[Chapter 2] - Herald from a Past Forgotten

(POV - 3RD)

"..." (Y/N) gazed at the young man who gazed back at him, both of their eyes impassive as a girl stood next to them.

Both newcomers came running in right as the two mysterious intruders of this space station have vanished into nowhere as (Y/N) cradled the still unconscious Stelle within his arms.

The male which (Y/N) observed is donned in a white and turquoise coat with golden accents and lines tracing along its surface which he wore over his black turtleneck and equally dark trousers and boots. Unlike his companion, his expression was more calm and quiet as (Y/N)'s golden amber eyes met the young man's own green eyes.

Next to him was a shorter girl with bright pink hair which made a pleasant matching scheme with her brightly coloured clothing of blue and white as well as the small camera which hung off by her side. While (Y/N) and the young man glanced at each other's weapons, her eyes of pink and blue only looked on in confusion.

"...Uhh..." She could only watch the silent exchange in confusion before seeing (Y/N) and her companion shake each other's hands.

"Spear is the GOAT weapon." Both thought, much to her growing confusion.

Out of all the interactions she thought would have happened the moment they saw the unknown man holding another unknown girl in his arms, her friend shaking hands with the former was definitely not one of them, especially when she didn't even know what they were thinking of in the first place!

"Okay, okay! Ignoring why you two are shaking hands for no reason, are you alright?" The girl asked the first question as she puts away her bow.

"As fine as I can be right now..." (Y/N) replied.

"Good to hear! So, who are you?" The bubbly archer then asked as the young man suddenly narrowed his eyes at his own fuzzy memories.

"Who... am I..?" He repeated quietly, blinking and standing there seemingly in a daze which the bubbly girl to look on in concern before speaking.

"Are you alright? If asking who you are is too much then I'll start first! I'm March 7th, but you can just call me March." The friendly girl then introduced herself.

Although he doesn't remember much, the girl's name itself was quite unusual when it was named after a date rather than an actual name, but he isn't the type to pry especially when he doesn't know the full story.

"This gloomy guy here is Dan Heng! He's the Astral Express' resident nerd!" March then added as the said man sighed.

"I can introduce myself just fine March, but yes, my name is Dan Heng and we both happened to find you two in this space station just as it was under attack by the Antimatter Legion."

"March 7th... Dan Heng... my name is... (Y/N)... (L/N), I think..?" The young man then answered back, befuddled at his lack of memories.

"You 'think'? Are you perhaps suffering memory loss?" Dan Heng then asked in concern.

"I don't know..? All I remember is my name..." (Y/N) responded though he wondered if he should tell them that he also remembers his abilities to conjure forth constructs made out of rock.

"You got memory loss as well? Well, that makes it double since I also got it!" March stated, not at all concerned with the issue.

"Nngh..." Another voice broke the trio out of their thoughts as the girl within (Y/N)'s arms began waking up, opening up her equally golden eyes like the former.

"...How many fingers am I holding up?" (Y/N) asked, making sure to get a grasp on the girl's cognitive activity and consciousness.

"Three." The girl answered almost immediately.

"Do you remember your name?" Dan Heng then asked which the girl only stared at the group in a seemingly daze before responding.

"...My name? My name is... Stelle."

"Stelle? That's a nice name! Though I have to ask, are you two related in any way?" March questioned, especially noting (Y/N) and the former's eye colours.

"March, their matching eye colours could just be a coincidence... although we DID find them in this place, with Stelle being held in his arms." Dan Heng reasoned.

Meanwhile, the said girl's gaze was strangely fixated on (Y/N) alone as she tilted her head in almost an adorable way before out of nowhere, Stelle suddenly wrapped her arms around him, nuzzling into the former's chest as he tried to unlatch her to no avail.

"...So did you both happen to be a couple?" Dan Heng asked, looking at how clingy Stelle is to her fellow amnesiac as March stared in surprise.

"No, I don't even know who she is." (Y/N) retorted as he already gave up making Stelle let go.

*Click*

"...What are you doing?" (Y/N) then demanded, looking at the camera in March's hands.

"Can't miss taking a photo of this cute couple!" The girl replied cheerfully.

"But we're not-" (Y/N) said, looking at Dan Heng who only shrugged.

"You'll get used to her." He stated with a deadpan.

============================

The group are now making their way across the hallway of the space station, while the two newcomers have managed to pry Stelle off (Y/N)'s body, the girl still resorted to interlocking her arms with his own as they discussed the current situation.

"Before we found you guys, we were helping with the rescue and evacuation of this station's personnel at the request of Lead Researcher Asta." March stated.

