Chapter 10
Heh heh... I think you might be able to tell that my writing style has changed/improved in this chapter, because I left this book for ages (not that you'll know), concentrating instead on my other fanfic(s), in which I have proceeded to improve my grammar and test out new techniques, also making the transition between First Person to Third Person purely for the sole reason that it seems more professional and also easier, as the author knows everything, and I can explain things in more detail (Sorry, did I seem protessional there? I didn't mean to :3). It will forever bug me, for I am OCD, but I will have to put up with it. *dramatic sigh with one hand on forehead* But I'll be continuing this because I've suddenly got more interested in it for no apparent reason, so maybe it'll be out sooner than I think? Arghh, I don't even know what I'm doing anymore! My sleep-deprived brain has gone derp mode °3·
But in my behind the scenes stories (which you'll hopefully see someday if I stop being lazy and continue writing them), they're all First Person, and will stay that way because I want them to stay more consistent than Pixels, Voxels, and Vectors, through which I changed from First to Third, and that annoyed me. It had to be done...
Right, sorry for ranting a little. But here's a chapter! (Uh, this is really strange. As I write this it's currently 17/04/14 (English date) at 10:55pm, and you guys don't even know of this book's existence- let alone see this chapter!)
(Martyn's POV)
I woke up, my eyes still closed with a smile on my face. When winter arrived, and Inthelittlefrost took over, my emotions got all out of whack and I could barely understand anything. It happens every year, and sometimes I hurt Toby, which is why I tend to stay away from him in the cold season. But now everything has settled, per say, I'm basically back to normal with the exception of the wintery colour scheme. I opened my eyes, my back aching from sleeping sitting up, and to my surprise saw Toby, asleep on the ground with Infinity next to him. This was bizarre for me, to say the least. I could travel slightly faster for longer due to my magic, but my friend was normal, yet got here soon after me. But maybe there were secrets he was keeping from me, just as I hid the fact that I was an elf until now. Maybe I don't know Toby as well as I thought... he could be a completely different person to the one I've known and grown to love.
(NO. No Sototallylittlewood intended. Just friendly/brotherly love, okay you derps? Love y'all! (Once again, friendly love (or is it?! (oh look, I'm having some fun bracket-ception here (such lel (dis is getting out of hand! (halp! (I can't stop! (I think I'm done (Maybe. (Nope! Okay, I'm done now.)))))))))) Oh my muffins! So many brackets! Plz halp, I'm gonna explode! *explodes into rainbows and muffins*)
I nudged my friend awake. "Hey Toby."
He backed away a little, a worried expression on his face. "Are you back to kind of normal?"
"Yeah, don't worry. By the way, how did you get here so fast?"
"What d'you mean? I only came a short while after you..." He replied, edging closer, but not too close for I was cold and he would be too.
"As an elf I have magic on my side to make me quicker and have more stamina. So in theory, I should've been waiting here for days, but instead only a few hours passed."
"You said it would take over three days travel to get here... but we made it in around two?"
"Over three days for any normal human. For me, only one day, if that. So you shouldn't be here unless there's something magical about you...?" I thought about all the time I'd spent with him, scanning my memories to see if there was anything odd about him, until I reached the recent event where he turned, then went back to normal and the wound healed up.
"Are you saying I'm weird?" He said jokingly, with a smile.
"Wait... Toby, how did you turn un-zombified, and your shoulder heal?"
He paled, looking away, and avoiding glancing at Infinity. "I... I'd rather not talk about it..."
I stood up, slowly shaking my head. "Okay... well, shall we go and find the thaumic shrine?"
Toby seemed thankful for not asking any more questions, rising to his feet as well, while I gently picked up Infinity. "Sure. Let's do this!"
Together we walked around the ruined castle, my friend taking in it's magnificent design even though it was reduced to just ruins. I was remembering all the times that I spent in the forest quarter, no older than ten, staring up at the castle with awe, and wondering who lived there. Then I froze mid-step, realising something else. One of the many days I spent in the forest, I looked up at a high window, and saw a girl about my age up there, staring wistfully down at the ground. She noticed me, and waved with a smile, and I couldn't help but return both, amazed by how beautiful she was. Her long, silvery hair shone in the sunlight, rippling in the gentle breeze. Even from the ground, with the help of my enhanced elven vision, I could tell that her eyes were a sea-blue, but never seemed to stay the same colour, always changing shades and adding little highlights of other colours, much like water. She had tanned skin, almost like the golden sand on a beach, and she was just perfect in every way. (I've finally given her a description! Yay me! After ten chapters... uh... sorry...) Little did I know that was the princess... and that princess is Infinity... I wondered why she looked so familiar when I first saw her, and instantly fell in love. So cliché, love at first sight.
"Uh, hello? Anyone home? You've been standing there with your mouth open for at least ten minutes now." Toby asked, waving his hand in front of my face.
"Oh, um, sorry. Just getting caught up I'm memories of this place..." I mumbled apologetically, continuing with a brisk pace.
I heard Toby jog to catch up with me. "But you said that the Kingdom was wiped out thousands of years ago?"
"Yeah... it's been a long time..." I replied, absentmindedly running one hand along the carved wall decorations, the once-bright paint faded and cracking.
"Hold on! Are you saying that you're thousands of years old? You look about twenty-something!" He exclaimed, disbelieving.
"Um... yeah... elves age slower than humans, and live longer, especially with the aid of magic. But I'm considered pretty young, some elves can live for tens of thousands of years, like the King and Queen."
"What the Nether... that's weird. So what about... dwarves? How long is their lifespan?"
"Jeez, I feel like I'm back in school taking a science test!" I replied with a laugh as we reached the ruined throne room, where two thrones stood tall and proud, even after all these years. "Dwarves live for several hundred years."
"What about Rythian? Didn't he say he was... an Enderborn or something?" He asked inquisitively, all the while taking in his surroundings with wide eyes.
"He's the only one, and technically a Prince. Rythian is the Queen of the End's son."
"Prince? Queen of the end?!"
"The Enderdragon." I clarified. "And because he's the only one no-one knows how long his species will live."
"Okay. By the way, where are we going? You seem to have been examining the same spot for ages..."
I stopped walking with a frown. "It... it should've been here..."
"What? What should have?" Toby said, urgency rising.
"The button- oh no."
Something was wrong. Something was badly wrong. Where the stone button should've been, camouflaged in an intricate pattern that stretched up the now-crumbling wall, was a gap. The brick it was placed on was gone, and the redstone and pistons used to work the secret door were clearly visible for all to see. Toby peered inside, while I began to panic. Only Royalty and their closest guards knew about the passage leading to the shrine, and it held great power, which, if put in the wrong hands, could be fatal to the whole of Tekkitopia.
"What is this?" My friend pointed with his thumb to the hole in the wall. (BRING ON THE WALL! Nope? Just me? Maybe my mum? ...I am not sorry for that! *runs away laughing like a maniac*)
"It's a secret passage. Well, it was supposed to be a secret, anyway. Only Royals and their closest guards knew about it."
He raised an eyebrow. "And how do you know about it then?"
I gave a sheepish grin. "I was the Princess' personal guard..."
"You?! No way!" Toby began to laugh. "But wait, didn't you say that Infinity was..."
"Yea~h..." I replied awkwardly, and a long silence followed. Then I remembered something else. "Oh snap. We should get tooled up. And I know exactly where to go..."
