Chapter 7

*Don't start the video yet*

One month later....

"Did you see Evie and Chad on their date? Their so cute together," Some girls talked as they walked down the hall. Doug sighed and turned away from his locker. It was now official. Evie's dating Chad, they had been dating for three weeks.

And, of course, Doug had been avoiding her, for fear of getting hurt again. Therefore, he would go to school, then go to his dorm. He hasn't been going out anymore, and Mal's noticed. So she told Ben to call Doug to try and get them back together.

"I don't know about this Mal," Ben said.

"Ben, they belong together! We have to do something," Mal said.

"Why don't we just let this take it's course? It'll all work out in the end."

"Because I'm not patient enough for that. Now call him!"

"Fine..."

Doug walked into his dorm room and closed the door. Just then his phone rang.

He sighed and sat down on his bed before answering it.

"Hello?" Doug said after pressing the answer button.

"Hey Doug, it's Ben. How's it going?" Ben asked.

"Oh, hi Ben. I appreciate your call, it means a lot and all," Doug sang.

"Do you have a minute?" Ben asked.

"Yeah, I got a minute," Doug nodded.

"How's thing's going? What do you want to talk about?"

"You and me can talk, about anything you want. As long as she ain't in it," Doug said talking about Evie.

"Say, it's been at least a month, since you've had any fun," Ben said.

"Buddy, I'll admit it," Doug said.

"So, you want to go somewhere?"

"Yeah, I'm into going out. Think I'm ready for a crowd, as long as she ain't in it," Doug said. "Don't wanna hear her name, I don't wanna see her face I swear."

Ben sighed and looked at Mal as he shook his head. "I know it's gonna hurt if I run into her somewhere."

"We can hit that place, down by the Interstate, out past the kingdom limits," Ben said.

"Hang out all night long, hear a country song, long as she ain't in it," Doug said.

"Mal, can you help?" Ben turned to his girlfriend.

Mal sighed and took the phone. "Doug, it's not you're fault."

"Mal?"

"Yes, it's Mal. Now you need to stop moping around."

"I'm not moping around?"

"Really? When was the last time you went out?"

"Not too long ago...."

"The last time you went out with with Evie, wasn't it?"

"I don't want to talk about this Mal."

"Doug, you're going to have to talk about it and see her sometime."

Doug shook his head. "Don't wanna hear her name, I don't wanna see her face, I swear. I know it's gonna hurt if I run into her somewhere."

"Doug..." Mal said.

"I can drink and I can dance. I can party, I can laugh. But no matter how you spin it," Doug said.

Mal and Ben looked at each other and Mal sighed.

"Everything has change, my life won't be the same..... As long as she ain't in it," Doug sang. "As long as she ain't in it...."

"We can help," Mal said.

"I'm sorry guys, but I don't want any help. I don't want anything. Thanks for calling, bye," Doug said and hung up.

"Doug, wait!" Mal said but she was too late. She groaned and sat on Ben's bed.

"So... What now?" Ben asked and Mal thought for a moment.

"Now, now we're gonna set Doug up on a blind date."

"Seriously? Who's gonna go out with a guy who's not over his ex-girlfriend?"

"His ex-girlfriend."

"Wait, you're setting him up on a blind date with... Evie?"

"Exactly," Mal smiled and walked out of the room.

"I have a feeling this is gonna end badly," Ben shook his head and followed his girlfriend.
