Kings Cross and the Stopped Train
King Cross was very busy, after all it was the 1st September and the train leaves at 11am. But she saw him, straight away, her curly haired Irishman. "William" She muttered under her breath as she walked over to him. A smile inched across his face as soon as he noticed her. It was like a scene in a film, how they ran to each other and hug. The two of them fit together like puzzle pieces, like them hugging is just meant to be, that they are one. Although quickly the hug broke apart and a sliver of annoyance appeared on Junes' face "What?"
"You know my number." And with that Williams face turned blank. You could see him mouth the word shit as he awkwardly looked away from her face. "You forgot it, didn't you?" There was a cross of laughter and irritation in her smile as she looked up at her boyfriend who had a his 'I love you and I'm an idiot' toothy smile. She just shook her head, grabbed his hand and walked over to Sirenna, who she'd just see walk around a corner.
"June?" The concern that rose on her face was vibrant. "What the actual fuck are you doing here." She said approaching her best friend in an interrogating matter. William came forward and explained how he had told June to come, that he had a plan to get her to his Aunt's, but first they had to get her on the train and hide her just incase there are Death Eaters onboard, or even students who might know June is muggle-born and report it.
They had no issue getting on, nor could they see any known Death Eaters waiting onboard; but just incase, they found a compartment, sitting June next to the window and placing the Disillusionment charm on her. Whilst it's not perfect, they figured if she's hidden behind them it might be easier. "If the train stops we will get you up there" William said, pointing at the case racks above. His leg shook as he spoke. June placed her hand on it in attempt to comfort him. It didn't really work but he appreciated it.
Only seconds later did the compartment door come swinging open. "Where have you guys been? And you, Sirenna, you abandoned me at the entrance." Max said slumping down onto the seat beside his cousin. "Anyways, where's June?" He said finally calming down over his feeling of betrayal. Both William and Sirenna's eyes rolled over to where the invisible June was. "Oh yeah I forgot."
"How in the bloody hell? Eloise is in France, and you forgot what's going on."
"I was hammered last night give me a break." Sirenna was visibility pissed of at her cousin.
"You out with Charlie again?"
"Who's Charlie?" June interrupted as there was a new named dropped, one that neither William or June could think of.
"A muggleborn, from Gryffindor, they left last year though, Charlie Moore." Max explained with a small smug look on his face, Sirenna covered her face as she could see what William was about to say. "Fuck off, you guys smashed?" Max looked away smugly, then looked back at his best friend who was smiling back at him, "Charlie is well hung so, it was brilliant. But he's on the run now, staying in a town down in Sussex. Selsey, I think. They are going to be staying on the Caravan site in hopes to blend in with the muggles." June reached out her hand to Max, he could see the waviness of where she supposably was and he reached out too. Max smiled over at their invisible friend. "It will be okay." June said, she was always good at picking up some underline thoughts of her friends, she is very observant since she doesn't often talk much. She never really did, all because every word she says she has to analyze in fear. "Thanks June." In that moment she knew Max was pretending that the sex he had had with Charlie covered most of his thoughts on the guy, a way to ignore the overhanging questions of safety for the boy he loves. Max tends to repress a lot of his feelings until they eventually come out in fits of rage, or in a sort of art form, but June is normally good at making him feel comfortable in being a bit more vulnerable.
The rest of the ride was sweet, the group didn't want to discuss the fact that for most of the year June would be in hiding, that all of them were in some sort of danger. It's all just a question of how bad it could get. So instead they gossiped. The summer was relatively safe, like calm before the storm, but they all knew what's coming ahead.
So there was just talk of trips to London, or Brighton, conversations of celebrity news and then Sirenna and June discussed the book they both read over the summer - 'Bridget Jones's Diary'.
Then the trained stopped.
William instantly got up, ready to pick up June and hide her, to protect her. She complied.
It was all done so quickly, they didn't even have the time to process any of what had just happened. But they all sat down and carried on talking as usual. When Max started to hear footsteps he throw his hoodie over the disillusioned muggle-born as an extra step, extra cover. William even slid to the window and rested his legs on the seats. Then boom. The doors slid open. Right there was a Death Eater, they knew the main focus would be Harry Potter, as he should be joining the students for his final year, but they didn't know for sure that they weren't also hunting down the known muggle-borns. All of them did question if they were going too far, that maybe she could have sat beside them like a normal student and nobody would have even questioned it. It's difficult times.
Eventually they left and June got back down, shakily holding onto William. Still invisible but you could hear the tiny whimpers as she attempted to disguise her tears. They were all shaken up, but nothing compared to her. They couldn't even imagine what it must feel like having to hide and hold your breath because if you don't you have no idea what your fate might be, but it won't be good. Knowing that one slip up and she could have died. That moment held her life on hold.
There was nothing but heavy breathing, tears and an entire room of panic and a true realization of what awaited them at the end of the tracks, of what this year, and possibly longer would be.
None of them knew what was happening elsewhere on the train, whether some muggle-borns that they'd noticed on the train had been hurt or taken or something. Either way, none of them wanted to know the answer. Ignorance is bliss, after all.
The rest of the ride was done in silence. The whole mood was ruined, they really couldn't just be students anymore. They had to be adults, they have to survive in a world that would be against them, whether that's due to their blood, or to their agreement on muggles and muggle-borns. All just still children.
