Seo Hyun arrived at the hospital, her eyes widening as she noticed the reporters doing a live newscast at this early hour. Huh, what's going on here? She shook her head, brushing off the uneasiness sitting on her shoulders as she entered the lobby. Police officers swarmed the reception, and the turbulent chattering of people filled the air. One guy caught Seo Hyun's eye in particular, his back was turned to her, but she recognized him anytime. "Oppa?" The man in the police uniform turned around from his conversation. "What's going on?" she questioned. Seo Jin approached his younger sister, worry etched on every crevasse of his face. He held her hands in his trembling ones, the silence triggering the growing anxiety that wavered over Seo Hyun.
"I'm so sorry dongsaeng." Before Seo Hyun could comprehend his words, the sharp clanging of metal rang in her ears, and she looked down to see silver handcuffs hugging her wrists.
"You're being arrested for the murder of Mr. Ahn Myung Pil."
Seo Hyun opened her mouth, but no sound came out. The sheer revelation was enough to stun her. She jerked back as if to escape, but Seo Jin held her hands firmly. "You can't be serious, what are you--"
"You have the right to remain silent," he cut her off, before putting his arm around her to steer her out of there. "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." His voice was empty of any affection, only raw and emotionless. As he drove her out of the hospital, numerous reporters surrounded them like paparazzi. Flashes of bright light obscured Seo Hyun's view, blocking out all the chaotic questions overriding each other. She didn't have a clue as to what was happening and felt as light as a feather.
Everything happened like a blur, one that swirled out of existence. Seo Hyun left like she couldn't breathe, that the anxiety was building up and compelled her to scream, to make sense of anything. She was caught in a trance, one where she felt like she would just faint at any given moment. Seo Jin guided her to his car, opening the backdoor and gently escorting her inside. Seo Hyun looked up at him, betrayal stinging her like a sharp pain soaring through her senses. Before he closed the door, he finally finished the Miranda Warning.
"You have the right to an attorney."

Ji Woo crossed over the neon yellow police tape, entering the hospital room that seemed to have a darker edge after knowing the malicious crime that took place. "Well then," he paused, clapping his hands together. The room was plainly mundane, the walls were a cream color, and it reeked of strong disinfectant compared to the hallways. The only glimpses of beauty you could search for was the large window at the end of the room that gave a view of the world below.
Ji Woo strapped on a pair of disposable gloves and walked around the bed, stopping by the bedside table. He picked up a couple of medicine bottles, looking through each name. Baclofen? Sounds like a disease. He chucked the bottles inside ziplock bags and searched the room for anything else that could serve as potential evidence. Finally, after finishing a thorough check, he left the room, eager to get away from the eerie place.
"Mr. Park." Dr. Kim approached the crime investigator, holding a thick report. His face was void of any emotion, if anything else, it held serious undertones. "Here are the results of the autopsy. His cause of death came from an excessive overdose of drugs and triggered a respiratory failure." Ji Woo nodded slowly, scanning the report in his hands until a word caught his eye.
"Baclofen? What is this?" he inquired, remembering the distinct drug name from inspecting the medicine bottles at the crime scene.
"It's what Mr. Ahn is taking for his muscle spasms. He has multiple sclerosis; however, when you overdose on this it can reach dangerously high toxic levels," Dr. Kim replied, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. "I'm his neurologist and prescribed him that, however, he was under Dr. Min's care since he underwent surgery on his broken wrist."
"Wait? Who? Dr. Min?"
"Yes, Dr. Min Seo Hyun, the alleged suspect who caused his death," Dr. Kim sighed, the stress pulsing in his veins after uttering her name.
"She was the last person to have physical contact with Mr. Ahn correct? She was the doctor in the CCTV who administered him the medication?" Ji Woo, who was still caught off guard with the discovery of the suspect's identity, continued with his interrogation to Dr. Kim, shooting question after question to make sense of this turmoil.
"Yes, that was around 10 am I believe, and it took some time for the toxic levels to manifest hence, he died in his sleep." Ji Woo's thoughts were scrambled all over his head, and his mind felt like a balloon that was going to explode with all the confusion. Snapping back to focus, he politely thanked Dr. Kim.
"Thank you for your time, I'll have to call you back to stand as a witness at the trial once we set a date." As he turned to leave, Dr. Kim hollered after him.
"Wait! There's one more thing you need to know, I think it's important. I don't get this but..." Dr. Kim hesitated, unsure of himself. Ji Woo raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue. "After she administered the Baclofen, it should take at most 12 hours for the toxicity levels to end him, but his estimated time of death is well over that time." The new key information piqued Ji Woo's interest as he recorded the conversation.
