Chapter 2

Sitting in the room, I wait for him patiently.

My eyes fall on a 5 Star chocolate bar beside the stopwatch. Taking it, I unwrap it and take a bite.

Before you pass on comments as I snitched it. Let me tell you my emotional story. I am an orphan since the age of 10. I see cash very much but take very little as a cashier and I'm very hungry.

Not emotional enough?

I told you already, I'm kinda novice in the game of emotions. With that said, I think it's enough. I have already waited for more than two minutes now.

I walk out of the room with half chocolate bar in my hand. I see Mr. Ralph standing near the reception while Karen is hidden under the desk probably looking for something.

I take the remaining bar around my mouth and take it all in one bite. Karen rises from under the desk with a file. They both turn towards me. I gulp down the bar.

Hiding the wrapper in my hand behind my back I look at them as a person who hasn't stolen a thing in her entire life.

He walks past me and sits inside the room. Disposing of the wrapper in my jeans back pocket I enter the room.

"You certainly have some skills Denver. But this is a very dangerous job," he says trying to scare me.

But hey, do I ever get scared?

I do.

But I'm not now. Being a detective has been my dream for 20 years and 9 months if you count the preborn period too.

"I'm ready to face any danger," I say with conviction.

And as expected he replies, "Okay you got the job."

He turns his gaze towards the stopwatch. But before he could notice that something is missing from around it. I ask him, "How much would I be paid?"

He turns towards me. I take a sigh of relief that gets hindered in between when he says, "You won't be."

"This is your first case. So only reimbursements would be given. Travelling, food, etc," he explains further. "Is that acceptable to you?"

Ah! Why can't dream job and dream salary be friends for once?

With a little bit of savings, I've made in last month I think I can survive for a week. Cause hey it won't take me more than that to crack this case...right?

Honestly, I don't know. But I'm not letting my dream shatter just like that. "I accept the job."

"Take the case file from, Kayden." He signals towards the door. "Good luck, Ms. Denver."

"Thanks." I get out and walk to the receptionist. "Ms. Kayden can I-"

"Here," she interrupts me by putting the file on the desk.

I take it and walk towards the exit flipping pages for a glance. I see the profile of a man named Danny Brown that I've to investigate. Is he really brown? I chuckle at my thought.

But my laugh and breathing stop when I see the man's profession. I turn towards Kayden. "Why do I have to do this case on my first?"

"Because everyone else is busy," she says without a blink.

Still not able to kickstart my nose for breathing I open my mouth for help.

"Do you want the job or not?" she asks.

Considering it my only chance to shine after being rejected by many for unknown reasons. With all energy left in me I push words out of my mouth, "I'll take it."

She nods. I get control of my breathing and congratulate myself.

Great Job, Olivia, you've got the case of a serial killer!!
