Thinking that I am safe,  I lie down for the night...

Unable to achieve deep sleep, I toss and turn...

A subtle noise catches my attention, I lie quietly trying to concentrate on the sound...

Slow and steady...

In rhythm...

Thump thump...

Thump thump...

Thump thump...

I want to get up and take a look around, but I keep still and listen...

It is getting louder and louder...

Increasing in rate...

Thump thump, Thump thump...

Thump thump, Thump thump...

Thump thump, Thump thump...

I focus...

My chest is rising and falling in time with the sound that is surrounding me...

Thump thump, Thump thump...

Thump thump, Thump thump...

I then realize that I am listening to my heart...

I drift off to sleep...