"Perhaps it's time I pay a visit to our alleged murderer," Ji Woo mused, eager to find answers to this mysterious case.

Sitting in the corner of the jail cell, Seo Hyun tried to straighten her thoughts. She played with the dead skin chipping at the end of her fingertips, feeling defeated. Is this how my life ends? Being labeled as a criminal? "Well, well, well..." Ji Woo dragged his words, crossing his arms over his shoulder as he neared the doctor sitting alone in the cell. She peered up at him, his frame towering over her like a skyscraper.
"Are you here to laugh at me? Well go ahead, here's your chance," she jeered, averting her eyes away from him.
"Well, not necessarily, I'm here to interrogate you, sweetheart. No lawyer?"
"No, I'm saving money," she pointed out, a grimace curled on the ends of her lips. Ji Woo stared at her in disbelief, his eyebrows scrunched up at her bizarre reasoning. She's a surgeon for crying out loud, yet she's still thrifty at a time like this?
"Seriously? You're being accused here, and your priority is money? Once you're behind bars, money will be the least of worries." Seo Hyun stood up, consumed in a fit of rage that burned her. His sly comments were only pushing her to explode like a bomb minutes away from blowing up.
"I am not a criminal!" she bellowed, stomping her foot on the ground, the police monitoring her by the side flinched at her sudden move, but Ji Woo stood still with an eyebrow raised. "Damn you all! Do you even know what it's like to be completely humiliated! All my life I've been harassed for circumstances I can't fucking control. I've devoted my fucking entirety to becoming a surgeon, and now my name is being tainted like red paint on paper. Do you know how ruined I am? Do you know how shitty it is to be an outcast and be accused of something you didn't do? I'm sick of it!" Seo Hyun's chest heaved as she spilled all her words, like a glass shattering with waves of water splashing everywhere. She didn't care about how vulgar her words were. She didn't care whether it could affect her case or not. She was finally unraveling the wraps that contained all her misery, and she loved it.
Ji Woo simply stood there, listening intently to what she had to say. His eyes were full of interest, and he couldn't help but feel more curious about the doctor standing before him, well, standing behind bars. "I believe you," he calmly responded after quite some time, careful to not let the police officer overhear him. "Now, if you want to see another day out of this cell you better cooperate." He turned to the officer standing idly. "Sir, please offer this poor girl a cold drink, she needs to calm down before we bring her in for interrogation." The sympathy was stirring in Ji Woo's chest as he took one last look at the doctor, before turning around to leave. He never felt bias for any of the suspects, but somehow, she managed to make him wish that he was a lawyer for once.
After some time, Ji Woo was informed that the suspect was ready in the detention room. He got up and entered the room. His eyes laid on Seo Hyun sitting across a white table, her wrists bound together with handcuffs. The hazy light that poured in from the small window did little to make the room less dim but made the dust particles dancing in the air visible.
Ji Woo took a seat across Seo Hyun, who looked worn out and tired, the stress of the whole situation already affecting her much more than she wanted to. Ji Woo slipped his phone out from his pocket and opened a video. "Look here." He flipped the phone so Seo Hyun could see, and she watched the contact between herself and Mr. Ahn. "After reviewing the CCTV cameras, it's clear that you were the last one to offer medication to Mr. Ahn. What happened between the two of you? Why does he look scared and confused here?"
"He has multiple sclerosis, look, his broken hand is having spasms, and his symptoms are all over the place. What else did you want me to do? Leave him like that and not offer any help? I'm a doctor, that's what I'm--"
"That's enough. I'm asking what happened between the two of you. Mr. Ahn is certainly talking in this video; what did he say?" Ji Woo cut her off, trying to find any key details that would clear the case.
"He was just spewing nonsense, he asked me to believe his crazy stories. I told him I will if he took his medicine." Ji Woo nodded slowly, his eyes catching a glint of light that crept into the room from the window. "Listen," Seo Hyun paused, bending forward and shifting her hands on the table. "Mr. Ahn lost around 10kg, so I gave him a lower dosage of Baclofen that fits his current weight. Check the CCTV closely, if my memory didn't fail me I gave him the right dosage with just two pills knowing it would be toxic to his organs if I gave him more," she asserted, holding up two fingers with her cuffed hand.
"After reviewing the footage, you were the last one to offer him medication. Mr. Ahn did not take any painkillers or any other form of drugs after your interaction. Can you explain that?" Seo Hyun lifted an eyebrow, her dead stare challenging Ji Woo across the table.
"Lest you forget, I am a doctor. I am willing to bet my life on the fact his estimated time of death was nowhere near 11 pm to midnight. The only explanation that I can offer you is..." She inhaled a deep breath, chills running down her back as she contemplated her next statement. I'm innocent; only lies can cover up more lies. In the ultimate end of everything, the truth always prevails.
