Prologue

A cream she cat walked out of her twoleg's den. Two mewling kits dangled from her jaws. "Hush, little ones," she whispered. "We're going somewhere nicer, just the three of us. No nasty twoleg kits will chase us there, and Birch says that there are lots of tasty snacks for us." The she-cat crossed through the garden and out the front gate. She sat her kits under a bush. The she-kit squirmed around, while the tom just curled up, apparently calm. The cream cat gave a small laugh. He's just like his father. She gently scooped the kits back up and kept walking.

After what felt like forever, she found the meeting place. A burly brown speckled tom was sitting on a fence.
"Well look at that! He does look just like me!" he purred.

"He acts like you as well. He barely even squirmed while I walked."

"I bet he did! Have you named them yet?"

" Who wouldn't? The little she is Mel, and your son is Arbor."

"Arbor? Mel? Aurora, what kind of names are those?"

"They're words from that language my housefolk studies," Aurora purred proudly. "It took some time to learn them, and I think they're perfect."

The tom shrugged. "What ever you want, I guess. Come on, I'll show you where I live!" The speckled tom jumped off the fence, but Aurora didn't move.

"I don't think that they should go with you," she said, her voice almost a whisper. "Considering what we've had to go through, I think that raising them around you would make things worse. Give them time, and then we'll see."

The tom flicked his tail in annoyance. "Good luck then," he muttered, clearly a little upset. He leapt off the fence and strolled off, and before long, he was out of sight.

Ooooo! The plot may be a little patchy, but basically what happened is Aurora's owner had kids, and they were scaring the kits. So yep. Mother of the year!
