Chapter seventeen: It's back

"Prepare your weapons and gather all the men, now!" Commander barked to the warriors near the gate of the academy. "I hate that dragon! It keeps coming back!"

"You can say that again," I said. Flash warriors from the rooftops and balconies blew their big horns for preparation. Claes entered the gate together with Victor, Lenard, and Chloriette. "Commander." Claes as he and the team came to us. With a greeting and despite what was going on, Victor smiled and waved his hand at me.

"Gather your groups to Craully in Sonata village. If that bloody, ugly, mother of evil reaches that place, people in there will be in danger as well." Commander Grayson ordered the captain- his brother. Claes didn't question it. As we passed each other, Chloriette's eyes shown confusion, scared, worried, and concern. Lenard's expression was scared despite many weeks of training. As for Victor, he waved "see you later" at me. Sean assembled wizards with violet robes and uniforms to set off. "Okay, guys. This is not a drill! You know what to do!" I watched them fly away with their armored pegasi, preparing to stop the dragon's evil chaos. "Wait, commander, where are we going?" I asked him as we went outside.

"You're coming with me to fight the three-headed ugly creature."

"That sounds wonderful." I smiled for no reason. No reason at all. Maybe because of the excitement.

Commander's units were armed with heavy, deadly weapons over their black uniforms, crafted with gold and leather. The other warriors brought their pegasi at their side. Commander recited a spell that made his armor and weapon layered on him. His obsidian armor made him looked like a very tough Flash warrior. A huge thing that is strapped on his back was a black, circular, round-edged shield with a head of a growling griffin. He sheathed his obsidian sword (I hope it's magical) and put on his dark warrior helmet that had a single dark violet wing carved backward. Behind his helmet, I could see his orange and green eyes. "Whoa." I scanned his appearance many times.

"Get your weapons, kid," he ordered.

"My weapons?"

"They're in the weaponry underground." Commander Grayson tossed his head toward the said place.

"Seriously?" I said. Commander didn't argue. Use your magic, he raised an eyebrow. "Oh, right." In a second, I disappeared and went through a passage until I reached the enchanted weaponry. As I arrived at the weaponry, a bearded blacksmith spat his coffee (Almost at me). The weaponry held many outstanding weapons: well-made swords, lances, axes, daggers, bows, crossbows, pistols, rifles, a long staff, and- you get the idea. When I suddenly stood up straight, he was startled. "Wha- what the bloody hell?!" He yelled.

"Sir I need my-" I was about to say my weapons, but I think he got it.

"You mean these?" The bearded blacksmith put the bow and the quiver-filled arrows, and the sword on the front table. And these were all mine.

"How did you know?"

"The commander told me." He pointed to his temple.

I let out a laugh. "Right. Thanks." I grabbed my weapons and head back to where I came from. The bow was clean and carved with swirling designs like fire and my quiver had been painted black and its diameter got wider. In it, I had been provided with many arrows and trick arrows, which amazed me. My sword was shinier and lighter, but I could feel that the blade had gotten sharper and stronger. "It's good to be back." I smiled at the commander after I ushered toward him.

"Ready for your first mission?" He asked.

"You know me by my face, sir," I replied.

He then chuckled. "I don't."

Unlike the other warriors, Commander Grayson owned a giant, glorious black griffin. Its feathers and talons were sharp including its green eyes. The commander mounted on top of it before I reluctantly followed because I was too busy admiring the amazing creature. Its face didn't react at all when I looked at it. Commander brushed his hand on its black feathers, "Kid, you are one lucky young man to meet Eclypto here." He patted the giant griffin's neck. Commander Grayson offered his hand. I imagined myself riding a horse one day, but I had never thought of riding a griffin.

"Listen up, men . . . and women." He turned to the ladies. "The one that is called the Devastrigon has arrived once again. We stop that monster no matter what the cost. But we have to prevent it from reaching the surface. That is our top priority, any questions?" A guy who raised his hand was about to say a word. "Um, sir-"

"All right, we're good. Let's go!!" He barked. All of us yelled a battle cry as we ascend from the castle and fly towards the other side of the mountain near Sonata village. It's starting.

I watched in horror as the silhouette behind the clouds got bigger. Six, volcanic eyes opened with blazing hellish glare. "There it is!" The commander pointed. As it opened its two massive wings with a single swing, the rest of us were thrown away in midair as if a tornado pushed us. We spun around as the dragon growled with a thundering sound, but we all managed to fly straight ahead. "Remember our mission!" As we zoomed in toward the Devastrigon, the Flash warriors unsheathed their magical swords and used their magic and bows and arrows to shoot the monster. The Flash warriors from the Iris valley were shooting the monster with the glowing cannons, some are evacuating the villagers, but they were too many.

The Devastrigon shot sparking meteors coming out of their mouths (Don't ask me how they did that). There were so many as if we're seeing a closer view of the meteor shower. The fireballs shone brightly as the sun, even we squinted from the brightness.

