Chapter 23

I blinked several times to wake myself up and thankfully found myself safe and sound in my room. I don’t know where else I would be but I do remember drinking a lot. I should probably shower before going to school like a zombie but why is it still so dark? I checked my clock and it read 6:50am why would I wake up this early?

“Dear God what’s wrong with me?” I’m on my side so I tried to roll on my back but a heavy arm is draped over my bare waist. My breathing hitched as I felt someone’s warm breath sent tingles down my neck. The bond helped me realise it’s only Drake but that didn’t make me feel any better. I’m only in my underwear and I’m braless! When did he even get in?

I felt myself heat up and try to pull the covers up but his heavy arm is holding down on my waist. “Seriously?” I hissed.

“What is it now?” He grumbled still in a sleepy state. He then ran tingling kisses along my bare arm and exposed shoulder almost making me go into a daze. But I feel almost sick at the same time like I’m about to throw up. So that’s why they teach kids not to drink…

“Why are you here?”

“You never called me or texted I got worried.”

“Okay well I recall wearing a bra.” I winced and massaged my temple.

“You kept whining in your sleep about it being uncomfortable.” He ran his hand down from my waist under the blanket and caressed my thigh. I pulled the covers up to my chest and shook his hand off. “Don’t hide yourself from me.” He purred in my ear. I bit my lip trying to control all my sparks igniting in me but it’s pointless he already can feel me getting nervous. “They’re beautiful.”

I blushed. “You saw them!” I sat up pulling all the blankets to cocoon myself. I noticed Drake’s naked torso and ogled at his toned pale body. He’s only wearing his black HUGO BOSS briefs and I shamefully looked away. “Why are you half naked?”

“It’s only fair.” I can feel him smirking. I gave him a sideways glance to check if I’m right but that was a big mistake because I just ended up staring at his body. He chuckled and suddenly he ripped the covers off me and I yelped hugging my body to hide all my goods. “You’re allowed to ogle at my body so I’m allowed to ogle at yours.” He knelt over me staring at my arms since they’re crossed over my chest. He smiled before pressing a kiss on my collarbone.

I’m too stunned to move and I’m anxious to see what he’ll do next.

He trailed kisses down to my cleavage and hesitated. “Someone’s up.” He whispered. He sped into my closet and I snuggled under the blankets shutting my eyes as the door creaked open.

I opened my eyes slightly to my mother standing in the doorway and closing the door. Does she do that every morning?

Drake -at lightning speed- sat on the bed pulling his jeans on and when I sat up he cupped my cheek staring at me adoringly.

“Are we going to talk about it?” I asked and wondered if drunken Alicia remembered to bring a bucket for hangover Alicia. Turns out drunk Alicia is a selfish cow.

“I want to forget about it.”

“You know we can’t.”
“Please not today or at least not now.” He begged. But I want to talk about it I need to talk about it. About the hooded man and about everyone who wants to kill me and him.

“He recognized me as my mother.” I added worriedly. Drake looked at me with a face full of sympathy and his hand trailed down to the bite mark on my neck. His electrifying touch seemed to sober me up and I figured maybe he’s using his power to make me feel better.

“This wouldn’t be happening if I just left you alone.”

“Don’t you dare think about leaving me.”

“I couldn’t even if I tried.” He leaned forward and kissed me our tongues entangling with each other. “You’re too important.” He whispered and I smiled at that.

“You’re too perfect.” Apart from the constant attacks but hey every girl needs a bit of drama in her life. “Now remind me again why I’m not beating you for stripping me.”

“You were already practically naked. I saved you from discomfort.” He smirked and I glared at him. “Besides it’s punishment for never calling me. I was worried sick.”

What kind of punishment is that? But I apologised anyway. “I forgot… I stayed back really late I’m sorry for worrying you.”

“I called you why didn’t you pick up?” I hugged the blankets around my curvy frame and went through my dancing bag under my bed and found it wet where the phone was. I forgot I damaged my phone…

“I accidentally froze it bloody hell.” I scowled tossing the phone back in. “Are you leaving to get ready?”

“I brought extra clothes.” He smiled down at me then pecked my nose.

“I’ll shower and then we can… talk about what happened.”

“Or we can, not talk about it.”

“We are not avoiding it.”

“We don’t have to talk about it right away either.”

“Typical men not wanting to face their problems.”

I showered and quickly served Drake and I breakfast –or he sat there and watched me eat since he was full of someone- before we left early and arrived at school.

