The man had already stumbled away.

Claude looked at me and held out a hand.

I took it and tried to get up.

We walked to our flat in silence.

When we arrived, I didn't go to my apartment. Instead, Claude led me to his.

I'd never been inside Claude's apartment. It was surprisingly neat and clean. Not like mine, which had clothes and books and other rubbish scattered around the floor.

He led me to the bathroom. I sat on the counter top while he got out the first aid kit.

He started to bandage my scraped knee.

We were still in silence.

After he finished my knee, he moved on to the other one which was equally bruised.

'I'm sorry about what I said last night.' He finally said

'I'm sorry I punched you,' I too apologized.

He moved on to my elbow.

'You must have had a pretty bad fall.' He said.

I was silent. Tears began to roll down my eyes.

Claude wiped them with his finger. 'You're safe now,' he whispered.

I carried on crying, suddenly finding myself wrapped in Claude's arms. They were surprisingly comforting.

'Stop crying, you're making my shirt wet!' He complained.

But he didn't let go.

He looked down at me and saw the necklace around my neck.

He went red. 'You're still wearing it?'

I went red too 'I-I forgot to take it off.' I said holding it.

'Don't,' he said pulling my arms away 'you look nice in it,'

He smiled.

I found myself smiling too.

We just stood there and stared at each others' stupid grins before Claude finally said 'You better go to your apartment now'

I nodded,leaving.

I couldn't believe it.

Claude was actually nice to me.

I went directly to bed, trying to forget everything that happened.

Except the part with Claude.

I smiled as I clutched the charm on my necklace.

Then I let go of it.

'No,' I thought to myself 'No its not like that. Tomorrow will be normal again. He'll start being mean to me again. Nothing will change.'
