Love doesn't discriminate part 2/2
Enjoy :)
The next day, Rainbow and Applejack immediately knew something was up when they entered the school. Rainbow had nearly everyone staring at her as they walked down the hall. It made her uneasy, seeing all the eyes on her.
Rainbow tightened her grip on Applejack's hand.
"What's with the staring??" She whispered to her girlfriend.
AJ shrugged.
"Ah don't know. Let's just find the others."
They made it to their hallway. They could see the others huddled together by their lockers.
Pinkie noticed them first.
"They're here!!" She almost shouted.
The others looked over at Rainbow and Applejack. The couple approached their eager looking friends.
"Are you alright, Rainbow??" Twilight asked.
Rainbow raised a brow.
"Yeah. Why? Why's everyone being so weird today??" Rainbow Dash asked, fed up with the strange behavior already.
Pinkie, Twilight, Sunset, Fluttershy and Rarity all looked at one another, confusion on their faces.
"Because of what happened at the store." Sunset answered. "With the cop."
Rarity scoffed. "That man should be fired for the way he treated you. It was horrible."
Rainbow looked at Applejack, panic in her eyes. Applejack knew what she was thinking.
"How do you know 'bout that??" She voiced.
"Well, everyone knows." Fluttershy explained. "We saw the video."
Video? What video? They weren't told about any video going around. Rainbow looked around. The glances and stares her way made sense now. Everyone knew what happened at the store.
Rainbow wanted to disappear into the floor right then and there.
"So- So everyone knows??" She asked for clarification.
Twilight nodded in the positive. "Yup. Everyone's talking about it. It got posted online and it's got tons of views."
The homeroom bell suddenly rang, signaling for everyone to get to their classrooms. Rainbow wondered if it was too late to ditch school.
-------------------------------
She couldn't stop thinking about it. People knew what happened. Just when she thought she could kind of forget about it and relax a little, now it was brought up. Some teachers gave her pity glances, telling her she could go to them if she ever needed them. The school counselor stopped her in between classes to do the same.
Rainbow slumped down at the desk next to Applejack. Final class. Just one more and she could go home. She nearly face-planted onto her desk, dead tired.
Applejack noticed her mood immediately and smiled. She leaned her chin on Rainbow's shoulder, planting a kiss on her cheek.
"Hey, babe. You alright?"
Rainbow glanced at her.
"No. I wanna go home and never leave." She groaned.
Applejack wrapped a supportive arm around Rainbow's slumped shoulders.
"Ah know this sucks, but hey. You know as well as ah that the video that was shared gained the attention it needed. People need to be aware of this stuff."
Rainbow groaned. "Ugh. I know that. I just wish I at least knew about it before everyone else. I hate how everyone in school saw it and they all know us."
Applejack felt bad. Rainbow didn't like unwanted attention, especially due to such a terrifying experience the day before. Rainbow always held a fear that people were judging her or laughing at her behind her back. This day certainly wasn't helping that fear.
The classroom door was heard closing. Their history teacher, Ms.Cheerilee walked in, chattering a mile a minute, spouting an apology and explaining her delay. She set her stuff down and went about getting herself in order.
"Ok, so everyone can open their textbooks to chapter 16 on page 316, let's begin the lesson."
The class did as instructed. To Rainbow's surprise, the chapter subject was the Civil Rights Movement. Man, the stars were just aligning for her today, huh? Rainbow leaned her palm, resting her cheek against it. The lesson went on and it was interesting. They looked at pictures and videos.
Then came the class discussion. Ms.Cheerilee sat down on her stool in front of the class, hands clasped on her lap.
"Now, I'm sure you all know by now, but racial tension in Equestria hasn't disappeared. It is still a major issue for Aerians and Mages, sadly enough. The news is full of the protests that have been going on."
A student talked about his experience going to a protest. He said it was very nerve wracking, however also fun since nothing dramatic happened and they all ended up playing music as the crowd stood around chanting and talking to cops weren't the violent type.
"I don't see a point to the protests." A girl spoke up, gaining everyone's attention. "Like, I get that Aerians are being discriminated against, but they're not special. All lives matter."
The silent that filled the room was deafening. Rainbow spun around, her eyes wide at the words coming out of the girl's mouth. The girl was human.
Rainbow scoffed.
"Are you fucking kidding me??" She blurted. "Are you serious? Tell me you're joking."
This girl couldn't be that ignorant. Not in this school of all places. She had to be playing around. She had to.
The girl stared back her her, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"What? It's true. Plus, the cops aren't the problem. All those people that give the cops a hard time are the problem. You Aerians are just wild and uncontrollable with a victim mentality. Just stop committing crimes and stop being so loud and uncivilized. Like, get over yourself. Slavery is gone. End of story."
Oh whatever higher power was up there, give her patience and strength not a knock a bitch out. Rainbow glanced at the teacher. Ms.Cheerilee looked lost and unsure what to say. The woman glanced around the room.
Calmly, she asked, "I am obviously human, so I don't think it's appropriate for me to speak for the Aerian community. Would you guys like to educate her on the subject?"
That was teacher talk for "I don't want to get fired so can one of you guys tell this chic off for me?"
Rainbow sprang to her feet.
"Gladly." She accepted the opportunity.
