Forty-Two

Gage's POV

I sat in the kitchen, looking down at the table. My head was throbbing, thoughts of the ocean were rushing through my brain. I was going insane. I couldn't remember anything from the last few days even though I had told Olyvya I did. Poor sweet Olyvya risked her life to save me and I couldn't even remember it to thank her properly. I slammed my fist on the table for what felt like the umpteenth time today. The bottom of it red and a slow bruise slowly starting to form.

I jumped from the chair I was sitting in, sending it flying across the floor until it crashed. How could I let Asada take me like that? I thought we were overplaying these childish games. I wanted to scream, I wanted to punch something, I wanted to not feel so pathetic for letting somebody capture me so easily. But maybe I could fix that too if only I remembered.

I make my way towards the pantry, searching for anything to eat. Sammy had gone out and bought me groceries, with her own money, and I was lousy. I barely thanked her and only after Olyvya mentioned I needed to. I flung the door open grabbing a bag of chips at random. Slamming it shut the wood creaked under the force. Quickly I opened another cabinet pulling out a short glass. Then digging through the freezer I found the bottle of whiskey.

Placing it on the counter the glass echoing through the house as it hits the table. I needed to calm down, no, I needed a drink. I grab the items before rushing down to the living room. This was the last place we had really spent any good time with each other. The girls and I, sat down here laughing and joking as the movie played in the background. The movie was still in the DVD player. I flipped the tv on, quickly navigating my way to the movie once again. I poured myself a drink, hitting the play button, and then sitting back to enjoy or at least try to enjoy the last thing we had watched together.

Ripping the bag opened, the loud music blaring in the background muffling anything and everything else out. I grabbed my drink once more swirling the golden liquid around the glass before bringing it to my lips and gulping the fiery drink. Placing the glass back on the table I filled it up on more time, this time babysitting it for a few moments, taking sips here and there.

At about halfway through the movie I found myself snoozing off. The alcohol taking over my body, my head feeling tingly and the emotions drifting away. The drink sat carefully on the table, a tiny amount of liquid still kissing the bottom of the glass. I lean forward just about to turn the tv off when the doorbell rings. I groan to myself, my eyes traveling up the stairs carefully watching the front door. I searched the room looking for any sort of weapon. I wasn't going to let that blonde demon capture me again.

After grabbing a pool stick from the table I slowly make my way up the stairs, listening for a sound. I could hear voices talking outside the door. Rambling on about something that didn't seem important but the closer I drew the quieter they got. One of the voices let out a loud shush before both stopped completely. I froze in my tracks. How did they know I was close?

The doorbell rings again, my skin crawling as I launch off the ground out of fear. Silently cursing myself I regain my composure before searching the peephole for whoever might be out there. My shoulders dropped when I finally realized who it was. I dropped the pool cue to the ground as it clattered against the wood before rolling to the edge of the hallway. I flung the door open, leaning on it to help keep my balance.

"Olyvya, is it Saturday already?" I question, my words slightly slurred. The two girls look between each other before their eyes landed on me.

"Saturday? No you dimwit we were just here," Sammy folds her arms before putting past me to enter my house. I stumble under her force before I focused on Olyvya. The alcohol effects draining away, my mind too focused on her eyes to be drunk. She followed suit entering my home the same way Sammy had, but instead of pushing me she stopped. Her eyes watching me intently.

"Are you okay Gage?" My heart fluttered when she said my name, I brought my hand to my chest begging them to stop. I nodded my head closing the door behind her.

"I'm fine," I groan heading back towards the living room. Sammy and Olyvya followed me, their feet much quieter than mine against the stairs. "What are you two doing back so early?" I plop back down on the couch waiting for them to answer.

The two girls looked between each other before Olyvya came to sit beside me, her hand placed on my hand. I wanted to move it, but something told me to keep it there. She had a calming effect on me, my body washing away the anger and replacing it was a much better emotion... happiness. I shook my head, this wasn't how a man was supposed to feel. I tried to stiffen myself up, Olyvya never looked away from me though. My heart continued to race in my chest, my brain not really interested in why they were here, but why they left in the first place. Why would Olyvya ever leave, and what did I need to do to make sure she never did again?

"We need your help," Olyvya mumble, her eyes taking over my brain once again. Those pretty blue eyes. I shook my head, a slight fog still taking over. What did she just say?
