Seven - This Isn't You
Jessica looked down at the pale hand suspended in the air, thinking over once more before she placed her hand into his and made the partnership a sealed deal.
"Really?" Loki chuckles a bit, the wicked smile never leaving his face, "I was beginning to think I might have to use the staff." He couldn't believe she complied so easily to his proposal.
"Nice to know you care about my opinion," Jessica sarcastically joked, smirking at him with a little glint of mischief in her eyes.
He eyed her curiously before stepping around and mentioning, "You know the deal will only work if we win..." Jessica nodded at him and dramatically cracking her neck and knuckles.
She smugly replied, "Then don't make any mistakes, Loki."
~🕷~
"Well, hello, Star Spangled Banner," Jessica greeted, walking up beside the Captain and striking a Chitauri in the face with her fist, watching it fly back into a wall and crumple down. Steve's ears practically perked up like a dog's at the sound of the code words, which he barely understood. All he knew was that things were going south.
"Uh...Jess?" He cautiously asked as they were back to back, fighting the other worldly beings.
"It's Arachne, Steve," she stressed, rolling her eyes at the forgetfulness of the soldier behind her.
"Is everything alright?" Steve asked, standing in her view of an oncoming Chitauri. His eyes filled with concern as they searched hers for any emotion at all. Then, without turning, he punched the Chitauri in the face just before it jumped at him.
"Look," she nodded over to the officers and people, "You should get them to help the people to safety. I'll watch your back for Chitauri and hold them off here." Not once had Jessica's eyes met Steve's after he asked the question. She was worried of the suspicion that Loki could hold and she didn't want Steve to get hurt more than he already might.
He looked back at the people and thought for a moment before turning back to look at Jessica's expression. Steve turned away from her unreadable face and darted toward the officers directing them to get people to safety while they protested and Jessica kept an eye out for oncoming Chitauri around Steve.
"You got one to your left, Steve," Jessica announced over the comms, becoming distracted with the monster that jumped onto her and growled while others tried to shoot her as she was technically 'down.' She glared at the creature, wondering if Loki hadn't told them she wasn't supposed to be a main target. Nonetheless, Jessica kicked the chitauri away and snatched a gun from the dead one beside her.
"As they say," she smirked at the oncoming chitauri, "weapon makers only make weapons suitable for killing their own kind and weaker. Let's test the theory." She lifted the gun with one hand and shot five down. Even being on their side, Jessica had to play her part in Loki's schemes.
'I just want you to know,' Jessica almost jumped at the voice in her head, who appeared to be Loki, 'the Chitauri don't matter to us. Shoot to Thrill.' The spider-woman turned in a 360, making sure Loki wasn't lurking around and pranking her. Once she didn't spot him, her hesitant reply wasn't said aloud, but in her head.
'Okay.'
~🕷~
'your friends really have it out for me' Loki's voice rings through her head again as Jessica fights oncoming Chitauri.
'I think you use the term friends very lightly, Loki' she responds, knowing they won't think of her as a friend after this and maybe they didn't even now considering she was captured by them and locked up with Loki. His small laugh echoes in her mind and she's still astonished at his revealed power.
After a few moments of fighting, Jessica hears Loki's voice in her head again and she rolls her eyes as he squeaks out, 'Help. Stark Tower.' She backs away from the Chitauri and jumps onto the side of Stark Tower for the second time today. Climbing up, she spots a hole in one of the windows and takes a lucky guess at where Loki is.
"Where'd you go? I could use the help, Arachne," Steve announces over the comms and Jessica feels a small hint of regret, but pushes it back as she smirks down at Loki, who is crushed into the ground of Tony's house.
"Sorry, Rogers," Steve sighed at her usage of his last name instead of his first. He thought of it as some sort of defence mechanism so she wouldn't get too close to anyone. "I'm in the middle of fighting Loki at Stark's." If by 'Fighting' Jessica meant pulling him up to his feet and smirking at the dust on his clothes.
