The girl in the window seat
This was a request. You know who you are. Enjoy :) oh and there's something wrong with the italics button, so it was a pain to figure it out which is why it took so long
The subway. One of the busiest means of transportation in Canterlot City. Thousands upon thousands of people took the subway everyday. Either on their way to work or school or just to go downtown, every morning was packed. Five girls were regulars on the the Canterlot subway.
Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Sunset Shimmer and Fluttershy quickly entered the train, chatting and giggling.
Rarity groaned, fussing with her usually perfect hair.
"I hate the rain. It's just simply too much to handle."
Applejack rolled her eyes. The girls headed to where they usually sat. In the back corner of the train. They passed by the same people they saw every day on the subway. Nothing new.
"Oh, c'mon, Rarity. Yir hair looks great as always. Quit chur whinin'." Applejack said. "It really ain't that serious."
"Easy for you to say." Rarity pouted, plopping down in her seat, placing her bag on her lap.
Applejack quickly noticed something. Twilight and Sunset, Pinkie and Fluttershy, Rarity and some random stranger. She was by herself. Applejack huffed and looked for a place to sit. She saw an empty seat. There was a girl sitting by herself at the window seat beside the empty seat. She seemed friendly enough and approachable, so Applejack decided to ask to sit next to her.
She walked up to the girl. She reached out and lightly tapped her on the shoulder, making the girl jump a little.
"Um. Excuse me." Applejack said politely.
The girl turned her head and looked at Applejack. AJ gave her a small smile.
"Sorry if ah scared ya. May ah sit with you?" She said.
The girl nodded and smiled, making her magenta eyes sparkle. Applejack took her bag off her shoulder and sat down in the seat beside the girl, her bag on the floor by her feet. A moment later the subway doors closed and the train pulled away from the platform, beginning its journey. It was very quiet. Then again, it was full of strangers. Why talk to anyone?
Applejack heard the other girls quietly talking to each other, making her feel sort of left out. Applejack just decided to take out her phone. She slipped it out of her hoodie pocket and clicked on the home button, the screen coming to life. 8:15am. As usual they were right on schedule.
Applejack sighed tiredly, shoving her phone in back in her pocket, slumping back in her chair. She turned her head and looked at the girl sitting next to her and looked her up and down. The girl seemed about her age. She had long hair that had all the colors of the rainbow. She had cyan colored skin like the sky. She was wearing a baggy dark blue hoodie and dark blue sweatpants with a pale yellow stream down the side, her hands stuffed into her pockets. The girl's shoulders were sagging a little, her body slouched back against the solid hard seat. Sleep now clouded her eyes, making her look ready to fall asleep at any minute.
Applejack couldn't help but stare. She was quite a sight for sore eyes. A real beauty. Applejack templated in her head on whether or not to talk to her. But what was she going to say? It's not every day you talk to a random stranger on the train. She'd probably weird the girl out. Applejack silently sighed and slouched down in her seat.
Why was she so hopeless at conversation?
Suddenly she felt something light whack her in the back of the head. She jerked her head forward a little, her eyes widening in surprise. Applejack quickly turned around to see who the culprit was. She saw Rarity sitting behind her, arms crossed, giving her a smile.
"Talk to her." She whispered so lowly, Applejack almost couldn't hear her.
Applejack took a glance at the girl she was sitting next to. The girl had her phone out, doing whatever, oblivious to the internal battle going on in Applejack's head. Applejack looked back at Rarity who nodded, her smile widening.
Applejack rolled her eyes, a smile growing on her lips.
"She's cute." She mouthed.
Rarity motioned towards the girl, urging Applejack. Applejack took a deep breath and then exhaled. What was the worst that could happen? It couldn't hurt to try.
"Ah'll give it a shot." She whispered to Rarity.
Rarity beamed, quietly fangirling, catching the eye of the guy sitting next to her. Applejack turned back around in her seat. She looked at the girl. Applejack watched her for a moment, gathering up the courage. Finally she found her voice.