“We’re really early I hope you realise.” I yawned unbuckling my seatbelt.

“I know.” He suddenly got out of the car and opened the door for me before I could reach for the handle. “Come on snowflake.”

“Snow flake?” I accepted his hand. He slammed the door shut then picked me up bridal style. “What are you doing?” He winked at me. That’s assuring. He ran up to the school building and we stood in front of the wall. “Yes such a pretty wall… You have a good eye Prince Valdymar. Can you put me down now?” He bent his knees and we lifted up into the air and I gasped in surprise throwing my arms around Drake’s neck. He landed with a thump on the tiled roof and set me down at the very top before sitting down next to me. “Drake…”

He cupped my chin. “Shush and look.” He pointed out towards the town and behind that the forest and behind that the snowy mountains. The way the sun is hitting it makes me wish I had my paints and canvas.

“Oh Drake.”

“I thought you’d like it.”

“I would love to paint this.” I gazed over at Drake who had his phone and he took a picture of the view.

“Whenever you want to paint it I have the photo.”

“The view is nice but do you see that mountain?” I pointed towards it trying to find that special place where I sit.

“The only mountain in view yes I see it.” I ignored that.

“On the top cliff is where I sit. It is the best view in probably the entire universe. You can see everything like you’re literally on top of the world. It’s amazing.”

“You’ve climbed up that?”

“Hiked.” I corrected. “No hard work and climbing required if you’re going in the right direction.”

“So much for impressing you.” He muttered surprising me.

“You have. You’ve managed to create something good come from this shitty school. Anyway why are you trying to impress me when I already love you?” I felt his fingers play with the ends of my hair. The effect of the gentle tug made me close my eyes.

“Do you know how adorable you look in your little red beanie?”

~ I just gagged ~

“Shut up.” I said playfully to the both of them.

“Don’t be embarrassed snowflake.”

“Where did that nickname come from?”

“I think it suits… How was work by the way?”

“Oh…”

~ That was out of nowhere ~

She’s right. But I think it’s nice that he’s curious so I shrugged. “It was good. I still can’t believe she just gave me the job.”

“You probably had a good résumé.”

“If you call ‘never worked a day in my life’ a good résumé I guess I can’t argue.”

~ This is getting boring ~

“No one said you had to join us.”

“Is she here?”

~ No shit Sherlock ~

“I thought you weren’t on speaking terms.” He said unfazed by her voice.

“That was until she helped get my drunken butt home.”

~ May I explain? ~

“I’ve been waiting for you to.” Drake suddenly stood up. “What are you doing?”

“I’ll leave you two alone for a bit.”

~ No, no I think even the prince should listen in case he tries this again ~

“Oh good I was going to eavesdrop anyway.”

~ Alicia the attack wasn’t to harm you ~

“Could’ve fooled me.”

~ Yes there was a chance you going to be harmed but that was not the purpose. My brother foolishly wanted to test if you had any hidden power in you. ~

“So he attempted to kill her to find out?” Drake snapped enraged.

~ No! He hoped that the power would break out at the sense of danger. I had no idea of it but…~

“But you sensed something would happen.”

~ Yes I did and I’m sorry I couldn’t stop it ~ I relaxed myself into Drake and he wrapped his arms securely around me.

“I’m sorry for not listening to your explanation before.”

~ Why would you? ~

“You have been known to be stubborn.” Drake said pressing a kiss on my temple.

“Quite true.”

~ I shall leave you two now oh and Alicia, Staci is fuming so tread carefully when you’re near ~

“I’ll coat her flames with my snow.”

~ (O) ~

“Alicia.”

“Say one wrong word to me Chris and I will make sure it’s your last.” I warned not looking up from my Macbeth notes.

“What’s your problem?” I sighed still not gazing up.

Do you ever get that feeling that when you’re so fed up with a person you just want to turn into an octopus because one slap just won’t suffice?

“Hello I asked you a question?”

There’s no point in talking with this guy I mean you can’t reason with stupid.

“Ali-cat?” I bit my lip to hold back my internal rage. “Mm I always loved it when you bit your lip like that.” My foot started tapping anxiously under the table until our teacher finally entered the room.

“Chris please take a seat. And yes Sebastian he’s usually like this in my class.” I snapped my head up when I heard his name.

“Oh my God.” I breathed. It’s Sebastian! Wearing glasses? His eyes captured mine and he grinned sweetly to seem like a gentle soul. But it’s more like the smile if a snake. What is he doing here? Don’t tell me he’s joined the school to? Why is he wearing that daggy grey suit?

