Chapter forty-six: Tornado man
We explained all to him about the Devastrigon rising from the doors of death in Mt. Impyerno again when it was opened, but Mr. Aisle, King Xandier, and company had managed to temporarily seal the door. Since the dragon had awakened again, the lord of the underworld will rise and proclaim as ruler. And only stabbing to its heart could defeat the dragon once and for all. And our hard journey to get him for him to transport us to Mt. Impyerno.
"Triàda Katastrêfo." Mr. Zescield dwelled by the name. "Yes, I think I know the dragon from my collection of textbooks. And the doors of death, that was the last mission Aisle and others had to accomplish."
"We are all also wondering what if the doors of death would never shut," Claes said.
"Well, it goes like this." Mr. Zescield grabbed a piece of paper and a pen from his closet near the stairs. He came back and followed him in his living room where we all sat on his benches. "When the doors open, the dragon will come out, and so does the spirits, which will bring the unbalance to the laws of nature." He drew an opened gate and a three-headed dragon flying out of it, including images of ghosts. "The dragon is the horrifying manifestation of death, chaos, and destruction."
"Will stabbing it in the heart still works?" I asked.
"Of course it will, but so much harder," Mr. Zescield said. "And if I were you, I'll also close the doors of death, because what I had said earlier, the spirits who were meant to be dead were not meant to come out on the surface of our world. Otherwise, everything will be in chaos. If the dragon destroys the world, whomever the lord from the underworld may also deal with serious plans."
He a figure before shading the entire body. It appeared to be an unknown man covered in darkness with black wings. "The lord from the underworld has been thirsty for vengeance while remaining silent for so long. Since the awakening of you-know-what, well . . . you already know what comes next."
Even though it's just a drawing of a dark-winged figure, I could feel the chills running down my spine. "The lord from the underworld," said Claes. "The second fallen. After the first one being banished from the heavenly kingdom to conquer all creation and became the devil, this one decided to destroy everything."
"You got that right." Sean nodded after his moment of silence. "By destroying all creation, the second fallen wants to recreate in his image."
"Wait, so the lord from the underworld was an angel?" Lenard looked at them.
"Yes." Claes nodded. "After the devil's defeat, the second fallen learned his lesson and decided to take the battle elsewhere- here on earth to oppose both heaven and hell."
"Of course things didn't go so well either." Sean began to gesture his hands. "Little did he know that for the first time that angels, demons, and heroes of creation had joined together to stop him and his army from the shadows. For punishment, he got wiped out into the void and never been discussed ever again. Until today, that is."
"And so the lord from the underworld created something that was left of his power- something that we all know of." Mr. Zescield pointed at the Devastrigon drawing.
"So if closing the doors is an option, the problem is we also don't know where the key is," Chloriette said.
"Yes, that is true." Mr. Zescield nodded. "But there is also another way to close it according to what I had been researching." We watched as he went inside a room before putting a large book on the table. " I had found an ancient text written in the abandoned ruins that were carved in a wall and says this:'To shut the gate of the hallow, one must sacrifice to make it swallow. For the heart will end the sorrow.'"
"'One must sacrifice,'" Lenard said. "Only one?"
"So by stabbing the Devastrigon's heart will also end it all," I said.
Mr. Zescield went silent for a moment, a few seconds later, he spoke, "Oh, I just realized that just now."
"Wait a minute, where did you get all of this information?" Sean asked, we all looked at Mr. Zescield.
"I researched, speculate, and analyzed ancient textbooks weird looking fellow. The conclusions are very dark," he replied.
"Oh, that pretty makes sense." Sean shrugged.
"Anyway, will you send us there?" I asked.
"Oh jeez, things will get messy." Mr. Zescield scratched his chin. "And I'm getting a lot of pressure."
"Hey mister, there are a lot of things that we need to clean up," Sean said.
"And things will get messier if the dragon cannot be stopped," Chloriette added.
Mr. Zescield lifted his hands."Okay, okay, okay. You can stop saying words after another. Of course, I'll do it. Besides, I don't want spirits lurking in my house all day, especially in the bathroom."
His basement was dark but not creepy looking as if he was not letting himself seeing a haunted basement for years. Suddenly, we were starting to hear voices from every corner of the basement. "What was that?" Lenard's eyes widened.
"Ghosts," Claes guessed.
"Something has to do with the doors of death primarily. Come, let us be quick." As Mr. Zescield snapped his fingers, the whole room was lit by lanterns from every corner to reveal a white circle on the ground. Watching him, Mr. Zescield drew symbols of the circle before urging us to get inside of it. "This is it," he said. "If you're about to meet the dragon one last time, the destruction is inevitable. Be careful. Including the rest of you." The six of us were standing around the circle, forming a perfect group formation.
Outside of it, Mr. Zescield shut his eyes then recited a spell but in a whisper. The circle sparked with energy and once it was released, it was sucking us in by being surrounded by the blue powerful tornado.
"I may not involve with those people from your world, but I'll give you the best of luck." Mr. Zescield shouted over the roar from the wind. This was it, all of us . . . well . . . not entirely. We're going to end this, especially when it comes to a problem where a ginormous three-headed dragon was about to destroy the world and only a recruit of the Flash warriors who could slay it, which turned out to be a Dragonslayer.
The power of the blue wind fainted. The strong force had stopped when the ground shook, followed by a banging sound. We all looked at each other, shocked. "What just happened?" Sean said.
"Something's not right." Claes squinted his eyes. Suddenly, the ground shook again as if a giant was stomping on top of us.
