Chapter II

"Great! Let's introduce you to the headmaster and get you to your assigned wing!"

I followed them silently, lost in my thoughts while they chatted away amongst one other. I began to get a sinking feeling that coming here was a terrible idea. I was probably overthinking but I had never been out of my room for years let alone near so many people before. I began to feel overwhelmed and could feel myself stiffening in discomfort.

"Hey, Sam is it? Are you okay over there?" questioned Sara, cocking her head while watching me with uncertainty.

"Saron," I mumbled, rolling my eyes.

"What was that?"

"My name is Saron," I stated clearly, glaring at her.

"Right..." "So Bea what kind of spells have you and Amy been practicing with your mother?" she said, turning back to continue conversating with Amy and Bea.

Snorting, I continued to trail behind them for a few minutes until we finally arrived.

"Here we are!" declared Sara excitedly as we reached a large double doored wooden frame. She swung the door open letting us enter first while she followed in behind us. It was a vast room, decorated with antiques and artifacts of all kinds. In the center of the room was an enormous desk with a sign on the front saying, Headmaster. The desk was covered in papers written in different foreign languages and all sorts of magical items which I did not recognize strewn about.

"Sara! Who do you have for us today?" questioned an older lady striding towards us with a black bodycon dress coupled with a blue corduroy blazer and a sly smile on her face. She didn't look a day past thirty but had hair white as snow and piercing blue eyes on a face unscathed by even one wrinkle.

"I'm Amy, and this is my sister Bea," piped up Amy, looking at the headmaster expectantly.

"Her and her sister are witches. I'm not sure what she is yet," added Sara gesturing at me.

"Thanks Sara, you can rejoin the others," she said with a smile, dismissing Sara.

"If you guys need anything, come find me! I'm in the Blue wing," Sara offered with a reassuring smile to us before she walked out of the office.

"And you are?" asked the headmaster, eying me with curiosity.

"Saron."

"Do you have any idea of your abilities so we can place you?"

"Sorry, I don't know."

"Odd," she replied with a facial expression I couldn't place which faded as quickly as it came.

"Luckily for you Saron, we have a solution for that. Come girls."

We followed her deeper into the office until we came to a room not too far from where we began. This room was dull in comparison to the others. It had no color at all. There was just one singular glass box located in the center of the room and a screened panel on the wall. It lit up as soon as we entered.

"This room is mostly for unknowns, like Saron, that don't know who they are. But, we also test the knowns as well to see if you may harbor any other abilities that may be dormant at this time. All you do is step into the glass box and once it's closed, your abilities are analyzed inside. We have supernatural technology that scans you and determines what type of power you possesses. We then place you in a wing with students of similar powers so you may be around those who may help you control and hone your abilities. Alright, who wants to go first?"

I shuffled my feet uncomfortably while maintaining eye contact with the ground. I knew for a fact I didn't want to go first. What if I had no powers? That would confirm that I belong nowhere.

To my relief, Amy stepped forward and confidently stepped into the glass box, closing the door behind her. As soon as she shut the door, a whirring sound activated a red laser that scanned her body from head to toe. Once it finished scanning her, a blue foggy substance filled the box before disappearing back into the compartment it was released from. On the screened panel, the words 100% Witch was displayed with images of their magical instruments and their Latin symbol.

"Asignment: Red Wing," a computerized voice rang out as the glass door opened and Amy stepped out with a grin on her face.

Bea, now more visibly relaxed, strode past Amy into the glass door. As the door secured itself shut with a click, it proceeded to scan her and release the sea colored fog.

The computerized voice once again announced, "Asignment: Red Wing" at its completion.

"Let's go Bea!!" Amy said excitedly as she ran towards Bea in, pulling her towards the door with her.

"Don't you girls want to wait for your sister?"

"That's not our sister," replied Bea with a frown on her face, shooting me daggers.

"But, I thought you girls came tog-"

"It's fine, Headmaster. They can go." I interrupted.

"Very well then. There are signs at the top of each hallway directing you to your wing. If you are confused, grab any of the students and ask for directions. I'll also check in and see how you're settling in. Welcome to Edgewood."

Amy and Bea rushed out with not so much as a glance behind them. I felt myself release a breath I didn't know I was holding in. This was a good thing. If I had no powers, I most certainly didn't want them knowing.

I turned my head to find the Headmaster looking at me with a sad smile on her face.

"It's fine, really. We're not close," I reassured her before walking towards the glass door.

I felt my heart beat quicken and butterflies begin to form in the pit of my stomach. I gulped and tried to still myself as I stepped into the glass box. I clawed my nails into my palm in an attempt to keep myself from shaking. I watched the lasers scan my body as I trembled. Breathe, I kept telling myself. Before I knew it, the fog was covering me and within an instant it started to clear. I waited and waited for the computer to announce what I was but was met with a deadly silence. I looked through the glass to the headmaster in confusion. She narrowed her eyes at me before rushing over to the panel and pressing a few buttons before it announced, "Arogen."