"We were checking for any survivors here but only found you two together."

"If that's the case, then how's the situation looking?" (Y/N) questioned as Dan Heng replied.

"Not good, with the Antimatter Legion swarming this place, we're going to have to rendezvous with the rest in the Master Control Zone lest we get overwhelmed here and now."

"Plus Dan Heng and I can fight! Though I do wonder how will Stelle handle herself seeing that she doesn't have a weapon at all..." March said.

"She can use this." Was the teal-themed teenager response, as he held out a baseball bat.

"...Why is there a bat in here of all places..?" (Y/N) asked as Stelle accepted it and gave it a swing around for the feel.

"At this point, I don't even know." Dan Heng answered back with a deadpan before a loud noise prompted them to turn around to Stelle already smashing things into pieces.

"And I may or may not be already regretting my decision." He added as they walked across countless fragments of barrels and boxes.

"Ack! They found us!" March exclaimed, readying her bow as an enemy from the Antimatter Legion suddenly turned around the corner.

"Stelle, get back here!" (Y/N) called out which the girl quickly heeded just in time to avoid getting jumped by the new adversary.

"If one is already here then more would be coming." Dan Heng deducted, brandishing his spear as the two amnesiac followed suit.

"Is that the Antimatter Legion?" (Y/N) asked.

"One of the most basic troops, Voidranger: Reaver." Dan Heng calmly answered.

"If you're both still feeling uneasy or uncomfortable then leave it to us!" March stated confidently, firing an arrow of condensed ice.

The attack was simple but effective as March's arrow quickly imbedded itself into the Reaver before a resonating spark of white cracked along the enemy's body which prompted Dan Heng to effectively dash forward and stab the Voidranger in the abdomen, impaling it easily.

However, as luck would constantly play against their wishes, more Voidrangers showed up which both March 7th and Dan Heng began to fight seriously, the archer fired her arrows much faster than before while the spearman swiftly took down the enemies like a deadly gale.

"Hm, we need to make our way out of here. The noises are bound to attract more of them to our location." Dan Heng stated.

"Got it! Both of you, just follow us!" March then shouted as they made a run for it.

Thankfully, the other direction the group ran at was devoid of any more enemies but they soon made a stop at another vicinity which led to a nearby elevator station.

"The three of you should go back first, Arlan from the Security Department lost contact with us in this area so I'll find him first." Dan Heng explained.

"Do you need our help?" (Y/N) asked but his fellow spearman shook his head.

"Thanks for the offer, but it shouldn't be difficult for me but I'll be sure to keep in contact with you guys if anything arises." Dan Heng said.

"Then... good luck." Stelle called out as they parted ways.

"Guess we're going our own after all..." (Y/N) remarked as March only grinned.

"Don't worry too much~! As long as we stick together, we'll make it out here in no time!"

The trio walked through the corridor which virtually looked the same no matter where they went but they soon entered a large room with multiple pedestals displaying objects within them.

While (Y/N) looked around curiously, Stelle remained stubbornly clung onto his arm.

"This is where Herta usually stores her fancy little gadgets as a collection... even though I don't know why should collect them and then let them gather dust here..." March explained.

"Better in her hands then a person with ulterior motives..." (Y/N) commented before trailing off.

"I guess you're right, never really thought about it much... (Y/N)? What's wrong?" The archer then asked, noticing the boy staring at a display.

Unlike every other items floating on the pedestal, the object floating in front of (Y/N) was just a simple dull red blade fragmented into many pieces... it was completely ordinary and nothing worth looking at or collecting for yet he felt...

"(Y/N)?" Stelle said, pulling on the boy's arm which broke his thoughts.

"You've been staring at this for a while, do you know what it is?" March inquired curiously only for the boy to shake his head.

"No, I just felt... strange." He answered.

"Strange?" Stelle repeated with growing exaggerated concern.

"It's nothing, we should move on." (Y/N) said as the group continued walking with the boy sparing the fragments one last glance.

They soon approached another shut door which March then walked up to a terminal with its screen in orange whereas the girl tapped a few buttons on the small monitor attached to her wrist, turning the terminal green which opened the door.

Both of them followed March only for (Y/N)'s senses to suddenly fire up as he grabbed March and Stelle before leaping back just as a Voidranger: Reaver slashed down at where they stood.

"Ah! Those Antimatter Legion already made it all the way here?!" March exclaimed indignantly before nocking an arrow.

Stelle and (Y/N) were not idle as they quickly dashed forward towards the enemy with March's arrows shooting past them which provided an optimal distraction and pain for the Voidranger, allowing the former to smash her bat right onto its chest first.

