Claude's POV

*FLASHBACK*

I'd never been to a funeral but could tell it wasn't such a nice event. But nonetheless I still had to attend.

It was for Raven's parents after all.

I had to attend.

'Fix your shirt,' my mother nagged at me, trying to tuck in the black shirt I was wearing. 'You look a mess.'

I try to get away. 'I'm not a child!' I say, untucking it then tucking it in myself.

'Yes you are, you're only nine,' she tries to brush my hair instead.

'I'm tall for my age!' I yell back as I run off inside the building.

Raven was there wearing all black and sitting on a chair by herself.

She looked different. Not like the Raven that would hit me back if I teased her. She looked broken.

I didn't like it.

I walked up to her but surprisingly, she didn't get up and move when I did. She just sat there, staring down at her lap and not even noticing that I was standing right next to her.

'Simmons!' I say, giving her shoulder a poke. She didn't respond or even look up at me.

'Hey! Listen to me when I talk to you!'

Still no response. It was beginning to annoy me.

'Hey!' I hold her by the shoulders and shout in her face.

She looked up at me, her eyes sunken and teary like she had been crying the whole time.

'They're gone,' she mumbled, looking me straight in the eye. 'They left me...'

She starts to cry.

My arms automatically wrapped around her to give her a comforting hug. I'd never hugged her before so it felt weird. But a good kind of weird.

'They left...' I hear her whimper again. I could tell she was talking about her parents.

'Listen Simmons,' I began, detaching myself from her 'It doesn't matter if your parents are dead because you have my mom and dad and you...have me...' My words trail off because I knew they wouldn't help her.

Raven gradually stopoed crying.

'Claude,' she whispers softly.

'Yes?' I look at her face and see her tears have dried a little.

'Promise me that you'll never leave me,'

I freeze. Was she saying this for real? Didn't she hate me?

'I promise,' I reply back. 'I won't ever leave you.'

*FLASHBACK END*

'Come on!' I shout to her as she nearly tripped over a fallen branch.

'I'm walking as fast as I can!' Raven shouts back, kicking the branch away.

'Well, walk faster!' I yell 'Run if you have to!'

'No! I'm not running!'

'Fine,' I roll my eyes and carry on walking infront of her 'Fatty,'

'What was that?!' She snapped.

'Nothing,' I replied casually as I avoided stepping in a muddy puddle.

We continue to walk through the forest. It must have rained last night because the ground was moist.

'Why do we have to do this?' Raven complained 'why can't we just stay at the cabin?!'

'I thought it would be fun if we explored the-'

'Well its not fun!' She interrupted 'Let's go back!'

'Stop whining,' I reply 'Its better than just sitting around doing nothing!'

'I want to sit around and do nothing!'

'Go back then!' I yell, abruptly turning around so she bumped into me. I pushed her away.

'Come with me!' She whined.

'Go by yourself,'

'No!' She pulled me by the arm 'Come with me!'

She leaned her head on my shoulder.

'Please,' she whispered.

'Fine,' I sighed 'Let's go back,'

We turned around and started walking towards the cabin, with Raven at the front this time. On her face I could see a satisfied grin.

Since when did I let her control me?

Within a few minutes, we'd reached the cabin again. I relit some of the candles. Even if it was daytime outside, it was still dark in the cabin.

'I'm surprised we haven't been caught yet,' Raven suddenly began.

'They won't,' I reply 'I'm too smart for them,'

'We're too smart for them,' she corrected me.

I raise an eyebrow 'So we're a team then?'

'I guess so,' she said a bit hesitantly.

'We're a team,' she repeated again more confidentiality.

I sat down on the floor, but at the same time made sure I maintained an appropriate distance from Raven. Ever since yesterday, she's been acting differently around me.

I didn't seem to mind though. Its not that I like this new Raven or anything; to be honest I think I prefer the old one.

The one I fell in love with.
