The mask of popularity part 3
Last part!! Enjoy :)
"And this is your room."
Rainbow's uncle, Strike, turned the doorknob and pushed open the wooden door. He, followed by Rainbow Dash and Applejack, walked in. Rainbow and Applejack looked around. It was a pretty decent room. It was pretty big and had two windows. The walls were a pale blue. There were shelves on the bed side of the room for Rainbow to put whatever she wanted up there. The girls could see a huge closet with a white painted wooden door. In the corner was a white desk and baby blue blue swivel chair. There was a full size bed with white pillows and comforter with many shades of blue. The bed looked comfy. There was a dark blue dresser beside the the window with a large mirror attached to it. The floor was carpet as well.
"So, do you like it, Rainbow?." Strike asked, looking at his niece for her reaction.
Rainbow smiled and looked at him.
"Yeah. It's cool. I'll probably add some stuff and make it way cooler."
"It's your room." Strike said. "So don't be afraid to spice it up with whatever you want to add."
He sighed in content.
"Well, um, I'm gonna leave you girls to unpack Rainbow's stuff. I'm ordering pizza for dinner. You girls ok with cheese??."
Applejack and Rainbow nodded. Strike ruffled Rainbow's hair, making Rainbow giggle.
"I love you, Rain." Strike said, adoration in his voice.
Rainbow looked up at her uncle. She smiled.
"I love you, too, Uncle Strike."
"Just call me Strike." He said. "You've known me long enough to have that privilege."
The man gave Rainbow a kiss on the top of her head and patted her head gently before walking out of the room. He closed the door behind him. Rainbow and Applejack looked around the room once more.
"Where do we start??." Applejack asked, not anyone in particular.
Rainbow looked at the two suitcases and book-bag full of clothes and personal belongings she had brought.
"Well I guess we could start by putting my clothes away. Hope you don't mind seeing my bras and underwear."
Rainbow laid her suitcase flat. She and Applejack knelt down and Rainbow Dash unzipped and opened the suitcase.
"Let's separate the clothes first." She said. "It'll make it easier to put them into their own drawer and the closet."
Rainbow and Applejack began the task of separating the shorts, the long pants, the shorts, the skirts, the long sleeved shirts, the short sleeves shirts, the undershirts, the bras, and underwear, and Rainbow's sports uniform.
Applejack folded the t-shirt in her hands. She carefully laid it on the previous shirt she had folded. She was so concentrated, she didn't notice Rainbow had stopped until she glanced up at her friend. She paused when she saw the forlorn expression on Rainbow's face. She looked to be in deep thought and those thoughts were troubling her.
"Rainbow??." Applejack said gently.
Rainbow seemed to be snapped out of whatever other world she was in. She blinked and quickly looked up at Applejack.
"You ok?." Applejack asked.
Rainbow simply nodded without a verbal reply or eye contact and went back to the task at hand. Applejack watched her for a moment. Rainbow seemed to go quicker, while she sorted out the clothing, as if Rainbow was actively trying to keep herself busy. Applejack knew something was up. She couldn't blame her.
Applejack folded and sorted a pair of denim jeans. The girls finished up the sorting. They then began to put all the sorted clothes away, the uniforms, jackets, and shirts in the closet. The pants, bras, underwear, shorts, and socks would go into the dresser drawers.
Rainbow and Applejack worked quietly and quickly. Only a few words came from Rainbow Dash, when Applejack would ask where she wanted a certain clothing to go. But that was it. By the time they were finished with the clothes, the girls decided to take a break.
Rainbow and Applejack relaxed and sat back. Applejack stretched her arms out, releasing some of the tension in her joints.
"Who knew sorting out clothes could make ya so tired." She chuckled.
Rainbow hummed in response. Applejack looked at her friend. Rainbow was staring at the floor, a distant look in her eyes. She seemed to be out of it again. Applejack couldn't take it anymore.
"Rainbow." She said, getting Rainbow's attention.
Rainbow looked at her.
"Yeah?."
