Chapter 2
A/N: I may just call the books that take place in this time and place "The Clans to Be" or something. Feather out!
Birch sat next to Aurora, smiling like a fool. Aurora looked happy as well, but there was worry in her eyes. Mel sat down next to Arbor. "So who is he, mom?" She asked, eager to know.
Aurora ignored her question. "I believe it's time to tell you a bit about why we came here," she said. "I'm sure you don't remember it very well, but we were kittypets."
"Kittypets? You have to be kidding!" Arbor spat. "We can't be kittypets! We don't wear collars!"
Mel gave her brother a gentle swat. Arbor glared at her, but returned his attention to his mother.
Aurora continued. " I lived there for far longer than you did, however. You two were only a moon old when we left. Let's just say that I wasn't the only one in our house with kits."
Arbor shook his head, recalling blurry memories filled with panic and fear. Did she really leave her home just for us? She really does love us.
"So why is he here?" Mel asked, gesturing at Birch.
Their mother's voice softened to a whisper. "Birch is your father."
"That's right!" Birch said excitedly. "And from the looks of it, you two are my fantastic kits! I can't wait to spend time with you!"
Arbor remained silent. It's not that he didn't like Birch. He seemed like a nice cat. Maybe he was a good father too. Birch seemed to draw Aurora out of the shell she usually hid in. Life was going to be better now.
"Nice to meet you, dad," greeted Arbor. "It's nice knowing that I won't be surrounded by crazy she-cats anymore."
Birch chuckled. "Yes, this will be a wonderful family indeed."
