Twenty-Six

I stood staring at Asada for what felt like hours. Her silver eyes bouncing back and forth between mine. Her hand attached to my arm as if it was super glued there. The electricity still rushing through my veins, growing stronger the longer she stayed. I wanted to run away but it felt like I was in a trance, my vision blurry as flashbacks of the ocean begin to occur. I could imagine myself swimming through the water the fish passing by as I followed the girl with the pink fin. Could she be that girl?

She squeezes my arm tighter before yanking me into the kitchen through a tiny little hallway and out the back door. We burst through the door like a rapid-fire finally finding its fuel source. Once we were in the Washington air Asada let go of my arm. I still have no clue who this girl was but somehow she felt familiar to me. Even if it wasn't anything to do with her running into me in the store the other day. How did Gage know her so well, did they have a thing at one time? My heart began pounding faster as my brain thumbs through more ideas of Gage and Asada together.

Asada looked around tentatively making sure no one was around. Her eyes staring into mine so hard I swear she could see my soul. My body felt numb my arms tingling where her hand had been before. Tiny bruises beginning to form on the surface of my skin.

"Who are you?" she seemed angry, a slight accent taking hold of her words as she spoke. I couldn't tell where it was from though. My mind drifting off into what she was saying more so than thinking of a response. She snapped her fingers in front of my face a couple of times before repeating her question.

"Olyvya," I mumbled shocked that anything came out of my mouth at all. Asada had cheekbones that could slice through metal and a jawline so sharp it was like razor blades. She looks like a girl out of a magazine. Someone who should be modeling clothes on a runway. Her blonde hair fell just barely over her shoulders and it was pulled back with a black headband that matched her apron. She wore blue jeans with a white t-shirt that said the name of the diner on it.

"When did you decide to just show up to my town without informing me?" she took a step back kicking up the gravel with her Nikes. What did she mean? This girl had the audacity to run into me at the supermarket with my friend and not even apologize and now she was going to interrogate me about moving to her town. I shook my head, this was ridiculous and I was not going to stand for it.

"Who said it was your town and I couldn't live here?" I felt the blood boiling in my veins, the bruise beginning to throb as it continued to form on my forearm. I can hear my heartbeat in my ears as I quickly begin to lose control of my temper. She rolled her eyes before folding her arms across her chest.

"I'm Asada," she stated as if that meant anything to me at all. I wasn't from here I didn't know who Asada was and what was so special about her, all I knew about her was she was a bitch. Way too rushed through her life to turn around and apologize to someone she had just run into. Someone so self-centered that they thought they owned an entire town.

"I have to get back to dinner so I better be going." I tried to push past her to get back to the table my family was sitting at. She grabbed my arm once more turning me on my heel to look at her. She stared at me like she was reading my mind. I suddenly felt uncomfortable my face flushing a light red as I watched her focus on every detail of my face. Something about this girl was off. I pulled my arm from her grasp before entering the employee entrance heading back into the dining room.

Asada chases me reaching to grab me for the third time. I twisted out of her reach before turning around nearly shouting at her.

"Leave me alone!" I yelled out, loud enough for a few tables to bring their attention to us. I could feel my face blushing even more than before and all I wanted to do right now was hide and get away from Asada. She shook her head as if I was insane.

"You don't know do you?" another waitress rushed over tapping Asada on the shoulder before whispering something in her ear. I turned to look at the kitchen as an angry Chef rang the bell 3 times. She let out a huff of air blowing some of the baby hairs that had fallen loose from her headband. She turned to look at me one more time before taking a few steps towards the window.

"Don't know what?" my mind begged for her to stay, to explain what she had meant. But every other part of my body bags for her to go away. She took a couple more steps backward checking to make sure no one was behind her.

"I'll be in touch." Asada quickly rushed off to grab the few plates that the angry Chef had been pestering her about. She rushes them to the appropriate table setting them down quickly apologizing to the customers waiting. I stood there dumbfounded for what felt like forever before Sammy waived at me to get my attention. I shook my head pulling myself from the trance that I had unexplainably been in.

My family greeted me once I was back at the table my eyes searching the restaurant for any sign of Asada. I wanted to know what she was talking about. What information could she possibly have that would help me? She didn't even know me or anything about me. And there was no way she knew anything about the pink mermaid in the ocean.
