Day 1
Prompt: April Fools
"Why do they have to do this every year?" Kai complained, collapsing onto a fiery red sofa in his bedroom of the monastery. The energetic ninja's sister sat beside him, rolling her eyes like waves at his dramatic antics.
"How bad could tomorrow possibly go?" She asked, completely oblivious. Kai sat up straight and stared at her, shock burning in his eyes.
"Tomorrow," he pointed a finger to a calendar across the room, "is April fool's day! EVERYTHING'S going to go wrong!"
"The guys aren't THAT insane. I'm sure they'll just do some stupid classic jokes," Nya protested.
"You haven't been here on April Fool's day before. You wouldn't know." It took Nya a moment to realize the truth in this statement. In the past years she had spent with the ninja, she'd always been away on the first day of the rainiest month.
"Alright. I'll stay here tomorrow and see for myself how bad it is. If I stay here the whole day, you have to pay me $20," she retorted, smirking. How many bad things could happen in one day?
"Deal. It's not like you're going to survive their pranks anyway. You're not an expert prank avoider like me." Kai rose from the sofa and struck a confident pose with his hands resting on his hips. Nya mirrored him, determination flickering in her eyes.
"Goodnight, brother." A bit of evil tinted her smile as she exited the bedroom and slid the door shut behind her.
"AHHHHHHH!" The water ninja awoke to her room completely trashed. The curtains were ripped, her closet had been stripped of its components that now laid across the floor, and gum was stuck to every wall with unrivaled strength. She instantly lifted her head off the pillow and leaned forward, surveying the rest of her surroundings. Upon second glance, she noticed that her entire arsenal was stuck to a wooden board with hot glue. She squinted her ocean blue eyes to read a note pinned next to them. Lloyd's handwriting spelled out Good luck defeating us now. Anger began to pulse through the water ninja's veins, but she remembered the deal. She locked away her rage and took a deep breath before standing up and going to her bathroom to get ready. As soon as she entered the bathroom, though, she noticed tape covering the mirrors and her toothbrush caught up in the bounds of the duct tape. A sigh escaped her lips before her palm collided with her forehead in frustration. It was going to be a hard day.
"Lunch is served!" A familiar voice called from the kitchen, signaling that it was time to eat. Nya tied her black hair back into a ponytail and emerged from her bedroom. She stole a glance at her watch and realized it was already 1:00. She rushed over to the table and saw there were six plates with hot dogs set upon them for each of the ninja. Nya slid into her usual seat, next to Kai and across from Cole. Jay, the one who had called her to eat, retrieved ketchup from the fridge as each of the other ninja arrived and Lloyd searched the other side of the fridge for mustard. Zane sat down without hesitation, although Cole scanned the room nervously before taking his usual seat, as if worried a serial killer would jump out at any moment. The black-haired ninja assumed Kai had stayed behind in his room.
"I found the mustard, Jay!" Lloyd alerted his friend, spinning around so he was facing Jay.
"And I have the ketchup!" The energetic ninja exclaimed. The pair or pranksters walked over to the table to squirt out the ketchup and mustard onto each hotdog, starting at Nya and Cole's end of the table.
Suddenly, all Nya could see was red, and she heard the screams of her teammates and the howling laughter of Jay and Lloyd. She felt her way around the kitchen, searching for the sink. She collided with the stove, and her "oof" earned a laugh from the pranking duo. She ran her hand along the countertops until she reached the sink, where she washed her face. When she spun around, everyone else was gone, and Lloyd and Jay were planning their next prank.
Nya had retreated to her room to read and finish her hotdog after the ketchup incident, but she was interrupted by more commotion after less than an hour.
"Another prank," she sighed. Tossing her book aside, she pulled the blankets over her head and groaned.
"Twenty dollars can buy me a new book," she reminded herself, trying to stay focused. She made a decision to stay in her room and read. They couldn't attack her in her own room. Maybe they'd go after Cole or Zane instead.
After a few minutes of returning to reading, a creeeeeak came from behind her. She did a 180, tossing her book in the process, to face Lloyd and Jay, who were holding balloons full of food dye.
"You are not staining my carpet!" She exclaimed angrily, rushing over to the wooden board and attempting to pry the weapons off, but it was too late. She felt her back, which was facing the pranksters, being pelted with balloons. She turned her head the best she could, only to see a rainbow of colors covering her midnight-black gi. She glanced up at them to see their arsenal had been used up, and they were making a run for it.
"You'll pay for this!" She protested, sprinting after them. The wooden floors of the hallway groaned at her footsteps hitting them hard. She skidded to a sudden halt, searching for the boys, before noticing green and blue figures in the courtyard. Running after them, she realized they had stopped. She ambushed Jay from behind, knocking him to the ground playfully. She expected him to say something, but she realized it was a blue cardboard cutout. The water ninja jumped up like her life depended on it, and held her fists out like she was ready to attack. Her eyes darted until they landed on another note pinned to the green cardboard cutout. This time, it was Jay's handwriting that announced, We're going to prank Cole and Zane, see you soon :). Water shot down each of the fake figures until the ninja creating it was gasping for air. Between breaths, she reread the note in her head.
"Now I know where they're going...." She realized. With Cole, Zane, her, and Kai, the duo would be outnumbered.
An hour later it was four o'clock, and the most elaborate prank battle in Ninjago was set up. Lloyd and Jay would be searching for Cole and Zane, but Nya would be hiding in the rafters above Cole's room, ready to dump water on them as soon as they entered. Cole would then chase them around until they got away and then they would venture out to the bathroom to get towels and wash off the water. Zane would freeze up the door, trapping them inside. Then Kai would slowly melt the ice, and once it melted, the four would be ready for an ambush with all their trick being used against them.
"Lloyd, let's get Cole first. He still owes me candy." Jay pleaded his friend quietly outside Cole's bedroom door. Lloyd laughed, an evil laugh, before pushing open the door as the two barged in, equipped this time with dodgeballs. Nya sprayed water from her palms, which forcefully rained down onto their head. They screamed, running out of the room in shock. Cole was waiting outside, and sprinted after them with the dodgeballs they had dropped in their getaway, earning more shrieks from each of them. They eventually ended up outside the bathroom, where Cole mysteriously disappeared. They checked to see if the coast was clear before going inside and searching for towels. Without them even noticing, Zane jumped out and created an ice blockade in the open doorframe before rushing off to get the ketchup, mustard, and color balloons.
"Do we have everything?" Zane asked when he and Cole met up with Nya and Kai in the kitchen.
"I have the mustard," Cole announced.
"I have the food dye balloons," Nya added.
"I have the ketchup," Kai bragged, his desire for vengeance apparent.
"And I have the dodgeballs," Zane said proudly. The four pranksters raced back to the bathroom, where Lloyd and Jay were pounding on the door. Kai slowly melted it, and they fled out into the hallway for their lives, bending over and panting.
"This war isn't over yet," Nya declared, smiling like an evil mastermind. Kai, Cole, Zane, and Nya held up their weapons, and Lloyd and Jay ran, chasing after them.
"You owe me one hundred bucks," Nya reminded Kai snarkily, half asleep. The six had battled with pillows, mustard, dodgeballs, elemental powers, ketchup, and food dye balloons until they all collapsed, lacking energy on the living room floor.
"The bet was $20, sis," Kai reminded her.
"Yeah but without me, you wouldn't have gotten revenge."
"We all set this up to prank you. It's never really this bad." Kai revealed, seconds away from drifting off.
"It will be next year, when I'm the prankster."
"I'm sure it will, sis," Kai yawned, before snores echoed throughout the living room.
"You still owe me twenty bucks."