"We must distract that thing before it hits the village," said the commander. I pulled an arrow and glared at it. "I got it." The metal point vibrated as its temperature rises. I shot the middle head's neck. Its deep sonic roar meant pain. So much pain, it was so good to hear. The three heads turned to us I got their attention. "Good work, kid. Now, all we need is to stop it by sending it away from here."

"But where?" I asked, almost yelled at him because of the dragons' roar. "Over there." Commander Grayson pointed to what seemed to be an island with three-pointed mountains across the sea bed.

"Sounds good to me." I nodded. I know where to point my arrows at that Devastrigon. I drew three of them. Again, the points vibrated and turned hot before I released them, striking the three-headed dragon's faces. The monster flew toward us with rage. I didn't know if this plan was fantastic or horrible. Abruptly, the Devastrigon turned his head to the village, ready to fire. No!

Luckily, one of our mounted warriors distracted the monster by slicing it on its neck and face as they dashed with bravery. The Devastrigon whipped its necks like snakes that cause the mounted warriors to be thrown away. But fortunately, the thrown warriors were rescued by other mounted Flash warriors.

"Keep it going, lads, but watch out!" The commander shouted. We both unsheathed our swords. I gathered all my courage once more, protecting those poor people and their lives and from the unreasonable destruction of the three-headed dragon. We flew beneath it as the commander stabbed and sliced the dragon's belly, but its skin was too impenetrable, it only created a shrieking sound.

"What the bloody hell?!" Commander Grayson looked over his sword.

"Allow me." With my will, the blade of my sword shone with orange light. I sensed its energy, so strong, so unusual like this was not the same energy from a fire I had seen before, this one's different. I followed the commander's example. As we flew toward the chest, I stabbed and sliced its armored skin. I watched my blade slid through and cause a crack line. Falling lava drooled from the crack behind us. But my blade couldn't hold the heat for too long. We reached a clearing while I kept blowing at my sword to save it for later. The sky shook as the Devastrigon let out a powerful roar. "Outstanding!" Commander Grayson glanced at me.

"Thanks," I kept on blowing at the blade of my sword. "But my sword cannot handle my magic."

"I guess we have to do long-range tactics." Commander Grayson nodded at me after sheathing his blade. I pulled out my bow then fired my trick arrow as it exploded at the dragon's chest. Then, from his left gauntlet formed what appeared to be a fourteen-inch-long barrel gun and within it came out glowing ammunition which shot at the Devastrigon's faces like cannons.

"Where did you get that?" I asked.

"Long story!" He yelled. Finally, the three-headed dragon followed our direction. "We have to go there, now." He said and I nodded in agreement. I shot more heated arrows to have its attention. The rest of us ascended to the sky as it followed with its two gigantic wings.

"I think it's working," I told the commander. "How are we going to send it far away?"

His team came closer to listen. "That's where you come in in the real party," he said. "We'll lure him to Mt. Hournox, the three-pointed mountains. When we reached there, we'll split up, then you launch yourself."

"Uh . . . what do you mean, launch?" My heart rose a beat.

"You'll fly. Use your magic to teach the hell out of that darn thing." He turned to me. I remembered that. I flew when I fought that monster in Northern Quarté. I know now. "Sir, he's not-" The woman was about to tell commander.

"I can do it," I told him. He nodded. We waited until we reached the island. As he said, the mountains had three points. "Okay, kid. It's now or never!" I carefully stood. I need to focus. I breathed slowly, closed my eyes, and concentrated. I let myself fall off Eclypto. I focused again, letting the gravity carry me toward the ground. Then, with a sudden burst in me, I zoomed with the speed of light. I flew up to show the commander that I'm in the air. "Great, kid!" I could see him smiling at me. "We'll attack the bottom, you'll take care of the rest."

I agreed as he commanded. I made a turn to the left, while they turned to the right. I've never felt this free before. "This. Is. Totally. Amazing!" I spread my arms like wings while letting the wind pass through me. I looked down to see my reflection on the sea before I reached the island. As I looked back, the Devastrigon crushed the side of the mountain. That didn't scare me. I unsheathed my sword again, the blade was still in good condition. "One more time," I said. I soared to the sky before I glared at my sword, transforming it into a burning blade.

I let the three heads blast at me with their best shot. I lost count of how many times I escaped death. Then, I let myself fall and zoom down for me to slice their armored skin. The monster used its tail and claws to kill me. But with my speed and agility, I parried and stabbed and diced its arms and tail. It's working. I can see lava dripping out from the skin.

Under the Devastrigon, The Flash warriors shot arrows and guns, trying their best to cause a little damage to this monster I hate. I lift my sword the flames danced with such energy. I dashed to the dragon's middle face, but I went down and swung my sword upward to its chest. It cracked into a million pieces. The monster roared, causing the island to quake. I tried another heck of a swing, but I was swept out by the Dragon's paws. I couldn't control myself. I crashed on the mountain with full force.

I'm still alive? I felt my body aching. The dirt and dust hovered my surroundings. I coughed before shaking my head to regain my focus. "Ow," I muttered. I looked up to see the Flash warriors struggling with the Devastruction.

