Chapter 49
'Wake up,' I yell into Raven's ear but she's still sound asleep.
She's so goddamn annoying.
'Wake up!' I shout louder.
She finally struggles to open her eyes. 'What day is it?' She yawns.
Honestly, I've lost track.
Her eyes lit up 'Its January the First!' She sequels.
'Calm down,' I say, restraining her from doing any weird happy dances that she might possibally do.
'We have to go again,' I tell her.
'Again?' She moaned.
I nodded.
'I'm tired of running,' she groans, getting out of the bed, giving me a chance to fix it.
'Do you want to rest in jail then?' I reply.
She shook her head a no and retrieved some clothes from her backpack.
'Don't look,' she tells me firmly, beginning to remove her pajamas.
I obediantly turn around and wait until she's finished.
Throughout this time, I think her trust in me has grown if she's comfortable enough to change her clothes in front of me. Well, without me looking, anyway.
A few years ago, you wouldn't even be able to get us alone in the same room, even.
'Alright, I'm done,' she says, giving me the permission to turn back around.
She's wearing the furry black sweater and jeans I had packed for her and was tying her long black hair in a ponytail.
I decided to wear my black hoodie for no specific reason. (A/N sureeee.....).
We said our goodbyes to Josie and her family, including an exceptionally long hug from Amber before leaving their house.
'So where are we going now?' Raven began questioning me again.
'Where do you want to go?' I ask her back.
She shrugged her shoulders 'Let's flee from this country,'
'We can't,' I sigh 'Also we have no money left.'
She jolts her head towards me 'WHAT?! How are we going to buy food?!'
'You're worried about food?' I laugh.
'Where are we going to stay now?' She panicked.
'Calm down,' I say, slowly placing my arm around her shoulder. She flinched a bit, but then relaxed and didn't break free.
'I'm scared,' she whispered vulnerably.
'We won't die or get caught, okay?' I assure her.
She nods, shuffling a little closer to me.
We walked for hours finally reaching a busy town. We tried to blend in and act as unsuspitious as possible.
'College starts tomorrow,' Raven finally says, breaking the silence between us.
'So?' I reply 'Its not like we can go back,'
'Do you think everyone at college knows what I did,' she whispers.
I nod 'Most likely everyone in that town knows by now,'
'Great,' she whispers sarcastically.
We walk some more until we see a huge tree filled forest.
'We can hide here for a couple of days,' I tell her, finding a big enough hole in the barbed wire fence to crawl through.
'Here?' She replies, shocked following me through the fence.
'There's bound to be some sort of abandoned cabin of some sort here somewhere.'
I begin to walk through the forest.
'Claude,' she says, shaking my arm 'I'm hungry,'
'We'll eat when we find a cabin.'
'What if we don't find a cabin,'
'We'll sleep out here,'
'What if bears come and attack us?'
'I'll fight the bears,' I sigh
'You? Fight a bear?' She raises an eyebrow.
'You don't think I can?' I reply.
'Nope,' she shakes her head 'I don't believe you.'
'I can,'
'You can't,'
'Can,'
'Can't,'
I found a small tree and kicked it so it broke and fell over with a thud.
'Can,' I say.
'That's not a bear though, its a tree,' she replys.
'You're getting on my nerves,' I push her a bit as I say it.
Its been several hours and we still couldn't find a cabin.
'I don't think there are any cabins here,' Raven groaned.
'There has to be!'
'Oh look a cabin!' She squealed, pointing at a small home made of logs entirely.
'How did you find it?!'
'I'm just more awesome than you,' she sniggers back, walking towards the cabin.
The windows looked like they had been shattered and the outside of the cabin looked moldy.
I carefully opened the door and entered.
It was dark inside and it smelt of damp wood.
'I don't like it here,' Raven exclaimed.
'Oh I'm sorry that this temporary shelter is not convenient enough for you, your majesty,' I scoffed sarcastically.
There was no light switch and maybe not even any electricity at all.
I clicked my fingers and they were on fire, giving me a dim light to scope the surrounding.
There were a lot of cobwebs.
'How are you doing that?' Raven asked, staring at the flames on my finger.
I rolled my eyes 'You can do it too, you know,'
'No I can't,'
'But you did it to your laptop,'
'How do you know about that?'
'When I was packing your backpack, I saw a burnt up laptop on your bed,'
'How did you know I did it?'
'I just know,'
I found a couple of candles on a little wooden table that I nearly tripped over. With my finger, I lit them all.
The light in the room grew a little brighter.
I took off my backpack and sat on the floor, exhausted from all the walking and searching.
Raven sat down too.
'Now what?' She asked.
'Now we can rest,' I sighed.