“Is this your first time teaching Sebastian?” Our Teacher Ms Eden asked him flipping her brown hair back as she wore a strange smile. I gazed around the room and saw every girl gawk at him or pull down their tops and fix their hair. I’m so disappointed in the female population right now.

He said almost in panic but I know it’s fake. “Oh I do hope you don’t expect me to conduct a lesson.”

“You’re just starting? No worries we don’t let student teachers get thrown in the deep end of the pool. You can just help out some students if you would like.” Her shirt’s top buttons are undone! I’m looking at my teacher’s cleavage.

“I would love to.”

“Oh my God.” I couldn’t help but whisper again.

“What’s with the shocked face Alicia?” Chris whispered in my ear and I smacked my palm on his face to shove it away. “What’s with your face period?” I snapped in a low whisper earning a chuckle from non-other than the prince of darkness himself.

“If you’re still mad about the whole tripping thing…”

“Oh please you used to do that all the time so I would fall into your lap.”

“I’m not going to apologise for expressing my feelings.”

“I wouldn’t care if you did.” The whole time we were bickering my gaze never broke from Sebastian and I realised it might look suspicious to others so I gazed back down at my notes.

What is he doing here? Is this just to spite his brother? Is going to try and kill me again or seek revenge for laughing at his allergy to garlic? Or maybe he’s trying to hook up with some young girls in my school.

Sebastian was suddenly in a chair next to my desk a little far from the exit not that I can outrun him. “Hello wifey. I’m a student teacher here now…” Thank you for stating the obvious.

“Yeah may I ask why?”

“I have an interest in expanding the minds of the young.”

“I’m insulted. I mean how stupid do you think I am?”

He scowled and pushed his fake glasses up. “My brother and sister are here so I want to be part of the fun now what are we looking at?”

“My chest apparently.” I muttered zipping my jacket up.

He grinned showing off his pearly white teeth. No fangs all good for now. “When you have them pushed up like that don’t be offended if a humble man takes a quick glance.”

“You’re not a humble man so I am offended.”

“Oh Alicia I bet if you weren’t a victim of the Queen’s wrath and had spent more time in our world we would’ve become the best of friends.”

“I think even then I would have disliked you. A lot. Wait what did you say?”

“Why is the hot student teacher talking to her?” We both heard someone voice in the background. My eyes shut and I held back a grimace while I felt Sebastian’s smile somehow broaden.

“Go entertain some other students I have work to do.”

“Don’t you want to know what those girls are saying about you?”

“I’ll find out later anyway.”

“More the reason to know now… Are you cheating on my brother?” He asked out of nowhere and I glanced around the room wondering which girl would lie about that.

“No. Actually I’m cheating on Cadbury chocolate with your brother.”

“Hey Ali-cat.” Chris called out and we both turned our heads to look at him. “When you’re done flirting with the teacher why don’t you and I…” Sebastian suddenly stood up and waltzed to Chris’s desk. He picked up Chris’s book and read over his notes angering him. “Hey what the fu~”

“No swearing in my class!”

Sebastian suddenly chuckled flipping through the pages. What is he doing? “If you spent less time drawing Alicia’s chest and did more of your work maybe girls wouldn’t be so repelled by you.” My mouth fell agape and Chris tensed in his seat looking hectically around the room while the class snickered. The tops of his ears are going red matching my heated cheeks. Did Sebastian have to say my name? I glared up at him as he dumped the book back on his desk then walked back to the front of the classroom.

“Good to know you’re so inspired by my teaching Chris.” Our English teacher shook her head with a displeased look. “Are you alright Alicia?”

“I feel violated and I am wondering how Chris knows what my breasts look like?” The class erupted in gasps and laughter.

“Okay everyone calm down let’s finally get this class started and Chris I’m going to be checking your book by the end of this class.” That doesn’t make me feel any better.

~ (O) ~

I calmly walked down the school hallway but then Staci and two very tall girls stood in my way with their arms crossed like her body guards. “What’s your problem Ali?” Staci asked.

Arnica who appeared out of nowhere attacked with such sass that my eyes widened in surprise. “Nothing Staci what’s your problem?”

“Oh the loser thinks she’s tough that’s so adorable.” The cheerleader I believe is Lindsey mocked in a sly baby voice. She sounds just as bad or maybe worse than Paris Hilton. If she were fair-haired it would work but she’s a bogus brunette.