Commander and his team dashed to slice its skin. The mounted warriors dodged left and right just to avoid being hit. I grunted and struggled to stand my ground. I slightly bend my knees before I launched myself into the air again. I dashed at full speed with quick slices. From its tail to its back. How insane was that? But the dragon wasn't slowing down as if its energy couldn't be drained. I have to do something before it does something more dangerous, I thought.

I drew my five explosive arrows and point them at the monster's wing on the right. Because it's so huge, I had no problem missing it. I released and watched the arrows as they damaged their gigantic wings. I did the same to the left. With my magic, I blasted the explosions to make it bigger. The damage was so great, the flames even affected the dragon's three heads and body I didn't expect that it would work, but cool!

I heard the commander's voice came inside my head. Great job, kid. You might wanna get out of there. I let the air carry me. The wind became calm but the smoke rushed into my clothes. The Devastrigon fell to the island, crushing the trees, and the river. Its wings completely burned, good. But it's not yet over.

Commander and his team flew closer to me. I sat on the back of the black griffin. "You okay?"

"Y- yeah. Just a small headache." I nodded slowly. A high pitch sound rang in my ear. "What does your team think of me?"

Commander Grayson gritted his teeth. "Well . . . there's still a lot more explaining to do. I told them not to question in this mission so-"

Suddenly, I started to hear screaming, the sound of flames, and things falling apart. "The- the village." I quickly shook my head. "The village, commander we have to go there!"

"What's wrong?" The Commander narrowed his eyes. I heard fire, architecture crashing on the ground. How could this be?

"Something bad is happening," I said.

The good news was the Devastrigon was in a faraway place. There's no need to worry since I destroyed its wing, but something told me that it's not yet over. We will meet and face each other's heads (Not literally) again. The bad news was the monster already returned the favor. The entire village burned like hell, a worse view than in Northern Quarté. "What the hell happened?!" The commander demanded a warrior in a blue uniform as we all landed on the village. "Commander. Only half of the population of the village got out. The entire place went on fire. We couldn't stop it no matter what we use. The flames were too massive."

Commander snarled. "What . . . ?"

The warrior held a few breaths and clarified. "The fire keeps coming back." Commander's face went blank. We've been surrounded by our deaths, well, sort of. I heard a child crying while pounding something, could be a door. "Commander, someone's in trouble." I ran and followed the voice across the burning street.

"Kid, wait!"

"Nope, too late." I followed the voice. I jumped and rolled from the burning obstacles and use my sword to cut wooden planks on my way. A few feet away, I saw a burning house that could kill a person any minute, that's not good. The building had four floors, it's probably the Iris village's hotel. I scanned the building, but the sound turned into an echo. It's like hearing a voice from a faraway tunnel. But the voice got louder as I finally laid my eyes on the third floor. A crying child. The lower ground was burning, but I need to get the child out of there. I flew close to the window of the third floor and peered in. I couldn't see anything but fire.

Somehow, I managed to see her. She was covered in her brown blanket, scared. I need to get her out of there. Thanks to my training, I climbed quickly by using the burned planks to hold and step on. I kicked the window as I let myself in. The room was dancing in flames. I jumped over a small burning bed and saw the girl is tired from trying to knock the door down. She backed away, frightened to see a never-before-seen-fireproof-boy. "Whoa, hey. It's all right. I'm here to help you." I tried to make the girl calm despite the fire. "I'm gonna get you out here, okay?"

"I want my mommy," the girl said in a weak voice. I wiped her cheek.

"Do you know where she is?" I asked.

She nodded and coughed. "She's downstairs," she replied. Oh no, I thought. I have to be fast. The girl was small, so I tucked her in my arms. "Let's go get your mother," I assured. "And I need new pants." I kicked the door. With my magical speed, I searched the whole room, even the burned ones (Don't worry, the girl was safe, I even put my uniform on her for an extra layer of protection), until I found her.

She was trapped by the fallen planks and bookshelves. I could sense her breathing, but not for long. I put the girl down. With just a flash, I sliced the objects above her until they turned into small, powdery debris. I carried the mother above my right shoulder. Is it just me? Or is she not that heavy. I carried the child and I told her to hang on. She wrapped her arms around my neck. She continued coughing. I searched for an exit. In slow motion, I saw the roof top's hole big enough for us.

When the flames gave way, I jumped quickly and high enough for us to reach the outside. I propped the mother on a remaining haystack. We waited for her to wake up. A few minutes later, the mother moaned and coughed as she opened her eyes. The little girl embraced her with such happiness. I smiled at them and realized just how much I miss my family too. The father pushed the villagers aside that gathered around to see his family. They all embraced each other, I wished I could hug them and say "FAMILY GROUP HUG!", but I'm busy being emotional. Too bad I couldn't control flames like these, they don't answer to me.

Many flying pegasi landed and rescued these villagers before the fire completely consumed the village. I watched it burn until there was nothing left but hell. And I need new pants.

A/N:

Don't worry, Xabe, you'll get new pants. I seriously had fun writing this chapter. Full of action and a rescue mission. With the Devastrigon temporarily gone, the Flash warriors may finally have the upper hand to end its destruction once and for all.