(Y/N) then thrusted his spear towards the area where Stelle struck, thinking that an already injured place would have its durability lowered enough for him to pierce his spear through.

The tip of the golden spear effortlessly impaled the Antimatter troop but the unseen innate strength of the spear was put to display as Vortex Vanquisher only drilled its target continuously until everything is thoroughly vanquished.

The power behind the spear caused a minor tremor to erupt just as (Y/N) pierced it through the monster, the sheer impact of the spear was enough to testify its unknown strength to the boy who could only stare at his weapon, dumbstruck.

"Woah~! Were you always this strong? How did your spear do that? I don't think Dan Heng's could twist like that." March exclaimed, stars in her eyes.

"I... didn't know I could do that..." (Y/N) replied back honestly, everything still feels relatively new for him even though the sensation of holding this weapon felt familiar.

"Still, it's pretty awesome~!" March complimented with a smile.

"He's my guardian, of course he's awesome!" Stelle huffed, hands on her hips as she smiled smugly while the boy in question only sighed.

Curse that woman for making him babysit this girl who he just can't have the heart to refute her.

The trio's minor bickering were then interrupted by an inhumane snarl and a set of footsteps walking towards them as they turned to see more of the Voidrangers in front of them.

"Haah... why can't everything just be more simple?" March sighed before taking aim with her bow as the other two prepared themselvs.

"What are these things called again?" (Y/N) questioned, poising his spear at the front.

"We refer to these Antimatter Legion troop as 'Voidranger: Reaver"... but it's already mentioned a few paragraphs up." March stated.

"...What?" The boy said, just noticing an odd statement as he looked at the archer.

"What?" March repeated, turning to him as if nothing was wrong.

"Nevermind, let's just get this over with-" Whatever (Y/N) wants to say was cut off as they both heard a rather harsh smack of metal against a surface.

The two turned to see Stelle already beating the absolute daylights out of the Voidrangers, relentlessly smashing her bat onto their heads and arms with enough force to crack their armour and the blades attached to their limbs.

"...Let's not let her do all the work." (Y/N) then said, joining the fight.

"Agreed~!" March affirmed, taking aim before firing her crystal arrows at the targets.

============================

So far, the trio had a rather easy time fighting off any Antimatter Legion troops they came across, mostly due to (Y/N)'s ridiculously absurd strength from whenever he swung his weapon at them.

At that point, March had decided for (Y/N) to TRY and hold back lest he creates more collateral damage upon the space station which Herta may or may not be happy about.

(Y/N) didn't exactly know who Herta is but with how March is referring to this space station as hers then it probably meant she is a highly influential individual therefore accidentally breaking a bunch of walls and floors... and some terminals and devices may not please her.

Actually, scratch that, all the walls, floors, screens, terminals, devices, glasses and other unfortunate items that he'd accidentally hit all needs reparations as well as replacements.

Their trek then led them to an elevator which is located in the middle of the vast area of the Storage Zone which coincidentally reunited them with Dan Heng and another young man following after him albeit with an injured limp.

They were currently returning to the elevator after finding out it was deliberately shut down in order to keep the Antimatter Legion away from the Master Control Zone, but using an encryption key given by the Lead Researcher would do the trick to reactivate it.

Said key was apparently on March who gave the three boys and one girl a sigh of relief.

"So... they both found you two unconscious and amnesiac together?" Arlan, the head of the Security Department inquired rather confusedly.

"Yep~! Talk about two peas in a pod!" March remarked, nudging both (Y/N) and Stelle, earning a resigned sigh from the latter.

"It's nothing but sheer coincidence, get your head out of the gutter." He said, flicking March in the forehead, earning a squawk from her.

Since the elevator was literally a few steps away from the control station of the area, it didn't take them long to return back whilst eliminating several more Antimatter Legion troops that attempted to obstruct them on the way.

"That's it? We've already reached the elevator? Man, that was too easy~!" March exclaimed, skipping lightly ahead before pausing.

"On second thoughts, I probably shouldn't have said that..." She added.

(Y/N)'s eyes widened slightly as his ears picked up the sound of something flying through the air and fast and straight towards March's head, he didn't think about anything else before he shot towards the unaware girl and then swung his spear hard at the projectile.

Before any of them realised what just happened, (Y/N) held up his spear, avoiding a pair of hooves from trampling onto him which he then pushed off with surprising ease as he looked at the new attacker in front of them.

Unlike the previous Voidranger: Reavers, Baryons and Distorters, the new Antimatter Legion minion was one that appeared to grossly mimic that of a centaur with spiralling horns jutting out all over its body and a large shield-like protrusion growing out from one of its forelimbs.