"Oh no," Mr. Zescield muttered.
"What now?" Mr. Zescield glared and we followed him outside before seeing a black tornado thundering its way here. And then I thought it had found us. He had found us. Or they had found us.
"I'm coming for you," said the hollow voice with the lightning strike. I saw a glimpse of his eyes, the eyes that were the same in my dream.
"How the-" Claes ducked and so did we when lighting zapped everywhere, almost at us. "Come here and surrender or die!" Boomed the black tornado.
"Do you know that guy?" Sean bolted backward.
"No." Claes drew his black sword. "But that has to be a Shadow knight."
"He prevented your travel to Mt. Impyerno," Mr. Zescield said. "Do you have any idea they are following you?"
I shook my head, "No, we don't." But I did. Avalar's warning from the Shallow maze before we had been transported here. Why I had forgotten this? Why? "We can't let that guy stop us," Chloriette said. From the skies, hooded men with silver masks and armor appeared, crushing the ground beneath them. Stood before we were an army of Shadow knights. "Okaaay . . . I mean we can't let them stop us."
"We'll distract his knights while we deal with the tornado man." Claes unsheathed his sword.
"How are we suppose to do that?" Sean asked him. Thinking of ideas, Lenard snapped his finger,
"I got it," he exclaimed. "I have a plan captain, but it's crazy."
"Okay then warriors, if you're all still alive, I'll be at my house." Mr. Zescield rushed inside his home.
"Well, that's great." Victor tossed his arms as we gazed at the door.
We all listened to Lenard's plan. It was indeed crazy, but I liked it. "Dragonslayer," the tornado man from afar called. "Come here and face us."
"I will." We did as according to plan. Claes' illusion magic was so powerful, Mr. Zescield's home disappeared before the fields started to shift. A vast area of the fields stretched across the sky. It bend as if it was forming a sloped shape literally like the shape of the earth. His illusion affected us and our enemies. "Get them!" The tornado man ordered. Despite the illusion and the different shapes of the fields in every direction, they charged.
We may be recruits, but our powers served as our major advantage. The tornado man launched lightning that burned the fields. With my claymore, I could deflect it toward the knights and zapped them. The Shadow knights focused on another problem. They struggled not to get one punched and one kicked by Victor. Thanks to Claes, he messed up their minds when they thought Victor was about to punch or kick them.
They were fooled. However, two Shadow knights could hit Victor by using their swords but only scratching his uniform. One Shadow knight, who was wearing a black robe, confronted Claes, and under his left sleeve was a hidden blade and started attacking him. Despite Claes' defense, the robed knight was fast enough, almost impaling the captain.
From the other field that touched the sky, Sean was running with his wand and jumped toward the four Shadow knights who were searching for him. "Get ready to make your mind blown," he said. Before using their weapons, the Shadow knights' forehead glow before they were dragged away, bumping into another shifting surface.
"What is going on?" The tornado man wondered.
"Let's just say your knights tripped over a field," I said before firing my magic at him. But he made a hole just so my magic passed through the tornado man.
"Do you think that'll stop us, slayer?" The tornado man formed huge arms swirling with black air.
"Uh-oh," I muttered. As he extended his arms, attempting to grab me, I flew fast and avoided getting caught. I dashed every direction, even passing through the knights who were blown away by his arms and even cutting it into bits, but his extended arms kept coming. Unfortunately, the whirlwinds surrounded me before squeezed my body like a snake.
"You cannot defeat what is already awakened." His eyes were like the explosions of the universe as his black figure got closer to me, floating behind the tornado. "And the doors of death can only be locked by a powerful force such as the key. Do you think you're strong enough to face your destiny?"
"Well, a smith told me that stabbing the heart of the dragon can defeat it and also the solution of closing the doors of death," I grunted. Despite it was made out of gas, his windy arms were solid as bricks.
"Oh . . . ," he just said after a short pause.
I struggled to be released, so I attempted to burst when the flames around me started circling my body. "Arrrgghh!!!" He screamed before letting me go. I circled him faster than light until this black tornado man turned into a burning wind person. He tried to shoot lightning at me, but I'm much faster. I continued circling him. He was burning and been spinning around by my force.
"Now!" I heard Lenard's signal. I stopped circling then flew toward my friend. Chloriette started to sing but in an ancient word. Despite my misunderstanding of the language, her voice made everything so smooth to my ears. Every one of us regrouped. Claes turned his illusion off. Everything was back to normal and Mr. Zescield's home was safe. The tornado man was still spinning, causing more wind. Creating another black tornado, he rose.
The Shadow knights, who were lifeless on the fields, had been sucked inside the tornado. Suddenly, the sky vacuumed the black tornado, but he was resisting. "No! I must complete my mission!" He kept resting. I raised my claymore as it shone brightly before a strong beam of light pushed the tornado man, including the knights that were sucked in, towards the sky. And they were gone.
"How . . . how are you all not dead?" Mr. Zescield made a face which he didn't seem glad to see us. "And why on earth are my fields on fire?" We ignored what he said.
"Your home is safe. We're all safe. Can you send us to Mt. Impyerno now?" I asked.
"Are you sure that tornado yelling person is gone?" He asked.
"Yes," Claes simply replied.
"And promise me not to bother me again after this whole big-Dragonslayer problem?"
"Yes," I said.
He clasped his hands. "Great. All of you, let us now proceed." And we're back in the basement again. Mr. Zescield closed his eyes and his hands started glowing white by the time the circle transported us into the island where things will come to an end.
