Forty-Five

"Hide!"

Sammy and I rush through the kitchen heading for the hallway. We needed to find a room to hide in, close enough that we could still hear what was going on, but far enough we were out of danger. A place where we had an escape route.

"I know a spot," Sammy whispers leading me down the stairs towards the living room instead of the hallway to the bedrooms. I follow her the best I can without stumbling. She quickly opens the door to a closet that held nothing but a few billiards cues. We pressed ourselves close together, closing the door behind us.

The knocks came again.

Sammy and I listen as Gage makes his way to the door. We listen closely, our breathing heavy. Holding my hand to cover my mouth I close my eyes begging for anything to calm me down. I needed to focus, hopefully this would just be a prank or some random kid asking for money. Maybe the pizza man saw our instagram and he is coming to fight because we didn't use their services? I shook my head, I was such an idiot.

Once the door was open, Sammy shot me a look, her finger held over her mouth reminding me to be quiet. I nod my head, I could feel the tears welling up in the corners of my eyes. I didn't even know what I was hiding from or if I should be.

"Hey Gage, what are you up to tonight?" A woman's voice came through the doorway. I couldn't recognize whose it was, or if I even knew the voice. Maybe he had a sister and she was stopping by to surprise him?

"Just making some pizza and drinking what about you?" Gage seems tense, his voice louder than normal. It was almost as if he was trying to let us hear him. I praised him mentally.

"May I come in?" The woman's voice came once again. My body trembles from fear. Why was she insisting on hanging out? Who was it?

"Asada, I just don't think that is a good idea, we aren't together anymore and we shouldn't be hanging out because of it," Gage's words were very clear, my heart stopped dead when he said her name. I knew the instagram was a bad idea. Sammy's eyes were the size of saucers, and I could practically hear her heart beating right out of her chest.

"But Gage, why can't we be friends?" She seemed like she was trying to force herself on him. I could just imagine her running her fingers along his chest trying to distract him. My heart raced, the jealousy of her building up in my chest. I wanted to scream, I wanted to punch her repeatedly, and I wanted to know why she was harassing me.

"Asada you need to leave please," Gage seemed forceful too, I could almost imagine him pushing her out the door and slamming it in her face. That's what I wanted him to do. Sammy slowly slides down the wall towards the floor. I can feel her shaking against me as she sits down. I wanted to follow her and sit as well but there was simply not enough room.

"Don't be like that, just spend a little time with me," I heard the door close. Had Gage gotten rid of her? Was Asada now roaming around the place. "Doesn't everything seem a little off to you? Like it was put together by a stranger?" Asada must have known the house was destroyed. I mean she was the one who had kidnapped Gage in the first place. Did she do that alone or did she have help?

"Nope, the same as it has always been," Gage seemed confident. I wondered why he had said this, he too knew the house had been destroyed, even if he didn't see it. He was there when she destroyed it, there was no way he didn't remember.

I heard Asada chuckle, their feet echoing in the hallway to the kitchen now. They were standing right over us. I could sense Asada, my body tingling the closer she got to the closet. I wonder if she knew I was there, if she could feel the tingling too.

My heart was pounding. My eyes closed, the closet feeling much bigger than it actually was. I felt like she was so close, and it sounded like she was. Gage's voice was much louder now, he was defiantly closer to the closet than before.

"How about we play a game of pool?" Asada's voice was smooth, silky almost. I shook my head as if she could see that. I silently pray that they don't open the closet. Whatever Gage does he needs to make sure she doesn't come too close to this closet. My body was on fire now, it felt like she was just outside the door. The tingles almost unbearable like electricity kissing my skin.

"No, it's really late Asada I think you need to go," Gage was doing the best he could. He needed to get her out of here. She wasn't listening though.

"Gage, sweetie," She paused for a moment, "don't kick me out now, it's cold outside and I"m lonely, you know how I get when I get lonely," Her voice was quite seductive now. I wanted to burst out of the closet and strangle her. I wasn't sure what Gage and I were, but I felt we were close enough to something that she had no right to do that. She had her chance.

"Get out!" Gage shouts, his voice louder than I'd ever heard before. His scream echoing through the house. I could feel Asada rushing towards the door, the tingles fading. The hair on my arm settles. I can hear the front door open as she steps out onto the front porch.

"I know she is in there, bring her to me by tomorrow at sunset or she and you will regret it," My breath hitched in my throat. "She knows where to find me, Goodbye Olyvya,"