“Aw the cheerleader thinks her pimple is invisible. That’s soooo cute.” I clapped my hands together and smiled innocently while she slapped her hand to her forehead. “Anyway we best be going we have math homework that’s more interesting than this conversation.”

“Oh yes you’re right unfortunately algebra just can’t wait.” We tried to walk around the girls but the cheerleaders blocked our passage. This is ridiculous. These girls don’t even know what’s happening in fact they never took notice of Staci and when they did take notice they hated her.

“Don’t think you can get out of this.” The girl in front of me sneered. Oh a terrifying cheerleader… I’m shaking. “We cheerleaders have a special way of handling sluts.”

“Yeah you make them cheerleaders.” I replied mimicking her stance and crossing my arms over.

“Ali-What is going on?” Scarlet called out walking towards us and she had Tatiana by her side. The two stared worriedly between the groups and I gave them a warm smile.

“You’re Drake’s sister right?” Lindsey asked.

The other cheerleader in front of me asked. “Why are you blonde?”

“What kind of question is that?” Scarlet asked me as I chortled.

“Have you ever watched Mean Girls?” Arnica called out.

Tatiana laughed pointing at Arnica. “That’s exactly what I was thinking.”

“I’m flaxen because I have more fun?” She shrugged unsure. “Wait are these girls giving you trouble Angel?” She turned to me.

“Who’s Angel?” Lindsey asked.

Scarlet scoffed. “Oh I know you girls you’re the silly little ones with pom poms right? The ones bad mouthing my future sister in-law?”

“Your future sister in-law and her bitch of a friend are trying to steal Chris from Staci.”

“I’m pretty sure it was Chris making the moves on us.” I said darkly.

“Yeah sure.”

“I can’t believe how ungrateful you are. You have Drake and you want Chris to?” The cheerleader in front of me frowned down at me as if I was the one that blew the whole football team. FYI she was the one that did that…

“Ungrateful?” I repeated unbelievably. This is really happening? This isn’t a joke? I’m being picked on by cheerleaders for doing something they do.

Lindsey shouted at Arnica. “And you! I thought geeks were supposed to be sweet?”

“We don’t have to explain ourselves to you but really you should learn your facts before you attack a person with false information.” I said calmly then looked down at Staci who has been quiet this entire time. “I know you never liked me from the start and since you don’t, let’s not pretend to care about each other’s lives. I’ll leave you alone if you will leave me alone. You know very well that Arnica and I have no interest whatsoever with Chris and you’re crazy to believe that he has any interest in you.” Harsh but true she needs to hear it.

“I know nothing other than your obsession with all the boys in the school.” She snapped.

I sighed. “I see.”

“This is ridiculous. My best friend is not a reflection of you girls so leave her alone or you will be dealing with me.” Scarlet’s eyes began to darken.

“Scarlet they’re not even worth it.”

“Then let’s go already.” She linked her arm with mine. “I don’t argue with peasants.”

“Peasants?”

Lindsey stormed right up to me and unfortunately she’s a little taller than me. “You’re so caught in his web Alicia. Everyone knows he plays around with his girls.”

“You know nothing about him stop pretending that all guys that aren’t dating you are superficial players.”

“You’re so cute. You’ve known him for what? Ten minutes and you think you’re in love?”

“Run along peasant.”

We walked past them and went to the cafeteria claiming a table in the middle of the room.

Tom walked up to us hesitantly. “Safe for us men?”

Scarlet flipped her hair back with a flirtatious smile as she pulled out a seat for him right next to her. “For you of course.” Tatiana shared a look with me and we snickered. Arnica didn’t look amused.

“Where’s Drake?” I asked sensing him in the room.

“You handled that brilliantly.” He whispered in my ear sending soothing waves to help me relax.

“Why didn’t you defend my honour?” I asked him.

Tatiana called out. “Yeah Dra!” I snickered as he glared down at me.

“You told her my nickname?”

“She did Dra.” Tatiana mocked. “Anyway I better get back to my friends before they start a riot see you later girls. See ya Dra.” I kept laughing until I saw Sebastian watching us from the teacher’s table.

“Can we go back up onto the roof?” I asked Drake.

~ (O) ~

“Your brother is here.” I stated. If he’s surprised I can’t tell.

“Where is he?”

“He was teaching me English well helping the teacher teach English.”

“What?”

“He’s a student at our school!”

“What?”

“What part of that does not make sense to you?”

“No it’s just… My brother a teacher? All he did was skip out on school I don’t understand.”

