Ballad of the Eyes of Tantalus

You face the other way,

Your lips speak to another person.

But when your eyes meet mine,

They yearn with curiosity,

with interest

with compassion.

You radiate in love,

You radiate in health,

You give off warmth and comfort,

a laugh for everyone to remember,

But why is it cold in here?

Why do I loom in the darkness?

Why do i face sorrow alone?

Nothing grows in the realm I live in.

Nothing looks up and smiles.

What gives me these eyes

That only see hatred and lies?

Who damned me with eyes

That mask reality?

Who damned me to see you

As you continue in blissful joy?

Who damned me to see you

As you cheer everyone up?

Your captivating stare,

Your bright smile,

Your soft cheery voice

Proves that heaven can incarnate itself.

Oh Tantalus, you spread your pain,

As I cannot grasp the warmth

Set out for everyone, accepting or not

Let me be, don't look at me.

Don't add to my despair.

It's dark enough to live in my world,

Being here only strengthens the shadow.

All my dreams,

My dreams of seeing light

Is right here in front of me.

But Tantalus, oh Tantalus,

What other pain do you reserve?