"Is somethin' wrong??." AJ asked, knowing fully well the answer.
Rainbow shrugged, looking away. Applejack crawled over to her. She sat down close to her best friend, giving her her full attention.
"Ah'm all ears, RD. Talk when you're ready."
Rainbow sighed. She pulled her legs out of underneath her and pulled her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. She buried her face in her knees. Rainbow was getting more worried as time went by.
"Rainbow. Please talk ta me. What's wrong?."
Rainbow raised her head.
"My life." She hissed.
Applejack flinched at the venom in Rainbow's voice. Rainbow noticed and calmed down. She sighed and looked away.
"I'm sorry, AJ. I didn't mean to snap at you. I just......"
Applejack relaxed and nodded.
"Just what??." She pushed gently.
Rainbow sighed.
"I realized just how fake I am." Rainbow said quietly. "I'm a fake."
Applejack's eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.
"What're you talkin' about?. How'd you figure that?."
"I mean I've lied to everyone ever since my mom was killed." She said. "I've been pretending everything's dandy and great. I've fooled everyone into thinking my life is perfect and that I'm perfectly great, but that's far from the truth."
Applejack then remembered why they were at Rainbow's Uncle's house. Oh yeah.
"What do you mean??." She asked cautiously, not sure if she wanted her to answer.
Rainbow shook her head.
"I'm not at all like you think I am." She said. "I'm the complete opposite. I tell people my family is pretty ok. I don't have a family anymore. My parents are gone and I do have a brother but I he's been out of the house since he turned eighteen me he never came back for me, so I know how he feels about me, now."
Applejack clutched her hands together, resisting the urge to reach out and hold Rainbow's hand. Instead she let Rainbow continue her rant.
Rainbow got up. She began to slowly pace around the room.
"And people think I'm cool and laid back and chill. The only reason I'm like that was to hide the fact that I was in to much pain from the bruises my dad gave me all the time and the fact that I have depression. That definitely doesn't help my mood."
"Depression??."
That was a surprise. Rainbow seemed so happy and seemed to not have a care in the world. Depression wasn't what someone thought when they looked at Rainbow Dash. The athletic, beautiful, ball of energy.
Rainbow nodded. She looked down at the floor.
"Yeah." She whispered. "I was diagnosed when I was younger. After my mom passed away, it started to develop. It got worse after my dad became a monster. I've only told Fluttershy."
Applejack felt a little hurt that Rainbow didn't tell her about this before. But she knew there was a reason why. Rainbow never does anything without a reason. Applejack nodded, not saying a word. She let the information store itself into her memory.
Rainbow laughed with no humor.
"Faking being happiness when I really don't care sometimes about anything or anyone. I have to fake it for my team. I can't be a good role model for them if I'm down in the dumps all day and doing what I feel like doing. Nothing. That won't be good. I have to put on a brave face for everyone. The whole school knows me and they expect me to be happy and collected and chill."
She sighed, running her fingers through her hair. She looked exhausted.
"I'm just so tired of it. Nothing is ok, but I have to pretend it is. I have an image to uphold in school. I have to be perfect and that means no talking about my family and hiding the bruises. I have to pretend I know I'm awesome."
"But you are awesome." Applejack said with a grin. "Ah think so."
Rainbow sighed.
"At least one of us thinks so. I don't see it. I know I say stuff and I talk about myself a lot, but I don't believe it myself. I'm not cool or fun or pretty or the best at sports."
Applejack frowned.
"Yes, you are." She said. "You're very talented. I just know that one day you'll get ta the Wonderbolts-."
"No I won't!." Rainbow snapped.
Applejack closed her mouth as Rainbow looked at her with tears in her eyes. Rainbow sniffled and turned her head away, resting her chin on her knees.
"I know I say I'm gonna get into it. I know I said I have skills. But I don't. I'm never getting into the Wonderbolts team. Never."
Rainbow blinked, letting the tears fall.
"My dad was right." She whispered. "I'm not good for anything. I'm not good enough for the Wonderbolts. The captains..... if I try out for the team.... they..."