“Don’t expect me to.” I snuggled in his arms and he lifted me up to set me down between his legs. My head fell back into the crook of his neck and he raised one of my hands to his mouth giving it a quick peck. “Do you think we’re moving too fast?” I blurted without thinking.

“Where did that come from?”

“Sorry.”

“Are you uncomfortable with anything? Have I done something?”

“No. You know I’ve never been in a relationship before and I don’t know if… never mind.”

“Ali.”

“Dra.” I replied flatly.

He snickered. “Alicia I’m not asking you to marry me and bear my children.”

“I said never mind.”

“But I do love you. We’ve known each other for years even if you don’t really remember me there was some reason you went with me to that ball.”

“I’ll admit I was smitten by your charm.”

“How slow do you want me to go?”

“I don’t want you to go slow. Just pretend I didn’t say anything.” I turned over and kissed his lips.

“I hope your persuasive tactics are different for other people.”

“Keep hoping and maybe one day…” He groaned. I laughed resting back into his arms and found strange that I can’t feel his heart beating from his chest. I would have been disturbed if I didn’t know he was already technically dead. “It’s odd.”

“What is?”

“To think you’re vampire.”

“Seriously?”

“Well I’ve never properly thought about it, you being dead and yet alive at the same time.”

“You make me sound like a zombie.”

“Well there’s so much I need to know Drake. Like with the bear your children comment is possible for a human and vampire to create… families?”

He chuckled. “I can prove it right now.”

I asked ignoring his sarcasm. “Why do some vampires have a special ability while others don’t?”

“That’s never really been identified. Back then the high class used to assume that they were the only ones whom possessed great powers.”

“That’s so typical. Why is Sebastian bothering us?” And why are you so cool with it?

“I thought you and he were cool when he saved you.” Oh right I forgot that I never told him of Sebastian threatening to kill me. I feel like I should tell him now but I bit my lip. “He’s always bothered me as brothers do. Except he…”

His feelings through the bond concerned me. “Why do you feel guilty?”

“He hates me because I took his place.”

“Don’t feel guilty about it. He obviously must have done something horrible to be dropped.”

“Yeah well he hates me now and soon I’ll be learning and accepting the responsibilities.”

“You sound thrilled.” I stated sarcastically.

“I have never spoken to anyone about this.”

“You don’t have to say if it makes you unhappy.”

“No I should tell you. You as my girlfriend should know. You’re separated from that world not to mention you’re clever. You’ll have a better perspective and you won’t tell me same thing.”

“You’re worrying me now.”

 “I don’t know if,”

“You two get down from there!”

 “I don’t know if I want it.”

“Being King you mean?”

“The idea may please others but I hate it. Alicia I hate it so much…” I don’t know what to say so I kissed him for comfort. “Everyone is expecting me to just follow along like trained dog. They all believe I am capable of running their world when I can’t even take care of you.”

“Don’t say that Drake.”

“It’s true.”

“I will not ask you again!”

“You didn’t ask!” I shouted down at the woman aggravated then cupped Drake’s face. “No it’s not. Stop blaming yourself for others mistakes and my mishaps. And with the king thing I have no doubt your leadership skills.”

“Don’t kid yourself Alicia. I am…” He sighed.

I leaned over him. “You’re perfect.”

“You don’t know that.”

“You don’t give me enough credit. Now come on bad boy before she comes up.”

“No, come on.”

“What?”

“She hasn’t seen us…” He smiled mischievously taking my hand and pulling me over the rooftop.

“Drake what are you doing?”

“Where do you think I get my bad boy rep?”

“I didn’t know you had one.”

“You didn’t listen to the rumours?”

“A few but I kept out of it. Didn’t want to get on your wrong side.”

“Really? You were afraid of me?” He asked amused.

“More cautious than scared.” I tripped and he caught me in his arms tilting his face forward to mine.

“Are you afraid of me now?”

“I was never afraid of you.” I straightened up. He pressed his nose on my neck, I felt my heart pulsate. All the feelings of Hunter’s bite flourished back sending me on split second high. I’ll never forget how amazing it felt which scares me.

“Sure you weren’t.”

“You’re not that scary Drake.”

“You’re going to regret that.” He flung me off the roof and before I could even scream he caught bridal style and repeatedly smacked his chest.

“I can’t believe you just did that.”

“It was funny.”

“Oh yeah would it have been funny if you didn’t catch me? If I died and you’d come down seeing my blood splattered all over the place!”

“You’re such a drama queen.”

“Put me down so I can beat you!”
