Christmas word: Advent Calender

Day 2! Enjoy :)

Rainbow thought advent calendars were cool as a kid. The thought of opening a little window every day and getting candy was mind blowing and exciting. So when she saw one while her and Applejack was Christmas shopping, she had to have it. And lucky for her, Applejack loved her very much and got it for her without too much effort or asking from Rainbow Dash. Applejack couldn't help it. She'd give Rainbow almost anything she asked for. So that day, they purchased the calendar and they set up in the living room on the mantle above the fireplace.

"Looks perfect." Rainbow has said, an excited grin on her face.

Applejack thought she looked like a kid, her eyes glowing with youthfulness and joy over something so simple and kinda weird.

Applejack rested her hands on her hips.

"So, tell me. What is it and what's it for?"

She's never really had an advent calendar before. Sure, she'd heard of others kids having them growing up, her parents has never gotten one for her and her brother. It made her curious as to what the fuss was all about. Just a plastic board with tiny doors, each having a number painted on them.

Rainbow giddily explains that each number was suppose to each day of the month of December. Except it only went up to the 25th, meaning it's Christmas Day. Each tiny door had a piece of chocolate behind it. Applejack smiled in amusement. She could Pinkie buying a whole bunch of them, just to eat the candy, no matter what month it was. Rainbow wouldn't be so different, she supposed. The two had the same amount of high energy when they wanted to have to, although Pinkie was energetic almost all the time and Rainbow was chill most of the time.

However this moment right here was not one of those times. Rainbow talked a mile a minute, joy in her voice, making Applejack's heart flutter.

"When I was little, my mom got one for me every year."

Rainbow noticeably relaxed at the mention of her mom. Applejack worried that it might've ruined the festive mood. But Rainbow pull on a smile, standing taller.

"But now I get to start that tradition with you, so it's cool."

Applejack giggled. She reached out her hands. Rainbow held her hands, taking a step closer.

"If that's what you happy, Sure." Applejack said. "Ah'd be honored ta continue this tradition with you."

Rainbow beamed. You kissed Rainbow on the cheek.

"You're awesome, AJ. Not as awesome as me, but second best."

She walked away, a happy grin on her face. Applejack watched her before looking at the calendar on the mantle. This simple item meant a lot to Rainbow. Applejack didn't see much of a point to it. But seeing Rainbow excited was enough for her.

"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon!"

Rainbow pulled Applejack down the hall by the hand.

"What's the rush, babe?." Applejack asked, still not quite understanding what the big deal was.

Rainbow led her into the living room. Thy made their way over to the fireplace. Rainbow reached up and took the advent calendar off the mantle.

"Rainbow." Applejack said with a tired sigh. "It's just a calendar. Nothin' worth wakin' me up at five in the mornin' on a Saturday fir."

Both were still in their pajamas, their hair messy and Applejack really wanted to go back to bed. And it was very usual for Rainbow to be awake this early in the morning at all. Almost unnatural.

"We gotta open the first door!" Rainbow said as if it was obvious. "C'mon. Don't be such a party pooper."

Applejack rolled her eyes, but took her place beside Rainbow, the both of them taking a seat on the couch. Rainbow looked up at Applejack.

"Do you wanna open it today?" She asked. "We can take turns each day. Ok?"

Applejack shrugged.

"That sounds fair. Ok."

Rainbow Dash handed Applejack the item. Applejack examined it. The front had a picture of a Christmas tree on it, the numbers on the door had picture ornaments on them. It was cute. Applejack carefully pulled the tiny door open. Inside was a small piece of chocolate, wrapped tightly in foil with a picture of Santa on it. Applejack took it out, handing the chocolate to Rainbow Dash. Rainbow looked surprise at the action. She stared at the candy in her hand. She looked as if she'd no idea what to do.

"Rainbow." Applejack said. "Are you alright, Sugarcube?"

Rainbow looked up at her.

"You're not gonna eat it?" She asked. "You opened the door."

Applejack grinned and shrugged.

"That's whatever. You were so happy ta do this. Plus, ah hardly eat chocolate. Makes me break out."

She nodded her head towards the piece of candy.

"Go on."

Rainbow smiled. She unwrapped the chocolate, crumbling up the wrapper and tossing it. She bit half of the candy off. She chewed, holding out the other half to Applejack. Applejack tried to politely refuse. She held up her hands, shaking her head.

"No thanks. This was your idea."

Rainbow wasn't taking no for an answer.

"Eat it."

She basically shoved the piece of chocolate in Applejack's face. She gave her a look that dared her to challenge her. Applejack rolled her eyes. She opened her mouth. Rainbow fed her the candy, a smile back on her face.

"See? That wasn't so bad. Plus your breakouts aren't that bad. I heard chocolate is good for you."

Applejack rolled her eyes. She swallowed.

"Only a little bit is good. But thanks"

Rainbow shrugged. She grinned, standing up. She walked up to the fireplace and put the advent calendar back. She turned off the fireplace. Rainbow looked at AJ, smiling.

"Let's go back to bed. You look tired."

Applejack sighed in relief.

"Thank you."

She and Rainbow Dash went upstairs to the bedroom. They got back in bed, which was heavenly for Applejack. She pulled the blanket up, relaxing.

"Hey, AJ?"

Applejack opened her eyes. She saw Rainbow looking at her through the dark, although Applejack couldn't see her face.

"Yeah?"

"Did I ever tell you how awesome you are?"

Applejack laughed. She reached out. Her hand found Rainbow's shoulder.

"C'mere you." She said.

Rainbow scooted over. Applejack turned on her face. She could feel Rainbow was close to her. They wrapped each other in an embrace.

"Ah love you, Rainbow. So much."

"I love you, too. This is gonna be fun. I know you don't see the point of the calendar, but it's fun. Trust me. You'll like it once you get use to it."

Applejack leaned over and planted a kiss on what she guessed was Rainbow's forehead.

"Alright. Now go to sleep."

Rainbow and Applejack closed their eyes and fell asleep together, content as ever.