"How'd you let this happen?" she asked, watching as he scowled at her and brushed his clothes free of the grey dust from the floor.
"The Hulk." Jessica gave him a 'say no more' look, knowing how scary he Hulk can be after seeing him attack Natasha first hand.
She sighed, looking out the window and back at Loki while saying, "You're gonna blow my cover. Help yourself out of the next hole, yeah?" He nodded with a blank look on his face as Jessica eyed him and walked out onto the platform connected to Stark Tower.
Jessica had spotted Natasha and Doctor Selvig out by the Tesseract, but she ignored it to buy them time. Maybe she didn't want Loki to win, but another half of her was yearning for her memories. Her head hurt and she didn't know if it was the fact that she had hit her head and it was bleeding or if she was trying to dig for her memories too hard, but it could be both. After hitting her head, Jessica gained glimpses and fragments of memories, but not whole ones.
She sighed yet again, looking out over the terrorised Manhattan and spoke over the comms, "Hey, Rogers. What's your phone number?"
Steve became side tracked as she asked the question, but he didn't have a great answer for it. How could he not even think about getting a phone since he had be unfrozen? He wasn't really sure why the thought didn't cross his mind. Didn't need it, Steve supposed.
He scratched the back of his neck and replied, "I don't, uh-"
Tony Stark, completely mortified for Steve and his lame ass (as he put it), interrupted, "I'll give it to you after all of this is over."
"You promise, Tony?" Arachne asked, eyeing the flying red and gold suit or, rather, the man inside of it.
"Promise." Tony Stark wasn't one to break promises, being let down by so many in his past. He couldn't do the same thing to other when he had the choice not to. It wasn't like him, surprisingly. Sometimes Tony even surprised himself with his nice acts, wondering if they were out of guilt for his past deeds or if they were purely from wanting to be nice. He doubted the second option a lot. He doubted himself even more mostly because of his dad's doubts in him.
'Y'know, Loki, for the bad guy, you're quite fun,' Jessica admitted in her head, sitting with her feet dangling off the side of Stark Tower as she still stalled for Natasha. Even though she didn't want the world to bow down to a random guy from another universe, she was having some sort of mischievous fun. Loki might've been rubbing off on her and she wondered if it was from their telepathic connection or something related to HYDRA.
'I happen to know that already,' he replied and she could almost hear him smirk as she rolled her eyes at his cocky nature. Jessica looked down at the ground, where Chitauri run ramped, and wondered. She wondered if her choice was smart. She wondered if they would succeed and if she would ever get her memories back, but the wondering stopped with Loki.
'Stop asking me stuff I can't answer, Arachne.' The sound of Loki's annoyed voice frightened her because she had forgotten he could hear her thinking at all times. That seemed unreasonable though, maybe she was accidentally pushing these questions towards him. Maybe she just had to control what thoughts went to Loki and what's thoughts didn't. 'You're right.'
So, she wondered if he knew about her code words with Captain America, but forced her mind not to ask him. Hopefully it worked and Loki didn't hear that.
'So... Loki,' she began to strike a conversation as she glanced over at Doctor Selvig, 'after all this is over, I need to learn how to use a microwave the right way.' She heard him chuckle in her head and questioned why he was laughing at her.
Loki smirked and responded, 'Because you won't need those where we're going, darling.'
"I can close it! Can anybody hear me? I can shut the portal down!" Natasha called over the comms and Jessica looked back at the Tesseract, where the agent stood with Loki's staff. Then, she decided she had stalled long enough and got into combat mode.
'They know how to close the portal. I'm going to try and stop them,' Jessica informed Loki as she inched closer to Natasha and the doctor.
"Do it!" Steve shouted back, Jessica scrunching her nose as her heightened hearing couldn't bare their screaming.
"No, wait!" Tony shouts, causing Natasha to pause.