"This is..?" (Y/N) asked which Dan Heng answered.

"Voidranger: Trampler, it should be classified as an elite enemy amongst the legion."

"...I see, then you take care of the Reavers, I'll take it on." (Y/N) stated, prompting his fellow spearman to turn to him in surprise.

"You've just recently woken up, it would be better for me to go against it." Dan Heng refuted but March called out to him before he could say anything else.

"Don't worry! (Y/N)'s way stronger than he looks, really! He actually caused collateral damage while helping us!" She shouted, dodging a Reaver's blade before shooting it back.

"Is it out of inexperience or actual strength..." Dan Heng said, deadpanning but seeing (Y/N)'s resolute eyes, he relented.

"Alright, but pull back if it gets difficult." Was all he said as he went to fend off any other enemies that got near Arlan who had to stay back due to his injuries.

(Y/N) turned to face the Trampler which instantly lunged at him with its front legs raised, aiming to crush him underfoot which the former quickly leapt back, avoiding a heavy set of hooves smashing into the metal floor which dented it.

He immediately countered by leaping forward, thrusting his spear at the Trampler-

The Antimatter Legion elite leapt aside to avoid his attack, but not before losing literally a portion of its front body due to the innate power of Vortex Vanquisher which effortlessly tore through its shell, causing a huge shockwave and tremor to erupt from the single attack.

Meanwhile, the other combatants also felt the rumble much to their shock.

"See! I told you he's strong!" March exclaimed smugly, glancing at Dan Heng.

"...No comment." He said, stabbing a Reaver through its chest.

Despite getting a part of it torn off, the Trampler was still relentless as he charged at (Y/N), slamming its hooves across the floor as it tried to kick and trample down the latter who only responded by swiftly dodging its attempts.

Seeing its attacks failing quickly, the Trampler quickly pulled back before taking aim with its Spiral of Arrow that caused the winds to pick up around it as it nocked back an unseen arrow.

However, before it could unleash it-

"H-hey! Stelle, what are you doing! You'll get shot by the Trampler if you run up to it!" March abruptly shouted.

"Rules are made to be broken." A chilling voice said out loud as Stelle suddenly closed in on the Trampler and then smashed her bat full-force onto its face.

"Don't touch you dare touch him." She said, almost in a snarl as she proceeded to smash her bat onto the Trampler over and over again, rendering it stunned.

Which also stunned (Y/N) by Stelle's sudden shift in behaviour.

"...Should I be concerned..?" (Y/N) thought to himself before heard something else fly through the air which he turned to see... a drone?

Before Stelle could continue her beatdown on the unfortunate target, the drone suddenly extended out a limb of its own which a giant buzzsaw was connected at the end of it.

Both (Y/N) and Stelle's attacks were sufficient enough to weaken the Trampler which the drone then easily took off its head with a single slice as its body got sucked into a mini-black hole.

"What was that..?" (Y/N) questioned as the drone flew off.

"Ah! That was Himeko's drone, talk about convenient!" March exclaimed with relief.

"Let's go, we shouldn't linger any longer than needed." Dan Heng added.

Just as soon as the archer said that name... (Y/N) felt his own mind throb as his vision suddenly blurred and he saw what appeared to be... memories? Flashbacks? Hallucinations?

Yet, as quickly as the flashes came, it faded away as they regrouped themselves at the elevator with Stelle looking at him with concern, noticing his slight discomfort.

"Are you okay?" She asked, clutching onto (Y/N)'s sleeve.

"...Yes, I am... alright." He reassured as Arlan swiped the encryption key into the terminal, causing the elevator to open up which they entered quickly lest more enemies come.

Slowly and progressively, they ascended to the next level which another individual is seen waiting for them at the doorway of the elevator which soon opened up to reveal them.

She stood there with a fiery red hair cascading down her back and donned in an elegant white dress which a jacket hung on the back of her shoulders, her golden eyes scanned over each of them, lingering on Stelle and (Y/N) who especially froze at her appearance.

Yet to (Y/N), his mind was in a growing turmoil as he clutched his head, vision flashing as he saw another similar woman's image overlapping hers and with one word that appeared repetitively in his head as he tried to blink away the flashes of white.

"...Himeko..?"

============================

I published the first chapter as a form of "trailer" and preview for what's to come for our familiar amnesiac MC but I truly did not expect a positive reception of this story especially when I haven't even got to the important parts of the main story.

Since you guys wanted it, I will give so hopefully you've enjoyed this chapter.