"I've simply been framed."
After Ji Woo finished conducting the intense interrogation, he stood up from his chair, the legs screeching like nails raking a chalkboard. "Thank you for your cooperation, please anticipate the prosecutorial interrogation later once your trial is scheduled." Seo Hyun said nothing in response, her eyes drawn to the window in the distance. She yearned for the freedom behind the dusty glass, where her skin could feel the warmth of the sun, and the taste of the outside world. She had been detained for several hours, but it felt like several days. Hell, even being stuck within the plain walls of the hospital is better than this. "Now, if you'll excuse me." Ji Woo bowed out of respect, before leaving the room. He circled his shoulders around, trying to shake off the stiffness of his bones.
"Has the whole thing been recorded?" he questioned the police officer whose eyes were glued on the monitor that displayed the room where Seo Hyun sat. He simply nodded in response, eyes still lingering on the young doctor on his monitor. This really isn't a place for a young woman like her. "Hey," Ji Woo called out, effectively catching the guard's attention.
"I've recorded it, so? It will be submitted once the prosecutor comes around to look at it first." Ji Woo frowned and was about to head out before he came to a halt.
"Who's the prosecutor in charge of this case?"
"Prosecutor Yang," the man blurted out, a grimace creased on his lips as it was clear he was annoyed with the crime investigator.
Ji Woo felt his breathing hitch for a moment and tried to mask the anxiety in his expression. Will she even have a chance of being free?

Ji Woo packed up his belongings in his office, his mind clouded with his thoughts. I've submitted the evidence to the court after the forensic analysis, fingerprints match Dr. Min, all evidence is just pointing straight at her. "Mr. Park!" Ji Woo was pulled back to reality when a high-pitched voice called out his name. He spun around with his coat in hand and saw Ms. Shin standing there with a coy smile pressed on her plump red lips. "Is something wrong? I've been calling you many times Mr. Park, not that I mind saying your name over and over again," she giggled, barely muttering the last part. Ji Woo offered a slightly strained smile. Usually, he enjoyed the attention from his female co-workers, but he felt too worn out with work to even bother.
"It's nothing, but thank you for your concern," he responded, patting her head. Other female employees were passing by his office intentionally, failing to be discrete from Ji Woo's sharp peripheral.
"I got you this," Ms. Shin squeaked, eagerly grabbing Ji Woo's hand and placing a can of energy drink in his hold. "You've been working so much this week, I thought this could help you," she added, twirling a curled hair in between her scarlet red manicured fingertips.
"How sweet Ms. Shin, I appreciate it," Ji Woo mused, playing along with her flirtatious antics. "I'll drink this once I head back home, thank you." He flashed her a charming smile, before walking out of his office. As he exited the law firm, a car pulled over to him. Rolling down the tinted window, Eun Ho smirked at Ji Woo.
"Get in Mr. Park," Eunho cooed, imitating any girl that called out Ji Woo's name. He rolled his eyes in response, before hopping inside the black vehicle. "You've been working hard on this case, what about mine?"
Ji Woo scoffed, looking out the window with each neon sign and billboard that flashed by his vision. "What? A week is enough to solve your case? As if we even have a solid suspect."
"Well, you've never been this worked up about any case before. I sense there is something between you and that doctor. You acted like a complete snob when we first saw her at the hospital. Oh wait, correction, when I first saw her at the hospital." Huh, can't believe he still remembered that. It already felt so long ago. "You sleep with her?"
Ji Woo whacked Eun Ho's head, not caring whether he was driving or not. "Ow! Fine, I'll shut up." The drive was silent, except for the radio playing away in the background. Ji Woo couldn't help but feel bothered as if something was tugging at his mind. He couldn't help but feel that something was misplaced, like a missing piece to the picture. After visiting the hospital room multiple times, he swore he memorized every piece of furniture that sat in the place like he could paint it in his vision every time he shut his eyes. The evidence just screams her name, but why do I still feel like I'm missing something? I can't be biased, should I accept that she's a criminal? But it just doesn't add up, what are her motives? the man's untimely death... I can't piece this together.
"Ji Woo." He turned his head to Eun Ho, whose eyes were glued to whatever was in front of them. It was only then that Ji Woo realized they had stopped. "Whose that?" Ji Woo turned his head to the front, and he felt an icy chill circling him from the sight. With just the dim lights lining the street, it was impossible to decipher his looks. The silence was choking the two, caught in the shock of seeing an unknown man just stare at the gate for hell knows how long. As if the ambiguous guy could finally feel the piercing stare of the two men boring right through him, he turned away to leave, walking away as he ever so slightly looked over his shoulder.