The glass door unlocked and she rushed towards me her eyes wide with fear, a look I knew all too well.

"Saron, please wait in my office I will be with you soon," she said quickly as she pushed me towards the door.

"But- Miss- I don't know what I am," I insisted, struggling to find my words.

"I'll come get you shortly, please wait in the office," she pleaded with me, giving me one last shove out the door.

I stood at the other side of the door dumbfounded, trying to make sense of what just happened. I heard the headmaster yelling urgently from the other side of the door, "COME TO THE POTENT NOW."

I walked away slowly towards the office with my heart beating so fast I thought it was going to jump out of my chest. Arogen? What did that mean? She obviously knew something. Why wouldn't she tell me? Remembering the fear in her eyes, I felt my eyes well up with tears. Before I knew it, I could feel an ocean of tears streaming down my face one after the other. I was so frustrated at being kept in the dark. All my life I was kept in the dark. About my Mother. About my father. About who I was. About where I came from. Now this.

I found a seat, sinking into it as I drowned in my worries and confusion for what seemed like hours. I finally started to hear elevated voices coming from the direction of the room I was told to leave. Disregarding the headmaster's advice, I got up and walked towards the voices and heard them getting louder as I came to the room. I drew near to the door, pressing my ears to it in an effort to hear what was being said. I felt my senses sharpen and closed my eyes as I focused on the voices.

"Sophia it's not possible," insisted a man who's voice I did not recognize.

"She's Arogen. I didn't believe it at first either but when has the scanner been wrong?" said the headmaster exasperatedly.

"How is this possible? They had them killed years ago," piped in another voice I couldn't place.

"What do we do with her now? She can't be allowed to stay here," another woman's voice added.

"Come on John. Her parents are dead and her sisters don't even acknowledge her. Where would she go? It's safer for her to stay here. She can't survive alone out there. She doesn't even know who she is. This is the best place for her," said the Headmaster.

"It's better to keep her here where we can keep an eye on her. Where is she now?" questioned the man's voice from before.

"She's in my office."

I heard shuffling and backed away from the door and ran back to the office where I sat down and tried to stable my breathing. Who am I? Why are they so afraid of me? My mind was racing with questions. The headmaster was right. Where would I go? Back to a home where I was unwanted? Where Mrs. Gerbin my mother drugged me for years out of fear? Maybe she was right all along. I was a monster. I had never been out in the world before. Where would I even go? I didn't belong anywhere. I had no choice but to stay here where I was unwanted. I had no alternative. I felt a shot of anger rush through my body. Why was it always me? I never did anything to anyone but I was always met with harsh glances and fearful looks. I felt my body heat up, bubbling from all the feelings I had kept inside me for so long. It wasn't fair. I clenched my fists and willed myself to relax as I heard a door open and footsteps draw nearer to me.

"Come Saron," the Headmaster called out as she emerged with a man and a woman by her side.

I reluctantly rose and walked towards her.

She watched me with a guarded look for a brief second before turning on her heel and walking back, leading me back to the room where I was to be assigned. I followed them in silence searching their faces every so often for any clue as to what they were thinking. They each avoided my gaze and stared blankly ahead until we reached the room.

The man stepped forward, holding the door open for the rest of us. As I walked in, there were two other people seated in the room, waiting who rose to their feet upon my arrival.

"Saron, this is John, our Wing Assignment Evaluator and Sophia, counselor for our gifted students," said the Headmaster breaking the silence.

"I'm Alan and this is Sengal. We both oversee the institution under the Headmaster," spoke up the man who had appeared alongside the Headmaster.

I glanced at each of them separately and was met with a cold, grim gaze and decided to break the awkward silence by getting straight to the point.

"Can anyone tell me what Arogen is or are you all just going to keep staring at me?"

John looked over at the Headmaster, who nodded in approval, before clearing his throat and asking me, "Saron, who is your father?"

"John, we know who her father is. It's time the child knew who she was," spoke up Sophia.

"What is going on? Someone please tell me," I asked, perplexed and agitated at being kept in the dark.

The Headmaster stepped towards me, comfortingly placing her hands upon my shoulders before softening her gaze and revealing the truth.

"Saron, you are a witch. But you are also a vampire. And a werewolf. And an angel. You are a hybrid of the four strongest supernatural creatures. We call your kind Arogen. We thought all the Arogens were destroyed years ago but you must be the last one left. That means your father must be none other than Edward, the infamous tribrid. Edward disappeared from the supernatural world 10 years ago and hasn't been heard from since. He may very well be dead. I know this is a lot for you to take in right now but you must keep it a secret. If anyone was to discover that the Arogen species was not in fact, extinct, your life would be in danger. Even we would not be able to protect you from all the creatures that would come running in order to have a taste of your power."