Rainbow sniffled.
"They'd just laugh at me."
Applejack shook her head at the words.
"No, Rainbow. Listen ta me."
Rainbow looked at her. Applejack's heart clenched at the sight of her usually peppy friend. She reached out her arms.
"C'mere."
Rainbow unwrapped her arms from around her legs and sat up straight. Applejack wrapped her strong arms around Rainbow Dash, pulling her against her. Rainbow leaned against Applejack, her head on Applejack's chest. Applejack sighed quietly.
"You're amazin', Rainbow. Ah believe that with every fiber in mah body. Your dad was wrong. You can succeed in life. This isn't a dead end fir you, RD. Ah know life has never been kind ta you, but you can't let that define yir future. You're stronger than you think. So strong. Ah know that you're gonna be somethin' amazing someday. Ah know it. You just gotta keep goin' and never give up on yourself. Never give up. Ah'll never give up in you. Ah believe in you, Rainbow and ah love you."
Rainbow pulled away from the embrace.
"You do?."
Applejack nodded. "Yeah."
Rainbow smiled and blushed.
"Thanks, AJ. Ah don't know what I'd do without you in my life. Ah love you, too."
Rainbow rubbed the back of her neck.
"Is it bad that I have a small crush on you?." She asked. "You're just so awesome and pretty and amazing. I don't know."
Rainbow looked down at the floor. Applejack was shocked. Was Rainbow serious? She had a crush on her?
"Do you?."
Rainbow nodded shyly, becoming visibly anxious.
"Yeah."
Applejack smiled.
"Good, cuz ah like you a lot. More than just a friend, ah mean."
Rainbow's eyes widened.
"For real?."
Applejack nodded, blushing.
"Yeah."
Rainbow smiled. She took Applejack's arms and wrapped them around her, resting her head back on Applejack's chest. She smiled.
"I like you more than a friend, too. I'm glad you feel the same way. I was too scared to tell you. Especially with my dad. I didn't want to drag you into that life."
Applejack tightened her hold around Rainbow. She rested her chin on Rainbow's head. Her heart fluttered in her chest.
"But he's dealt with. So, after everythin' is settled and court day goes by and when, and only when, you feel comfortable enough..... will you go on a date with me?"
Rainbow giggled. She nodded, a light slush in her cheeks.
"Yeah. I'd love that." She replied.
Applejack smiled, relaxing her body. Her hugged Rainbow Dash, resting her chin on Rainbow's head, Rainbow returning the hug. She exhaled slowly through her nose.
"Don't worry, RD." She said. "You've still got me and the girls. Now you've got chur uncle. You're not alone in the world anymore. Never were, actually. It's all gonna be okay."
"Everything already is."
"Hm?."
She looked down at Rainbow Dash. Rainbow looked up at her, her eyes sparkling, a smile on her face.
"I said everything is already okay. You're here, and there's no place I'd rather be the right here with you."
Applejack blushed.
"Aside from with my mom again."
Applejack heard that and deflated a little. Rainbow's smile and mood faltered. Applejack didn't give her time to ponder in those thoughts. She leaned down and kissed Rainbow's forehead. Rainbow blushed and looked at her. Applejack chuckled.
"Ah understand." She said. "But don't chu fret yir pretty little head about anythin'. Let's just focus on what's happening now."
Rainbow nodded in agreement.
"Alright."
The two went back to what Applejack realized was cuddling. She realized how well Rainbow fit in her arms. The way she felt complete with the other teen so close to her. The feeling of not wanting to leave that position. She was in love.
Applejack's eyes widened at the revelation. She then smiled.
She was in love with Rainbow Dash, even though they do let known each other a couple of days. Wow. What? Were they in a 50's themed romance movie? Love should not be coming this early on in their friendship. Guess they couldn't help themselves.
Applejack loved Rainbow Dash and she would spend every moment she could, reminding Rainbow Dash that she could be loved and that she didn't have to lie and hide how she really felt anymore. Applejack was gonna make it all better for her. One way or another.
The end :)
