The ghost ship
All has been quiet after the Sirens last major attack, the sea has seen more clear blue skies than a fleet of siren ships, but the warriors of Azur lane must be ever visual and to sound the alarm. Laffy sluggishly glides on the water around the base, doing her nightly rounds, doing her best to keep from falling asleep. "Laffy!" A voice called out from behind her. Laffy turns her head to see Javelin. "Javelin." She says in her exhausted tone.
"The commander asked me to join you. Have you noticed anything interesting?" She asks as she glides beside her. "No, all clear." Laffy replies. The two continue until a noise catches their attention. "Sirens? Already?" Javelin says in surprise and takes off with laffy a distance behind her. Javelin stops when she sees an ominous green glow from under the waves, then a rusty bow and hull of a ship shoots out of the water and rights itself as it creaks and groans with the rattling of the anchor chains.
Javelin and laffy stand there slack-jawed as the ship passes by. Upon the front of the ship, U.S.S. Arkansas is in bold and rust riddled lettering. "Laffy, back to base quickly, we need to tell the commander!" Javelin exclaims, and the two hurry back to base as the ghost ship carried on in the opposite direction.
Off in the distance on an isolated island, two Sirens watch as the U.S.S. Arkansas trudges along, the six twin turrets swiveling from side to side as if searching for targets. "Return to base and tell the Empress, he has returned." One says to the other. The siren nods and quickly takes off.
THE NEXT DAY
Wyoming walks down the quiet halls of the central hub heading for the commander's office. The commander had called for her once she had got ready for her morning routine. She heard voices coming from the office as she approached the door and gently knocked. "Who is it?" A gruff voice asked from within. "It's Wyoming, sir." She replies as she adjusts her hat. "Come in." The commander says, and Wyoming walks in. As she walks in Enterprise, Prince of Wales, Javelin, Laffey, and Bismarck standing around the commander's desk.
"What's going on?" She asked as she looked at everyone until her eyes landed on the commander. "Wyoming, you're gonna want to sit down for this." He states, and Wyoming sits down, looking concerned. "Javelin, Laffey, please tell Wyoming what you told us." He says, and Javelin nods.
Wyoming sits there, shocked, confused, and overwhelmed, but mostly overjoyed, her sibling, who she thought was gone forever, was back.
"Arkansas is back?" She asked on the verge of tears. "We didn't see an actual person. We only saw the ship itself and with a ghostly haunting hue." Javelin replied as Laffey nodded in agreement. "What had happened to Arkansas before? I never got to meet this individual." Bismarck says as she turns her attention to Wyoming. "I know what happened, I was there that night." Enterprise says as she sits down.
"There was an attack in the Atlantic, so Hornet, Baltimore, Arkansas, and i were sent out to fight." Enterprise said as she stared at the floor. The others remained silent as they listened. "Arkansas being our heavy hitter was getting battered by enemy fire and would rush in, I remember he had a look about him like he had been hurt and betrayed. One of the sirens said something, but I couldn't hear it. The next thing we knew, one of them charged up an attack and aimed at us. Arkansas took it head on, and when the fighting stopped and the smoke cleared, he was gone." Enterprise says and looks to Wyoming. "Again Wyoming, I'm really sorry."
"It's ok, Enterprise, you girls did your best." Wyoming says as she gently places her hand on the carrier's shoulder. "If Arkansas is indeed back, I want you to at least try to make contact tonight." The commander says and turns to Wyoming. "Wyoming as of tonight, you are free of your secretary duties until we know for sure." He says. Wyoming nods, "Thank you, sir." She replied. The girls leave to office to plan their approach.
ACROSS THE SEA, SOMEWHERE REMOTE
The Sirens work tirelessly on their equipment and fleets as a siren power walks past busy individuals to one siren who looks like she's of great importance, dressed simular to royalty and has a beautiful but terrifying grace to her, the siren bows as she approached her. "Empress, I bring great news." She says almost ecstatic. "Speak." The Empress says as she sits on her throne. "He's returned, my lady."
The siren states and looks up at her. "Your fallen king." The Empress' eyes widened in shock and leaned forward, uncrossing her legs. "Ark is alive?" She asked, keeping her composure.
"His ship was sighted last night, but it disappeared as soon as the sun rose. He's completely bound to the night, my lady." The siren states, and the Empress nods. "Have Tester, Observer, and Purifier observe him tonight and have them report to me directly." Empress says, and the siren nods and turns to walk away. "And Omitter, I mean observe, nothing more." Empress says sternly. "Yes, my lady." Omitter replies and leaves.
Empress stands up and, for once, has a genuine smile upon her lips as she walks to the corner of her room and pulls out a picture she keeps hidden away from prying eyes. The picture shows her in her royal attire standing beside a man dressed in a navy uniform, but instead of a standard navy cap and coat, he's dressed in a ball cap and trenchcoat She smiles and gently kisses the image of the man. "Soon, my dear." She whispers.
