The hybrids I call family part 3
Enjoy :)
When Rainbow woke up the next day, she was terrified for a second, not recognizing where she was. It took her a moment to remember everything that had happened the other day. She had a home. Rainbow pulled the sheets back and slowly got out of bed. When her injured foot landed on the floor, pain shot up her leg. Rainbow grimaced. She limped towards the door. She went slow to avoid as much pain as possible. Rainbow opened the door quietly. She poked her head out into the hallway, looking both ways, hoping to spot Applejack. Her sensitive ears picked up some sound down the hall. She followed it down the hall and down the huge flight of steps. It was a bit difficult for her because of her ankle, but she was able. She continued to follow the sound. She looked around as she did. Rainbow had never seen such a big house before. The high ceiling, the large open space and big rooms. It all made her feel so small. Rainbow walked in to what she discovered was a kitchen.
Rainbow smelled something amazing. Her stomach growled immediately. She spotted Applejack. Applejack was over by the stove, her back facing Rainbow. Rainbow was curious as to what she was doing.
"Applejack?" She said.
Applejack quickly turned around. She seemed surprised to see Rainbow.
"Rainbow Dash. Did you just wake up?"
Rainbow nodded. "Mhm. I had to find you. What're you doing?"
Applejack smiled.
"Ah'm cooking breakfast. You hungry?"
Rainbow nodded.
"You wanna go brush your teeth before ya eat?", Applejack asked.
Rainbow nodded. She figured she probably should bathe and freshen up before doing anything else.
Applejack frowned.
"Wait. You came down here all by yourself?"
Rainbow nodded. She started walking towards Applejack. Applejack quickly held up her hands.
"Don't walk on your ankle." She said, hurrying towards Rainbow.
She walked up to her.
"You're suppose to rest it for at least two or three days. Ah'll help ya. If ya need anythin' just ask me. Ah don't want cha to get hurt more. C'mon. Ah just finished making breakfast. We can eat it after your bath, ok?"
Rainbow nodded. Applejack helped her upstairs and to the bathroom. Rainbow used the bathroom and brushed her teeth. Applejack ran her a bath.
"Alright." She said, making sure the water was high enough in the tub.
"Let's get cha in."
She stood up and faced Rainbow.
"Need help or do you got it?"
Rainbow stared at her for a moment.
"Um........"
Rainbow looked away. It was silent. Applejack waited for an answer. When she got none, she spoke up.
"It's alright to ask for help, Rainbow. Nothin' ya be ashamed of. Ah won't judge ya."
Rainbow nodded. Applejack helped her unwrap her ankle. She checked it to see if the swelling had gone down. It was the same as the day before. She'd need to put ice on it today. Applejack helped Rainbow undress and get into the tub. Rainbow smiled at her, sitting in the warm water, her knees against her chest.
"Thanks, Applejack. You're really nice."
Applejack knelt down beside the tub, setting down the body soap.
"Thanks? For what?"
"For helping me and letting me stay over night. You're the first person that's been this kind to me since I became homeless."
Applejack retrieved a hand towel. She dunked it in the water and poured the liquid sweet-smelling soap on it. She started to wash Rainbow, starting with her shoulders and back.
"How long have you been out on the streets?" She asked.
"I think five months." Rainbow answered, slowly waving her hand around in the water.
Applejack nodded slowly. She decided not to ask why she was on the streets. That was a bit more personal.
"Applejack?"
"Mhm?"
"Tell me more about you."
That wasn't really expected. Applejack made eye contact with Rainbow. The hybrid girl looked at her innocently, genuinely interested in her. It made her smile.
"Well, what do you wanna know?" She asked.
"Anything you wanna tell me. So that way, we're not strangers anymore. I know nothing about you or you with me." Rainbow replied with a shrug.
Seemed fair enough. Applejack started off telling her about herself. Her favorite color, her full name. Applejack Smith. She told Rainbow about her family, her siblings and their dad. She told her about her friends, whom would really like Rainbow if they met her.
"So did you sleep good last night?" Applejack asked when she ran out of things to say.
Rainbow nodded.
"Yeah. I've missed sleeping in a bed."
Applejack felt her heart ache for Rainbow. She couldn't imagine having to sleep outside. She didn't comment. Applejack helped Rainbow rinse off. Rainbow gave a sudden and wild shake of her head when Applejack finished rinsing her hair. Drops of water hit Applejack. She held her arms up in surprise, not expecting such a canine behavior from Rainbow Dash.
Rainbow stopped, her hair now messy. She frowned when she saw Applejack covered in water. She giggled.
"Oops."
Applejack chuckled, shaking her arms, flicking the water droplets off.
"It's cool. No harm done. It's just water, anyway."
Rainbow was dried and dressed. Her hair was dried and brushed. Applejack showed her how to use a hairdryer. Rainbow was like a little kid. Curious and silly and she needed assistance with things and she was small and cute. Once dressed, Rainbow looked at herself in the mirror. She smiled. She was wearing one of Applejack's flannel's and jeans. Rainbow wore her own shoes. Dirty, old, and a little broken down sneakers.
"I like it." She stated.
"We'll go shopping later and buy ya new clothes." Applejack said, brushing Rainbow's long hair.
Rainbow turned around and looked at Applejack bewildered look on her face.
"New clothes? Why? Aren't I leaving today?"
Applejack frowned. She averted her eyes.
"Well, ah was kinda hopin' you'd stay for a while. As long as you need."
Rainbow's eyes widened.
"Can I?"
Applejack looked at her. She nodded.
"Of course. Ah have the space and ah really don't want cha to go back out on the streets. Especially with your ankle like that."
Rainbow turned around and looked at her ankle. It had been rewrapped. Applejack was right. She still couldn't walk on it without ending up almost falling flat on her face. It still hurt as well. Rainbow thought about the offer. She really liked this girl. Applejack was so nice and friendly. She cared about her. Rainbow cared about Applejack, too. Applejack was gentle and kind and beautiful and amazing.
Rainbow didn't want to leave. She liked it with Applejack. She realized she didn't feel safe without her around. Applejack made her feel safe and secure.
Rainbow smiled.
"Ok. If you don't mind."
Applejack shook her head.
"Course not. Ah need a new friend in mah life."
Rainbow nodded again, a little more excitedly.
"Yeah. New friend. I like that. I like you."
Applejack giggled. The sound made Rainbow's heart flutter. She felt weird all of the sudden. Applejack smiled at her.
"Well then. It's settled. You're livin' with me."
Rainbow couldn't help her excitement. She squealed and clapping. She had a home.
Yup. Hope you liked it. Comment! :)
