Chapter 29

Tina and (Y/n) lead the group down an unhealthy back alley covered in bins, crates, and discarded objects. (Y/n) located a set of steps leading  to a basement apartment and motioned them down. The steps seem to have less to a dead end: the doorway has been bricked up. Instead, a poster of a young upper class woman wearing an evening dress, making her first appearance in a fashionable society, coyly smiling and gazing at herself in a mirror, covers the end of the walkway. Tina, Queenie, and (Y/n) stand in front of the poster as the sisters turn to each other and, in unison, raise their wands. As they do so, their work clothes transform into stunning flapper party dresses.

Tina looks up at Newt, somewhat embarrassed by her new attire. Queenie gazes at Jacob, a cheeky smile on her face. The sisters look at (Y/n), who hasn't transformed her work clothes. "C'mon, (Y/n). We used to do this thousands of times whenever the three of us would go out. Don't be shy now because theirs boys with us." Queenie encouraged with a smile as Tina smiled encouragingly at (Y/n) as the Auror huffed a soft laugh with a shake of her head and slight smile.

"Fine." She said while raising her wand, her work attire transforms into a flapper party dress as well, a head piece forming out of thin air and resting comfortably on her head.

"Oh you look amazing~!" Queenie said with a grin, (Y/n) blushing faintly out of embarrassment since she hasn't worn a flapper dress in forever. Newt and Jacob studied the women in awe as the magizoologist shifted a bit awkwardly with a faint pink hue on his cheeks. Tina stepped towards the poster and slowly raises her hand. As she did so, the eyes of the young woman move upward, following her every move. Tina then knocked slowly on the door four times. Newt, sensed the need for a change, hastily magics himself a small bow tie as Jacob watched with slight jealousy. A hatch opened: the painted eyes of the young woman whipped back to reveal the gaze of a suspicious guard.

A seedy, low-ceilinged speakeasy for the down-and-out of New York's magical community. Every witch and wizard criminal in New York is there, their wanted posters hung proudly on the walls. There's a glimpse of a wanted poster that said, GELLERT GRINDELWALD: WANTED FOR NO-MAJ SLAYINGS IN EUROPE. A glamorous goblin jazz singer croons on a stage full of goblin musicians, smoky images wafting from her wand to illustrate her lyrics. All is dingy and shabby, an atmosphere of menacing fun

"The cried fat tears of pearl when the dragon snapped up his best girl, and the Billywig forgot to twirl when his sweetheart left him cold, and the unicorn done lost his horn, and the Hippogriff feels all forlorn, 'cause their lady loves have upped and gawn, or that's what it been told-"

Jacob stood at the seemingly unattended to bar, waiting to be served, "How do I get a drink in this joint?" He asked as a thin bottle of brown liquid zoomed towards him out of nowhere. He caught it with a stunned expression. The head of a house elf peers up at him from behind the bar.

"What? Ain't you ever seen a house elf before?" The creature asked with a brow arched.

"Oh, no, yeah, no, of course I have... I love house elves." Jacob said, trying to play it cool and nonchalant as he pulled the cork out of the bottle, "My uncle's a house elf." He said as the house elf raises himself up, leaning on the bar to stare at Jacob as he was not fooled. Queenie walked over, looking downcast as she ordered.

"Six shots of gigglewater and a lobe blaster, please." The house elf reluctantly shuffled off to fulfill her request. The two look at each other as Jacob reached out and took one of the gigglewater shots, "Are all No-Majs like you?"

Jacob looks at Queenie and attempts to be serious and almost seductive, "No, I'm the only one like me." He said while knocking back the shot and maintaining eye contact with Queenie. He then suddenly emits a harsh, high-pitched giggle, making Queenie laugh sweetly at his surprised face. (Y/n) stood across the room so that she has an eye on everybody. From where she stood, she could see Tina and Newt sitting awkwardly together as they waited for Gnarlak and she could also see Queenie and Jacob chat. (Y/n) sighs softly while leaning against a wooden pillar while she kept watch, feeling and looking rather glum and lonely as she watched her best friends talk away with their possible love interests.

"What's a pretty little lady such as yourself doin' in a place like this?" Asked a deep and rough voice. (Y/n) looked over to see a tall man with a muscular build, eyes like the ocean with a series of green and blues, and a head of thick, brown hair. His facial hair giving him more of a huskier impression as a small scar is seen near his chin where the facial couldn't grow. The man certainly was handsome and probably the same age as Percival. There was a slight Texan drawl to his voice as he wore a black bandana around his neck with a white button up, black vest and slacks, and black worn out gamblers hat. A gun belt hung around his waist with a wand holester.

