Eowyn POV
I worked with (y/n) in the caves below the Keep. We had gotten quite close over the last few days. After she arrived at the Helm, I helped with her wounds, making sure she was okay. She told me what happened, briefly explaining that she had a form of foresight.
I walked over to my friend after I handed an older woman a blanket. Fighting could be heard above us, occasionally shaking the cave.
"What do you think is going on up there?" I asked quietly.
She sighed.
"I'm not sure at the moment," she replied at the same volume, "but I can tell you that everyone out there is fighting like they never have before." She looked at me, gently grabbing my shoulders. "We will get through this, Eowyn. Trust me when I say that. We are going to win this battle. We may lose men out there, but we are going to win this battle entirely. They will die with honor. They will be honored greatly."
I felt hope rise in my chest.
"We will win this war?" I asked.
"Yes, Eowyn. We are going to defeat Sauron. Darkness will no longer be on this land." She smiled at me. "You will finally be at peace." I was about to question her when she continued. "Do not question that, just believe that better times are coming soon."
I nodded.
"Thank you, (y/n)."
"You're welcome, my friend." She pulled me into a hug. I smiled and hugged her back. She laughed quietly. "By the way, there's someone I'm taking you to see after the battle."
I smiled at her. Suddenly, there was a loud bang that caught our attention. The women started to panic.
"They're breaking in!" one cried.
"They're past the door!" another said.
"Everyone calm down!" (y/n) called, trying to calm the women and children. I stayed where I was and hugged a little girl, trying to quiet her. I kept my eyes on (y/n) as she moved throughout the cave. "The Uruk-hai will not get through that door. They will not reach these caves. Not while it is still protected. Believe me, we are safe down here."
I smiled at her though some of the people were still a little restless. (y/n) knew just what to say in times of trouble. I stood up, still holding the girl in my arms, as (y/n) came back over to me. She gave me a small smile before walking over to the door. She stood there for a moment before opening the door slightly. I recognized Gamling on the other side.
"My lady," I heard him say, though it was quiet. "You must move everyone down the mountain pass. The fortress is no longer safe."
"Do not say that, Gamling," (y/n) replied. "Go back to Theoden. You will want to be there when we win this battle."
"I admire your faith, Lady (y/n). We need more of that nowadays."
She simply smiled and closed the door. She looked at me.
"It is almost over," she said with a small smile.
A few moments later, we heard the Rohirrim charging back out into battle. We could faintly hear fighting outside and after what seemed like eternity, it died down. I looked at (y/n), looking for some kind of sign of confirmation. She simply stood by the door, caring for anyone around her.
Suddenly, the doors opened, causing some of the women to cry out in fear, but they quickly calmed down when recognize it as Gamling. He announced that the battle was won and the women could return to the surface. I smiled and placed the girl on the ground, letting her run along with the others. I followed after the women and children. (y/n) stayed back with Gamling to make sure everyone got out.
When I reached the surface, I sighed in relief. Though parts of the fortress were in ruin, there were no orcs in sight. I found Aragorn through the crowd and ran to him, embracing him. He hugs me back before stepping away. A moment later, (y/n) approached us.
"You ready to see someone?" she questioned.
I nodded slowly, unsure who she was taking me to see. (y/n) looked at Aragorn and covered her mouth to hide her words. Aragorn smiled and motioned to an area to our left. (y/n) thanked him and grabbed my hand, pulling my through the crowd. She didn't stop until we reached a group of soldiers. I froze in place when I recognized one of them, even with their helmet still on.
"Eomer," I breathed.
(y/n) smiled and gave me a gentle push forward. I glanced at her before running towards my brother, hugging him tightly.
"Eowyn," he said, hugging me back.
"I am so glad you are safe."
"As am I, my sister."
