the far corner, there was also a desk and a night lamp perched on top of it. There was also a private bathroom deeper into the room stacked with all sorts of hair products.
"You're telling me they have rooms like this and we've been living in sections."
"I'm never leaving," I announced, running over to jump onto the bed. Star giggled, joining me by plopping down beside me.
"Do you think Joel is your mate?"
"I don't know yet. I know I've never felt like this with anyone else before."
"I'm happy for you."
"What was up with Zion? He looked upset."
"He was mad I didn't tell him before going to Edward. And he doesn't want me to do the spell."
"Do you really think you can do it? Save Edward."
"I don't know. I hope so."
We laid there in silence, lost in our own thoughts for a few moments before I decided to get up and go to the bathroom to take a shower. I took a long, hot shower washing away all my worries as I enjoyed myself. When I came back out, Star was fast asleep in the bed snoring away. Chuckling, I climbed into the bed beside her, falling asleep.
