Steve cleared his throat: "Did you tell the doctor about her near-confession of killing Paula's husband?"

"Do you actually think Cassie capable of murder, Steve?" Tom said.

"Not the Cass I know, no. But Tom, I think the doctor needs all the pertinent information and frankly I want my wife protected. It may not be her fault but if Cass is dangerous she needs to be helped and the doctor can do a better job of that if he knows everything."

"It's Cass, Steve – my wife. And what about Billy?" he said.

"I know, Tom. Look, I won't say anything to the authorities at this point, if you give me your word that you'll tell Cassie's doctors everything."

"I think that would be all right.  He's a doctor, it's privileged information."

"So is an attorney, You should probably consult one of them as well, just to cover your back – and  Cass's," Steve finished.
