"Six tourists were found dead in Athens, Greece yesterday," Batman said. Holographic images of the temple, both destroyed and not, appeared in the air. along with several charts and graphs. "Around the same time the League detected a large surge of magical energy." I glanced at Percy from the corner of my eye. A subtle frown passed over her features, but all she did was tug at her gloves. Batman continued, "You are to investigate the cause. I will be assisting since this is a public incident, do not talk to the press."
I nodded. "Of course. When do we leave?"
"Immediately." Batman dismissed the holograms. He looked at Percy. "Aquagirl, you will be coming with us as a trial run. Do not make me regret it."
"I will not make any promises," she said. I swore I saw a smile flash across her face.
Megan hovered in the air. "Are you going to be riding with us in the Bioship?" she asked Batman.
"Yes."
She nodded before flying towards the hangar. Everyone followed after her, with Robin hanging close to Batman gesturing and talking. Seeming to forget that I was behind them, Batman lifted his hand and ruffled Dick's hair. I smiled and sped up to pass them, enjoying the soft curse Batman mumbled out. Robin laughed.
Walking up the ramp, I slipped past Percy and into my seat. Everyone else did the same, leaving Percy and Batman to stand side by side, awkwardly waiting for Megan to realize there were not enough seats.
After several beats, Percy asked, "Where should I sit?"
I heard Megan's hand hit her head. "Hello Megan." The Bioship shifted, forming two chairs: one next to Robin, which Batman took, and one beside Wally. The hanger door opened and Megan guided us out into the open sky. My eyes scanned the horizon. I shifted my waterpack, never taking my gaze away from the windshield. There is no doubt going to be-
A bright flash blinded me as lightning forced the Bioship into a spin. One hand dug into the seat as the other rubbed at my eyes. Just as I expected, Zeus was going to throw a tantrum.
"What the heck was that?!" Artemis asked. I laughed, but muffled it as a cough. Yet another instance of them censoring themselves around me.
"Most likely heat lightning. No storms on the radar." Robin said, looking at a screen.
I sighed and looked back at Percy. "I suspect that this will be a turbulent flight." The look hardened into a glare when I realized she was looking at me. She made no comment, electing to close her eyes and tighten her hold on her seat.
"What's wrong babe, flying reminding you of when you fell from heaven?" Wally leaned closer to Percy. I shifted my glare to him. He rested a hand on her arm. "Hey, are you okay?"
"He's going to kill me," she mumbled.
"You know he will not so suck it up." I looked back to the sky. Percy's glare crawled over my skin and hung like an albatross around my neck. I swallowed. A horrible feeling was settling in my gut.
"We're almost there." Megan's voice reaffirmed what I could see. We sailed over the Greek countryside at a rapid pace, drawing closer to cities and ancient monuments.
"Prepare for landing," Batman said. He stood up and walked over to me, typing something in on the console in front of me. I frowned, trying to read the words, but they disappeared before I could figure out what they were.
In the background, Percy made a comment to which Connor replied in his normal clipped tone. I felt the Bioship shudder and it touched down, a near silent hiss as the ramp extended. I stood and walked out. The sight I was met with solidified the feeling I had. Something horrible happened. Something horrible involving Percy. Police tape strung through the remains of the ruins, and countless bloodstains could be spotted. People died here.
Teenagers died here.
"What are we looking for?" Artemis asked.
"Any sign of who might have caused this." Batman stepped past me, kneeling next to a large chunk of rubble, which appeared to have been ripped straight out of the ground.
Mind link established.
This is still so odd to me. Percy's voice rang through my mind.
You'll get used to it. Robin though, moving next to Batman.
Percy picked her way through the rubble. A haunted look appeared in her eyes as her eyes caught on a particularly large stain."Batman, before we return to base, may I visit a temple?"
"Is it important?" he asked, voice gruff.
"Very much so."
"Yes, I assume Aqualad will-"
I interrupted Batman. "I will not be accompanying her, I am much better utilized here." I pressed my lips together and bent down. "What is this?" I asked to no one. I reached my arm under a piece of rubble, and scooped the perfectly round piece off of the ground. A hole ran through it. A trident was painted on it. A little bit away, a torn leather cord laid on the ground. I grabbed it and stood up. A camp necklace.
Percy's camp necklace, I realized. I hadn't seen her wear it once since she returned, and it was something she rarely took off.
"I- I am going to the temple now," Percy said. She turned and walked away with quick, hurried steps. Batman yelled at her to stop, but she kept walking. It didn't escape my notice how her hands shook, or how she shoved them into her hands and sped up to quickly escape our sight.
I frowned, but shook it off. I would not doubt that she is going to visit a temple to her father. For what reason, I know not but there are other matters at hand.
For now, I had a few more things to find.
I am tired and my mom and grandma came to visit me. so...human interaction YAY!
not even sarcastic, this is the first time I've actually been able to touch anyone.
See yah