"If you guys don't stop yelling, I'm planning on going deaf!" Jessica informed them with great force, rolling her eyes as she gets ignored and Steve yells at Tony.
"Stark, these things are still coming!"
"You're not even yelling over anything, Christ!" Jessica shouts at them.
"I got a nuke coming in, it's gonna blow in less than a minute. And I know just where to put it," Tony informs, smirking a his clever mind.
'Okay, Stark is planning to blow up your Chitauri buddies,' Jessica tells Loki, but gets no response and continues on to Natasha and the doctor.
"I can't let you do that, Romanoff," Arachne says in a stiff voice, holding the back of the staff with her superhuman strength.
"Let go, Jessica," the red head commands, "you don't want to do this." As Natasha studied the girl, she saw only a glimpse of regret cross over Jessica's face for a split second. The red head was confused as she looked at the dark haired girl. In no way, did Natasha know what Jessica was thinking and it bothered her. This was practically her job and she wasn't even doing it right. Natasha decided then that if she couldn't read Jessica, the best thing she could do was to defeat her.
"Oh," Jessica smirks at her, motivation clouding her eyes, "but I do." The blue begins to fade from the tip of the staff and into the back where Jessica's hands rest, pulling the energy back. Natasha blinks at the staff in surprise, but then glares up at Jessica, who only smirks in reply. They fight for the staff, but Natasha end up pushing Jessica to the edge of the building saying her last words before pushing the girl off; "I know this isn't you, Jessica. HYDRA did this and I'll find a way to fix it."
Jessica smirks as she falls and questions over the comms, "Why do you think I'm doing this in the first place, Natasha?" Her wings open as she glides down toward the streets of Manhattan.
"Doing what?" Steve asks over the comms, hoping for a straight answer.
"Avengers, Arachne has gone rouge. Do not, I repeat, do not engage unless needed. Her strength is almost unmatchable and we aren't sure what she's capable of," Natasha tells them, wiping the blood from her cut cheek with the back of her hand.
'They know. I tried to stop her,' Jessica tells Loki as she lands safely on the ground and searches for Steve. After spotting the blond man in red, white, and blue, she runs towards him with her hands raised as he guards himself.
"Look, I'm not gonna hurt you. Just know... I'm sorry, Steve, but I need them back."
and then she was gone as quick as she came, watching from afar as the portal closed and Tony fell out of the sky.
'I lost.' Loki says, both he and Jessica hearing it and being disappointed at the thought of losing. Jessica risked it all for her memories and it didn't even pay off. All she knew is that she couldn't stay there in Manhattan; She would be found by the Avengers or SHEILD eventually.
Jessica was making her way quickly down the streets of Manhattan, looking for a nice clothing store that was left unlocked after the attack in order to steal their clothes. She found one, walking in without looking at the name and grabbing a black hat, dark blue shirt with lacing in the upper part of the chest, some black ripped jeans, and lastly blue sneakers to match the shirt. She definitely looked like an average late teens-early twenties lady after she changed in the back.
Walking out, she remembered her suit and snatched up a black purse to put it in and then she glanced up at the surveillance cameras and rolled her eyes before climbing up the walls and disconnecting them.
Then, Jessica Drew skipped town without looking back.

Thanks for getting this book close to 300 views! It means a lot :,)
Can you find my AC/DC reference?
So, I wanted to do this future quote thing bc I got the idea from reading TeenageWriter99's 'Iron Daughter' story (which is awesome btw) so yeah! here's the future quote:
'"Look, I've only brought you a refresher,' she went on, tossing the drink toward him as he caught it with ease, 'It's a Peace Tea. One of my favorite flavors.' The soldier looked down at it and glared at the flavor.
'Sno-Berry...?' he asked, his eyes glaring up at Jessica. 'Is that funny to you?' Winter Soldier started to march towards her, crumpling the drink and throwing it down. He lifted his gun and aimed it right at her."
