Chapter Six

Early the next morning, Mae tiptoed into Ariella's bedroom getting footage of Ariella snoozing.

"This is Ariella's room," she whispered so she wouldn't wake her. She softly padded across the carpet and hovered the camera above Ariella's head. Or what looked like Ariella's head. It was hard to tell with her face hidden beneath a wild mess of untamed curls. "And this is Ariella sleeping like a baby."

Ariella snorted and shifted under her comforter. Then one eye popped open. She shrieked and pulled a pillow over her head. "Mae!"

"What?" Mae said, still filming. "People are going to love your bunny pj's."

Ariella peeked from underneath her pillow. "No, they're not because they're never going to see them." She got up, grabbed Mae by the shoulders, and steered her out the door. "I'll be down in a second."

Mae continued to record even as Ariella closed the door in her face. "And that was Ariella being rude."

Half an hour later, Mae sat in the living room watching all of the great footage she captured so far and thinking of cool ways to edit them. Did she want a clean and professional look, or did she want to go all out with fancy fonts and crazy filters? She wondered if Justine would appreciate auto-tune.

"Is your camera ready?" Ariella called downstairs.

Mae held her camera in position and pressed record. "All set."

Ariella floated down the stairs one platinum stiletto at a time in a glamorous, trailing, red dress. Her strawberry brown hair cascaded in elegant waves over one shoulder, her lips were bright red, and a silver boa draped her elbows like a feathery python.

Despite her poised entrance, she teetered when she got to the last step. "Easy, girls," she said as she steadied herself. Once her feet were firmly planted on the floor, she struck a pose, hands on her hips. "I'm ready for my close up-Wait." She switched to her left side to show off her giant purse. What could she possibly carry in that thing? A St. Bernard? "Now, I'm ready for my close up."

Mae was stunned speechless. Who was this 1930's Hollywood look-a-like and what did she do with her best friend?
