Rivendell and Heritage
Ariana's POV
We went to a courtyard and Lord Elrond appeared on horse back with the elf warriors that had saved us from the orc pack. He invites us to dinner and I thanked him for saving us. A couple of elf ladies escorted me to a private bathhouse. They gave me a dress and allowed me to bath in private. Once I was clean, I brushed my hair.
I then left to go find the others. When I come across a statue of a woman. For some reason she looked familiar. I look at the name only to see it in Elvish. "You look a lot like her, but have your father's hair colour" a guy says.
I turn to see Lord Elrond. "Who?" I ask him.
"Gilraen" he says gesturing to her statue.
"Why would I look like her?" I ask him.
"Because she was your birth mother" he states. I look at him shocked. "You were only two years old when you were last here. Your mother brought you here after your father Arathorn died. She was not well, couldn't raise you alone. Asked me to help, but I could not. I already had three children of my own to raise and a foster son. She wouldn't you to grow up in a peaceful village.
The most peaceful place was the Shire. So I took you there and the Baggins' adopted you. They sent letters until they died. But your mother died a couple of years ago" he explains.
"Is this why Gandalf asked me on this journey?" I ask him.
"We agreed it was time you knew your true heritage. You are the Princess of Gondor. What you do with this information is up to you" he tells me. "But I'd like you to have this, it was your mother's" he states handing me a silver necklace with a moonstone on it.
"Thank you for telling me the truth. I have a lot to think about" I state.
"Dinner is in an hour in the top courtyard by the falls. I hope to see you there" he says and leaves me to my thoughts. I look at the necklace tracing the designs of is with my finger. Deep in thought.
"There you are, I've been looking everywhere for you!" Bilbo exclaims as he joins me. "This place is amazing" he tells me. "Are you ok?" he asks me concerned.
"I just found out my birth parents are dead. I mean I always suspected it, but now I know" I tell him.
"I'm so sorry" he tells me. "Is this your mother?" he asks looking at the statue.
"Yes, and this was her necklace" I say showing him the necklace. He takes it and puts it around my neck. Clasping it in place. I pulled my hair out from under the chain and look at the pendant. "Thank you brother" I say grateful.
"Anytime, she was beautiful. I see where you get your looks from" he states looking at the statue. "What's her name?" he asks me curious.
"Gilraen" I answers.
"Thanks Gilraen, if it weren't for you I would of never or meet Ariana or had such an amazing little sister" he tells the statue. I smile giving him a hug.
"I love you brother" I tell him.
"I love you too dear sister" he tells me. "Now lets go or we'll be late for dinner" he states.
"Ok, but lets keep this between us" I tell him. He nods his head and we feed for the courtyard. He sits by Balin as I am escorted to an empty seat next to Gandalf. Who had been showing Elrond his sword from the troll cave.
"And this is Glamdring. The Foe-hammer, sword of the King of Gondolin. These swords were made for the Goblin wars of the First Age" he states handing it back to Gandalf.
"Can you tell me anything about mine?" I ask him handing it to him.
"It was made in the Second age. By man and elf" he states examining it. "Very rare, I thought all were destroyed. This a truly remarkable find" he tells me.
"Then maybe it should remain here. I don't even know how to wield a sword yet" I tell him.
"No, you found it for a reason. You were destined to have this sword. I see you doing great things with it. May it save you well Ariana" he says handing it back to me.
"I promise to take good care of it" I assure him.
"I'm sure you will" he says with a smile. We start to ate our dinner. Suddenly Bofur stands on the table and begins to sing.
"There's an inn
Inn, there's an inn, there's a merry old inn,
Beneath an old grey hill;
And there they brew a beer so brown
That the Man in the Moon himself came down
One night to drink his fill.
The ostler has a tipsy cat
That plays a five-stringed fiddle;
And up and down he saws his bow
Now squeaking high,
Now purring low.
Now sawing in the middle
So the cat on the fiddle played a hey-diddle-diddle
A jig that would wake the dead;
He squeaked and he sawed and he quickened the tune,
While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:
It's after three! he said" he finished singing. The dwarves throwing their food around laughing merrily. I giggle and go back to my meal. Wishing we could stay this happy for the rest of the journey. But I know that's just a dream. We are on a dangerous quest. But it's nice to have a night off after dealing with rain, trolls and orcs.
