"Here it is! Loretto Chapel!" Jack waved an arm in the direction of the chapel where a small crowd accumulated at the entrance.

Katherine took a moment to take in the sight of the chapel. It was beautiful, definitely, but just like any other chapel she had seen. Sure, there were Spanish accents to the chapel that others lacked, but it seemed like every typical Roman Catholic church.

When Katherine voiced her opinion aloud, Jack took her hand and led her towards the chapel, a crooked grin on his face. "Just you wait, Ace. You ain't seen nothin', yet."

"I'll have to take your word for it," Katherine responded, watching as Jack led her into the group in front of the chapel. "Jack, what are we doing?"

Jack shushed her, turning to face her. "Keep quiet, okay? I'm tryin' to get us out o' payin' to get in."

"Of course you are," Katherine breathed, shaking her head slightly. "By pretending we're with another group?"

"I'm placin' my bets that this is a college group," Jack continued quietly. "We should be able to blend in."

Katherine chuckled softly in amusement, leaning into Jack's side as the group began to move. Katherine held her breath, certain that an employee working the tourist attraction would stop them. However, they successfully entered, and Katherine could see what Jack meant about not seeing anything from the exterior.

From the moment they stepped in, Katherine could see each charming detail. From the spiral staircase to the stained glass. She could see how it was different from other chapels now that she was inside, and she truly did feel as if it was worth the trip.

Jack, however, was watching Katherine. He could see the awe fill her eyes and the way a grin grew on her face. He wasn't aware that she was one to recognize architecture and design, but he did know that she noticed the small details in anything and everything. Katherine was observant; that much was clear.

Neither of them were listening to how the chapel was used to rent out school formals, reunions, or—more commonly—weddings. The two of them were simply paying attention to what caught their attention the most.

Katherine turned to Jack with a wide smile on her face, giving his hand a squeeze. "I stand corrected. You're right, it is beautiful."

"I'm always right."

Katherine gave him a sound that sounded somewhere in between a scoff and a chuckle, but the smile never vanished from her face, even as the group continued through the nave to approach the alter at the front.

By the time their walk through the chapel ended, the sun was just beginning to dip below the buildings of Santa Fe. Katherine turned to Jack, her grin never wavering, "How about we head home?"

"Sounds good ta me, Ace," Jack replied, looking at her with a reflection of her grin.

Katherine was seated on the couch with her laptop, typing away at whatever she was writing. She didn't know what she had been expecting from Jack that morning, because Jack often would surprise her with some action that would simply confuse her. However, she definitely wasn't expecting to feel someone pinch her arm humorously.

"Jack! What the hell?" Katherine expressed, turning from her laptop to face a smirking Jack.

"Where's your green?" Jack asked, seating himself next to Katherine on the couch.

Katherine furrowed her brows, "My green? What are you—oh." It suddenly struck Katherine what he was hinting towards. "It's St. Patrick's Day isn't it?"

"Yep," Jack responded. "Which gives me an excuse to pinch you since you ain't wearin' any green."

Katherine sighed, setting her laptop aside. "Does it really matter? You're the only person I see on a daily basis and vice versa."

"It's a holiday!"

"Says the guy who criticized Christmas." Katherine gave Jack a look of disinterest. "Besides, St. Patrick's Day isn't exactly a holiday worth celebrating. Leprechauns? Clovers? It's ridiculous."

"I thought you had a soft spot for holidays, Ace?"

"I have a soft spot for holidays that make sense," Katherine remarked in response, standing from the couch to stride over to the kitchen. Jack followed her, leaning against the peninsula to gaze at her as she took a bowl and a box of cereal off of the shelves.

"And this one don't make sense?"

"Not at all," Katherine breathed in response, turning to face Jack and leaning against the counter. "Pinching people because of a wardrobe decision? Telling stories about pots of gold at the end of rainbows? Seems pretty illogical to me."

"Only to you," Jack remarked, flashing her a playful smirk before turning away, leaving Katherine to wonder exactly what he meant by those words.

That day started out normal.

It was just like any other day in the house for the Appraisal, but a certain sound caught the attention of both Jack and Katherine: a car engine.

They exchanged a glance before approaching the window next to the front door, looking out to find a car with tinted windows pulling into the house's driveway.

Katherine instantly froze when the door opened and a tall, stern-faced man stepped out, shortly followed by a petite woman.

But Katherine wasn't paying attention to the woman. Instead, her attention landed solely on the man.

The woman—Hannah—rushed to the door of the house, reminding Katherine of what was happening. She hesitantly backed away from the window, her reluctance and slight fear evident on her face which produced confusion in Jack.

Katherine opened the door, face-to-face with Hannah who breathed quietly, "Your father would like to speak to you in private."
