Late February 2012

Caroline was currently sitting in her dorm bathroom and couldn't believe what she was currently looking down at. In her hand, sat a positive pregnancy test. The test had to be wrong, it had to be. This should be impossible. At least from Caroline's side.

She knew Klaus was the father, the timeline lined up perfectly with their little tryst in the woods. She knew he could have children, that werewolf chick, Hayley was pregnant with his child the last she heard. But that's because he's a hybrid. Caroline was a full on vampire. This shouldn't have happened. But the test in her hand proved her wrong apparently.

Caroline sighed. She knew there was only one person close to her that she was willing to tell, despite the woman's personal opinions on the father..... Elena Gilbert. Elena was typically understanding when it came to most things. Hopefully that would be the case here.

Caroline took a couple deep breaths, and then slowly grabbed the door knob and turned it, finally exiting the bathroom. Elena looked up from her book. She set the book down and walked over to Caroline.

"You alright, Caroline?" Elena asked, she was worried due to how long Caroline had been in there for. She was probably in there for about an hour at least. At least, that's how long it felt anyways. Elena then hugged Caroline.

Caroline hugged Elena back. She then pulled away from the hug and said, "Elena... there's something I need to tell you."

Elena was starting to get more worried, thus she said, "You know you can tell me anything Caroline. What's up?"

"You're gonna want to sit down for this." Caroline mentioned. Wanting to trust her best friend, Elena sat down on Caroline's bed and braced herself for what it was that Caroline wanted to tell her.

Caroline took a deep breath and spoke, "Elena... I'm pregnant."

Elena looked taken aback for a moment.

"Elena, please say something." Caroline begged.

"Pregnancy isn't completely impossible Caroline. There is fertility spell—" Elena started to say. Caroline then cut her off.

"There was no fertility spells involved in this. That's why it's such a shock Elena."

"Oh. Well then... damn." Elena muttered out. Caroline came over and sat down next to Elena and Elena hugged her again. "Well, just know, I'm here for you Caroline. For whatever you decide."

"Um, there is one more thing I should tell you before you're sure about that." Caroline said. Elena then looked at her, implying her to continue.

Caroline took Elena's hands into hers, "Elena, the father of the baby.... is Klaus. Klaus Mikaelson."

Elena's eyes got wide and Caroline felt her take a deep breath before she spoke, "Caroline.." Elena said, tightening her grip on her best friends hands and looking into Caroline's eyes. "My point still stands, I'm here to support you with whatever you decide."

Caroline was actually shocked, she half-expected Elena to burst into anger as she truly second guessed how Elena would react to the Klaus part. "Why?" Caroline muttered.

"Because you're one of my best friends Caroline. Do I like the fact you had sex with Klaus? No. But I'd be a hypocrite to judge you after I slept with Damon. Plus you're a grown woman, who ultimately is allow to make her own decisions." Elena told her. "So while I may have many, many reservations about Klaus and his position in your life, I am here to support my best friend in her choices. Whether it be to keep the child or not."

"Really?" Caroline said, teary-eyed, looking hopeful.

"Yes, really Caroline." Elena smiled, dropping Caroline's hands and pulling the girl into a hug as Caroline cried into her shoulder. The hug lasted for a few minutes, until Caroline finished crying and finally pulled away.

Elena then looked at Caroline and said, "Plus I'd be a hypocrite in more way than one to judge you. But I'll tell you about that later." Caroline looked confused but trusted Elena. "But for now, let's schedule you an appointment with a OB-GYN. Just so we can make sure everything is okay with you and the baby. It also gives you some time to make a decision on what you'd like to do."

Caroline smiled and said, "I'd like that."

author's note: yes, i know this chapter is very, very late. i came up with the fic idea last year as a birthday gift for my dear friend, patty. then didn't publish it til june of this year. but nonetheless, here's the prologue. hopefuly it won't take this long for the next chapter.

but we'll see, as i'm currently sick and i've been swamped with work lately. i'm use to 35 hr weeks but since the start of november, i've been doing 40 hr weeks. i like that i make more money, but god damn, i'm not use to it. and yes, i know it probably because it's holiday season.

sorry about that small rant/vent. my bad, but i needed to get that out of my system.
