- Chapter 3 -
I'm sorry
Misaki opened her tired eyelids and looked around. She was at her house, laying on her soft bed and looking at the ceiling. She tried to move her body but she ended up falling off the bed. Cursing mentally, the girl stayed at her position, sniffing the new polished floor.
"Why did I do that?" she asked herself out-loud, face palming the same time. She knew she had acted stubbornly and cocky back there but asking her to join something that had to do with water... was making her always to flip off and have serious anger issues. Misaki was starting to get nervous by thinking those things so she tried to calm her nerves by taking some orange juice from the fridge.
The raven haired girl stepped out of the house, in the balcony, and took a ship from her drink. Its taste seemed bitter on her tongue and she tried clicking the pink muscle in her mouth to take rid of the unpleasant liquid. Seems that even the orange juice isn't agreeing to my actions, Misaki thought with her eye twitching.
Suddenly, she heard the front door's bell ringing and she immediately left the juice box on the wooden table she was eating yesterday. She wipped her hands together on air and opened the door, her facial expression never changing. "May I hel-"
In front of her was standing a boy she was familiar with; he had dirty blond hair and his pinkish eyes was staring at her intensively, a small glimpse of anger boiling in them. The girl took a step back frightened and that gave a chance to the boy to storm in her house without being invinted and close the door angrily behind her.
Before Misaki could utter a word, she was cut off by the boy's outburst. "Namikaze-san!! I understand that you don't want to join our club but that doesn't gives you the right to yell at him! Why did you do that?!"
"Let me explai-"
"Huh? Why? Just answer me already! Mako-chan is a friend of mine and I can't just let him be depressed because of a stupid thing like that! I--"
"Hazuki-kun" Misaki's serious tone of voice cut him off and made him look at her. The sight in front of him made him gasp unexpectadly. Her expression was a deep frown which was making her facial features darken dangerously, her lips turning down and her eyes hiding sadness behind them. "I didn't want to make Tachibana-kun sad and... And I'm truly sorry about it" the girl explained, ending her small speech with a small bow towards Nagisa who was still watching her shocked.
Nagisa gave her a bright smile and patted her shoulder. "Ne, ne, Namikaze-chan, no need to get upset about it~~ Sorry for outbursting like that on you, I just don't want to see my friend being hurted or depressed, ya know?" Misaki nodded in agreement and looked away, leaving a small huff of disappointement about herself. The blond haired male noticed that and tapped his chin, obviously thinking about something. "Namikaze-chan, why don't you go to Mako-chan and apologise to him? I think both of you will feel better in that way!"
Misaki thought about it and seeming not a bad idea to her, she thanked Nagisa and stormed off the house, searching for Makoto. The afternoon had reached its limit point and it had started getting darker; the moon being the only thing shining on the night sky while the small stars peeking little by little on the eternal black color. After half an hour of searching, Misaki had given up to her tries and she was just sitting on the ground, exhausted from the long distance she had to run. Disappointed, she stood up and continued her way back home, deciding to talk tomorrow to Makoto about their little conflict.
As she approached closer to her house, her eyes could notice a dark figure standing right in front of her door like waiting for someone. Being afraid, she walked slower and slower until she was standing a meter away from the figure. Then it was when Misaki decided to talk to the mystery figure, "A-ano, are you waiting for someone?"
The figure jumped up surprised, obviously hadn't noticed Misaki getting closer to the door. The mystery figure turned and revealed brown messy hair with a pair of green eyes which were staring directly into her dark ones. "Namikaze-san" "Tachibana-kun" the two teens said in sync, staring at each other intensively.
The first one to talk was Misaki, taking some steps closer to Makoto. "Tachibana-kun, I'm really sorry for earlier. I was completely out of character and I... overeacted. I wanted to apologize to you about that and...and..." Misaki tried to find more words of wisdom to say but she finished her small speech with a respectful bow towards the male like she had done to Nagisa. Makoto simply chuckled and motioned to her to get up.
"Namikaze-san, I am the one who needs to apologize. I obviously asked you about something you didn't want to talk about and is a stigma in your life, making you over-react like that. I will make sure I won't bother you about this matter again and what you did showed that you can stand up for yourself" Makoto explained, leaving Misaki speechless. The two teenagers stood in silence for a little, thinking about their conversation.
"Tachibana-kun, I-"
"You can call me Makoto if you want to"
Misaki nodded and continued talking, "Makoto-kun, I'm sorry again for outbursting to you like that but there's a reason about that... I can explain to you if you want but I doubt that you would like to hear my boring backstory"
Makoto shook his head negatively, showing to her that he wanted to listen. In addition to that, he took her hand and pulled her together with him, Misaki looking at him questionally. Makoto didn't utter a word and walked up to a close bench, his bright smile never leaving his face. When they sat properly down, Misaki started talking to Makoto, telling him about the reason behind all of that...
"It was a couple of years ago; I have lost the counting. Me and my brother were in our grandparents house and were playing together; our parents had gone to America and they were currently in the plane. The date was 11th of September. I remember that the news were on and were displaying a terrible accident which happened in America's Economical Institute I think; two planes had fallen on the Twin Towers and had killed millions of people. Their yellings and shoots of despair could be heard in the media and being the younger sister, I didn't understand a thing.
"Only when my grandparents were looking worriedly at the screen and my brother was in the verge of tears I understood that something was definitely wrong. I was asking repeatedly what was happening and if mom and dad had arrived safely in America but none of them answered to me. The day after the terroristic accident, I learnt that there was only a tiny amount of survivors and that my parents were in one of those planes which were utterly crushed against the buildings. No one told me what really happened but I was smart enough to understand that my parents were already dead..."
Makoto stared at Misaki shocked, tears almost could be seen at the corners of her eyes. The girl sniffed and looked up at the sky, biting her lip bitterly. "And that's where my story begins..."