Rainbow looked at the human girl.
"You're right. Slavery was abolished a century ago. That's true, but have you ever considered that maybe racism is still a thing?"
Rainbow placed a hand on her hip.
"No, of course you didn't think it still exist. You know why. It's cuz your privileged. Your race is the race that enslaved mine! Your race has been on top for all of Equestrian history. This place is run by humans. Aerians were stolen from our motherland and brought here by force. Your race slaughtered Mages when they first came here and took the land by force."
Rainbow could feel her blood rushing. She was pissed.
"You don't have to worry about being discriminated against, cuz you're not human. You don't have to worry about people thinking the worst about you cuz you have wings! You don't have to worry about getting shot by the cops simply cuz they believe you look dangerous. You don't have to think about walking around a human neighborhood alone and wonder if they think you'll rob them. You don't have to worry about the cops getting called on you because you look suspicious even though you're literally just there to hang out with friends or family."
The girl rolled her eyes.
"Oh come on." She scoffed. "You must love being the victim. We all saw the video. You're no different from every other bird-person. You probably did do something to get arrested. You also resisted the cop. All you had to do was follow orders, but did the opposite. Typical for your kind."
That made everyone freeze. Bird-person? That was a racial slur to Aerians. One that was seen as offensive to them whe said by others outside the community. Rainbow was rendered speechless. She hadn't expected the girl to go so far.
"Are you serious?!"
Rainbow turned around in surprise. Gilda was standing up, looking absolutely pissed.
"Now I know you did just call her that. Are you that empty in the head? Do you have no empathy or do you just not know why it's offensive? Cuz it is."
Rainbow had never expected her ex to be standing up for her. Gilda continued on.
"Our people have suffered in silence for centuries. We were obedient and played nice. Our ancestors worked to death on those fields, for your ancestors. No one gave a shit that we were seen as animals. Now that we're finally speaking up cuz we're sick and tired of it, now you have a problem??
Your kind have taken over history. It's all about humans. No one talks about the Aerian people of history. No one talks about the Mages of history. Hell, the country refuses to talk about the shit humans have put our people through. No one talks about the pain your people cause us."
Rainbow rolled her eyes. She shook her head. She went a tangent, words spewing from her mouth.
"Humans love to say that we're equal. We're not. Never have been. We don't protest to cause trouble. We protest to make people pay attention to those problems. Humans have ignored us for far too long and we demand justice and equality. That's it. If we wanted to be dangerous, shit would be up in flames right now. Things would be a lot worse if we wanted to cause trouble. That excuse is just your racist ass, small-minded brain trying to hold to any type feeling of superiority you think you have, but dude, it ain't gonna last you long. Equality is basic human right. Yes, all lives matter, but right now, Aerians are being the ones targeted. This country claims to stand for justice and liberty for us all. However, that has only applied to humans. Not the rest of us. This country has been only in favor of humans. If you can't see that, then you need to take a good look around and then inside your heart if you claim to have one and really think of why you feel that way. Cuz if you can honestly think that someone is worth less than you because they come from a background you don't understand or that looks different from you, you are a disgrace to society and I hope you never have kids so can't spread you disgusting views on others. I'm ashamed to be in the same room as you. This is Equestria. Liberty and justice for only humans. Well, I refuse to pledge allegiance for a country that would rather see me die and look the other way. Damnit, I don't care if protestors burn this place to the ground. After all, This isn't our country and we didn't ask to come here, so don't be shocked when we're angry about being treated like garbage for being here. If you hate us so much, go back to your own country. Remember, the place your ancestors cane from when they stole this land from the natives?? You're immigrants too, but y'all don't wanna talk about that either. Hm, looks like you humans have to get your history in order if you think you can come in here and try and talk to me about my own people's history. Sit down and shut up."
Rainbow marched over to her desk and sat down. She crossed her arms, a smug look on her face.
The human girl slid down in her seat, eyes on her desk. The room was silent.
Suddenly, Rainbow spoke up again.
"I know you've seen the video of me getting nearly arrested. I didn't do anything wrong. I was wrongly accused of stealing a bottle of water that was mine from home."
Rainbow released a shutter.
"I have never felt so scared. I was waiting for him to kill me. I begged him not to cuz for all I knew he was gonna cuz it keeps happening to my people and I'm glad Applejack was there to record him cuz if she wasn't, who knows what would have happened to me. Her being human probably saved my life."
She looked around the silent room, everyone looking at her.
"If you can honestly say you've never had that thought or that kind of fear or that treatment done to you or someone you love due to your race... you can't say shit. You don't know the first thing about what's it's like to be oppressed and you can't speak for us. You can support us, but you'll never get it. Not really so get off your high horses and educate yourself before doing or saying something you know nothing about. You're just being ignorant and an idiot otherwise."
Suddenly the bell rang. Everyone slowly started to pack up. Rainbow was the first to leave, in a rush to get out, Applejack close behind, a proud smile on her face.
AJ made sure to tell me her how proud she was of Rainbow when they got home. The next couple of days, the two along with their friends worked to put together their own new club in their school. An equal rights alliance club for Humans, Mages, and Aerians.
The end.
So yeah. Sloppy ending, I know. I got lazy lol. The rant was messy and unorganized But let me know what you think :)