"I didn't know cowboy wizards existed." (Y/n) responded with a soft scoff and crossing her arms over her chest. This causes the man to huff a soft chuckle  as he leaned against the pillar as well, thumbs hooked on her belt as he looked at her, "You do know the Wild West died out almost thirty or so years ago, right?"

"We only just met for a minute and yer out here insultin' me already." He said as she rolled her eyes.

"Listen, I'm engaged, okay? So you can stop trying." She said as the man leaned over a bit to study her left hand before smirking at her.

"I don't see a ring." He pointed out with a smug smile as she blushed faintly out of embarrassment and shot him a glare.

"Listen here, cowboy, I am happily engaged to a man that I love dearly. I'm not looking for anyone and I don't plan to. So, please, stop trying, mister." She huffed out of irritation as the man raised his hand up in surrender, a smile on his face.

"Alright alright keep yer hair on." He said with a chuckle, "For a lady to say that she's happily engaged to a man and not planning to see other people while she's in a place full of convicts and wanted criminals by herself, lookin' all pretty and sad like she is... It says a lot." He said. (Y/n) grimaces softly, not liking how she knew that he was right. She currently wasn't happy because of her crumbling relationship with Percival and she did look all downtrodden not too long ago. The man smirked and chuckled as he sees how she grimaced because they both knew he made a good point. "Listen, despite how I look and act, I'm a bad man. I've done a lot of terrible things. I just happened to be passin' through town with a couple of my acquaintances to lay low for awhile. And, if I'm bein' honest, ma'am, yer the prettiest woman I've seen so far since arriving here." The man scratches his cheek, looking rather timid now as he smiled sheepishly at her. His words made her cold expression soften a bit as it reminded her of what Percival had said to her once, "And if you're really 'happily' engaged, then alright. I'll back off." He said before leaning down a bit so his face is inches from hers, "But you and I both know that ain't true. Deep down, yer hurtin'. Trust me, I know what that's like. But if you ever feel like you need someone to help you feel happy again, then don't be afraid to see me sometime." (Y/n) looked at him in slight surprise as he smiled a bit at her, she bit her cheek and looked to the side, trying to push back the light blush on her cheeks

"As if I'd do that." She murmured as the man snickered.

"Playin' hard to get. I see." He said as he nodded, "Well, I should be headin' out. May I know yer name before I go? I'll tell ya mine." The man gave her a charming smile with a twinkle of his eye.

"... (Y/n). (Y/n) (L/n)." She said after a moment of silence. He says her name and nods with a smile.

"Huh, alright, Miss (L/n)." He offered her his hand, "Arthur Morgan." (Y/n) looked at him with a slight squint of her eye, looking at the wall of wanted posters she sees his. She scoffed through her nose and shakes his hand, his hand was big as he held her smaller hand in a firm but gentle grip.

"Keep in mind that I remember names well, Mr. Morgan." She said as he smirked and took off his hat to lean down and place a soft kiss on the the back of her hand.

"And so do I, it's part of the criminal background." He said with a crooked smile and wink as he stood straight and placed his hat back on his head, "Well, I suppose I'll see you around, Miss (L/n)."

"And I pray we don't meet again, mister." She said as Arthur chuckled.

"Don't bet on it. Now, you have yourself a nice, evenin'." He said with a slight tilt of his hat before disapparating. (Y/n) replays the interaction in her her head and scoffs with a roll of her eyes, subconsciously smiling to herself as Tina and Queenie looked at her. They had watched the whole thing with a brow arched along with Newt and Jacob. Soon Gnarlak walked in and Queenie discreetly signaled Tina and (Y/n).

     "He's here." Queenie whispered.

A/n: Okay so, if any of you could guess where Arthur is from and/or who he is then congrats. I couldn't think of any other character at the moment to write that should have met the reader and he just came to mind. Sorry if it was bad but I really enjoyed writing his dialogue and stuff. Should we see more of him later? That's up to you guys! Also, I hope you guys also enjoyed my huge splurge of new chapters. I got nothing better to do with my life and kind of wrote them out and since I have the screenplay, it helps me a lot when writing out certain parts of the movie. So yeah! Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter!