"Hi."
The girl looked up at Applejack, having heard her. She smiled at her. Applejack smiled back. Applejack's stomach flipped flopped. That smile would be the end of her.
"Hey." The girl said.
Applejack immediately relaxed. The girl's calm demeanor brought a wave of calmness around her, washing away all her uncertainty. Applejack's confidence boosted looking at the girl. She sat up straighter, shoulders back, head held high.
"Ah don't recall ever seein' you on here. What's your name?."
"Rainbow Dash."
Rainbow Dash. Interesting name. Original, too. Applejack rested her arm on the back of her seat.
"Well ah'm Applejack. So where you headin' to?. Me and mah friends are on our way ta school."
"Me too." Rainbow said. "What school do you go to?"
"Canterlot High."
Rainbow Dash looked almost surprised.
"Really? I go there."
Applejack was taken by surprise. How in the world had she been going to school every day and had not seen this girl? Surely she would've noticed someone as beautiful as Rainbow walking by. Or maybe she more oblivious than she thought.
"How have ah never noticed you b'fore?."
Rainbow shrugged.
"Not sure, but we know each other now, so it's ok."
Applejack smirked.
"Yeah. Ah'm just surprised that ah didn't notice such a beautiful girl in mah school. You're one of a kind and not exactly easy ta forget, ah assume. That's all."
Rainbow Dash bowed her head, her face filling up with a deep blush. She smiled embarrassed. Applejack thought it was absolutely adorable.
"So what grade are you in?." She asked.
Rainbow looked up at her. Her cheeks were still bright red.
"Uh... I'm a senior." She said.
"Us too." Applejack replied.
"Awesome."
They were silent for a moment. The two stared at each other, not at all awkward. Rainbow Dash slowly smirked.
"Is that all you wanted to say? Or did you just want to flirt?"
Applejack shrugged, keeping her own smirk.
"Should ah stop or are ya gonna give me yir number??" She asked.
She chuckled lightly, giving away she was joking. Rainbow eyed her for a moment. She hummed in a amusement. She then tore her eyes away from Applejack. She unzipped her backpack. Applejack watched curiously to see what she'd do. Rainbow Dash dug around in her bag. Applejack heard the sounding of ripping paper. Rainbow fished out a pen and a torn off piece of paper. Applejack's eyes widened. Rainbow scribble on the paper and then looked up at her with a smile. She held out the paper.
"Here." She said.
Applejack stared at the paper. Was she serious? This was not happening. Applejack didn't move at first. When Rainbow continued to stare, Applejack realized she should probably do something. She slowly reached up and took the piece of paper out of Rainbow's hand. Applejack's heartbeat picked up as she looked at the neon blue writing. Applejack looked up at Rainbow Dash. Rainbow still had the smirk on her face but it was softer and more like a grin.
"You should call me sometime. I like you already. Plus, you're cute. I like cute."
Suddenly they heard the sound of rushing air. The two looked up at the screen at he front of the train car.
Canterlot Square
The girls looked at each other.
"This is our stop." Rainbow said. "I gotta try to get to school early today, so I gotta run."
She quickly grabbed her bag and stood up.
"I'll see you at school, I hope."
She winked.
"I'll be looking for ya."
With that Rainbow hurried away, leaving a dumbfounded Applejack. Applejack watched her leave the train. She couldn't believe it. She got that girl's number without even asking or trying. Awesome.
"C'mon, Romeo."
Applejack jumped. She turned her head. She saw her friends standing there, smirking and smiling. Applejack blushed, grabbing her book bag. Suddenly something caught her eye. She turned her head and looked at the empty seat beside her. She saw a book in the spot where Rainbow was sitting. Applejack stood up and picked up the book.
"She must've left it." She guessed.
Applejack opened the cover. On the back of the front cover was writing.
Rainbow Eden Dash
Yup. Definitely her book. Applejack and her friends walked off the train and out of the train station, walking down the street towards their school. Applejack examined the front and back cover of the book as she walked. Daring Do. An adventure book series.
"Hm. She must like ta read." Applejack observed, grinning. "That's cute."
"So are you gonna return it to your girlfriend" Pinkie teased.
Applejack rolled her eyes.
"She's not mah girlfriend, Pinkie. Shut up. But yeah. We go to the same school, so ah'm bound ta run into her sooner or later."
The teens got to school. Applejack was more aware of her surroundings. She looked around, slightly hoping to see Rainbow. She didn't. Applejack wasn't sure why she felt the slightest bit disappointed.
"Let's get to homeroom." Twilight said.
They all walked to their separate homerooms, just as the homeroom bell rang, telling students lingering in the halls to get there. Applejack and Fluttershy walked into their homeroom. Greeting their homeroom teacher, they went straight to their seats. They sat down, placing their bags on the floor. Applejack looked at the book in her hand once more.
"I hope you find her." Fluttershy said. "It's be a shame if she never got her book back. She must've realized she doesn't have it by now. I hate losing things."
Applejack looked up at her. She hoped she could find Rainbow, too. She would hate for the book to not be returned. Plus, it gave her a reason to see her again. Applejack looked down at the book. She opened it to the first page. Her eyes scanned the words. Next thing she knew, she was turning the page. Then the next. Then the next.
The sudden sound of the bell ringing brought her out of her spell. Applejack looked up. She saw everyone getting up to head to class.
"C'mon." Fluttershy said, getting up.
Applejack closed the book and got up, grabbing her bag. The two walked out of the room and into the crowded hallway. It was noisier than usual that day. Guess everyone was hyped for the weekend. Applejack didn't know. Her eyes scanned the crowd. She looked for any sign of Rainbow Dash.
She was so busy, she didn't watch where she was going. She bumped into someone, their shoulder hitting hers. Applejack snapped back into reality and looked at the person. Applejack could've laughed. Well, what do you know.
Rainbow looked at her. She stared at Applejack for a moment, then smiled.
"Hey."
Applejack smiled.
"Hey. Ah found ya. Good."
Applejack held out the book. Rainbow gasped lightly. She took the book from Applejack, looking down at it.
"I was looking for this."
Applejack grinned.
"You left it on the train."
Rainbow looked up at her, magenta eyes sparkling.
"Thanks. Applejack, right?"
Applejack nodded.
"Yeah."
She then had an idea. Applejack smirked.
"Now that ah returned yir book, you gotta repay me."
Rainbow raised an eyebrow.
"How?"
"Go on a date with me sometime."
Rainbow blushed.
"A date?"
Applejack thought she was the cutest thing ever when she blushed. She gave a nod.
"Yup. A date will pay of yir debt."
Rainbow grinned and rolled her eyes.
"Oh, so I owe you now. I have a debt to pay off?"
Applejack crossed her arms.
"Exactly."
Rainbow giggled.
"Ok. When are you free?" She asked.
"This Saturday."
"Awesome."
This was great. Applejack scored a date. She was on a roll today. Rainbow Dash pointed her thumb over her shoulder.
"I should get to class. I'm gonna be late."
Applejack waved.
"Ah'll text ya later." She said.
Rainbow said goodbye before simply walking across the hall and into a classroom. Applejack's eyes widened when she realized that that was Rainbow's class. She sucked her teeth.
"Woooow."
She chuckled and turned around. She saw Flutttshy standing in the doorway, smiling knowingly. Applejack blushed.
"Just wait till the girls find out." Fluttershy said. "That is, if you tell them."
"How can I not?" Applejack asked. "But still. C'mon."
They went into the room and sat down. The late bell had rung and students were filing in. The teacher put up an assignment on the board a minute later and began talking. Applejack was only half listening. She couldn't stop thinking about a certain girl across the hall.
So yeah. I hope you guys liked this. Comment below your thoughts :)
