A magical tail part 2/2

"Hey, Apples. I can explain."

Applejack stared at Rainbow Dash, stunned. Rainbow slowly stood up, wringing her hands.
Applejack studied her, looking for something, though she didn't know what. Her brain was still processing the phenomena she'd just watched.

Rainbow turned into a wolf. A wolf. People could do that? Since when did reality become a fantasy movie?

Applejack couldn't find the words to express her jumbled thoughts. So, she closed her mouth, and decided to let Rainbow do the talking. Rainbow, probably having expected a negative reaction, sighed in relief at being given a chance to explain herself.

"If you couldn't tell by all this..."

Rainbow gestured to all the stuff set up around the space.

"....I'm a witch."

Applejack slowly nodded, glad that what she guessed was confirmed as true. Rainbow was a witch. Good to know.

Rainbow stared at her, seeming to be waiting for something. After a few seconds, her expression morphed into apprehension and confusion.

"You're not freaking out?" She questioned.

Applejack shook her head.

"Nope. Thanks for tellin' me. Though, I kinda figured it out when I saw all these doohickeys. Especially that book and those candles."

Applejack motioned to said items. Rainbow made a face.

"Yeah. I see your point." She agreed.

Applejack smiled.

"So... how long you been doing this?" She asked.

Rainbow pondered, looking off into space.

"Forever, I guess?" She replied.

Rainbow bit her lip, wringing to hands once more.

"I was born with magical abilities, like my mom. She taught me some stuff, growing up. I guess you can call it bloodline magic."

Rainbow sank to the floor, sitting criss-cross. Applejack sat down as well, listening intently. Rainbow picked up the book with symbols and drawings.

"This is my family's grimoire, or spellbook to put it simply. It's been passed down from generations to generations in my family."

Rainbow held out the old book. Applejack carefully held it in her hands, examining it. The pages were weathered and old. Touching the pages, Applejack suddenly felt a strange sensation ghosting over her hands. Like she shouldn't be holding this. She shivered, overwhelmed by the feeling. Handing back the book, she rubbed her hands on her pants.

"What in the world was that?" She asked. "Magic?"

Rainbow grinned and nodded.

"It's enchanted. That way, no one but my bloodline can touch it and or read it. Can you understand the writing?"

Applejack shook her head.

"Seems like nonsense to me."

Rainbow snorted.

"It's written in runes." She explained, as if that made it make more sense to the blonde.

Applejack looked around the space. It was clear Rainbow had been doing spellwork in the last hour or so. Her curiosity made her ask.

"So, all this was for..?" She trailed off, gesturing to the set up.

Rainbow looked around for a moment, before realizing what was being asked.

"Oh! So, it's a full moon out, tonight. Which is when the moon is the strongest. So, I was using the opportunity to change."

Applejack raised a confused brow.

"Change?"

Rainbow nodded.

"My wolf form. I can change into that form at will at any moment, but enhancing myself with moon magic is easier when I'm in my wolf form. It's my purely magical form." She explained.

Applejack could only said one word.

"Wow."

Both of them broke into giggles, the whole situation unbelievable. Rainbow went about putting away her tools and potion ingredients. Applejack watched her, her curiosity spiking when looking at the ingredients being put into a jar.

"Was that a potion or somethin'?" She guessed.

"Mhm. Transformation spell." Rainbow confirmed. "Slug, flies, toenails..."

Applejack's face twisted with disgust.

"Ew, are you serious?"

Rainbow laughed, shaking her head.

"No. I'm joking."

Applejack scowled, before giggling along with her. Rainbow finished stowing away her items and tools. She looked over at Applejack. Her demeanor changed to contemplative and nervous. Rainbow began to run her fingers through her hair, staring at Applejack. Applejack gave her a look, encouraging her to speak her thoughts.

"Are you... are you alright with all this?" She asked, looking at her with worry. "I know I'm not exactly your normal girl. I guess you could say I'm a freak of nature. People don't really think good things about witches. Even though I'm pretty good at hiding it in public, if the wrong person found out, it could get messy or dangerous."

Applejack smiled. She held out her arms. Rainbow Dash sighed in relief. She crossed the short distance, letting herself be enveloped in an embrace. The couple stood there for a few seconds, just hugging. Applejack finally pulled back so they could look at one another.

"Course, I don't mind, RD. Babe, we already got Equestrian magic. So, it don't bother me none if you gots different kinds of magic, too. Might take some gettin' used to, but I'm not bothered by it. I'm actually kind of curious. You mind teachin' me about all that sometime? How you do your spells and what all those things were."

Rainbow smiled, lighting up.

"Really? Okay."

She suddenly let out a small yawn.

"Sorry that I woke you this early in the morning." She said. "It's just that three in the morning is perfect for moon spells, in my opinion."

Applejack grinned tiredly, the time catching up to her. It was an ungodly hour and she was ready to get back to bed, knowing that Rainbow was alright.

"It's alright. I'm glad you did. I learned how awesome my girlfriend really is."

AJ wrapped her arms around Rainbow's waist, pecking her on the lips. Rainbow smirked.

"Heck yeah. You know it, AJ." Rainbow boasted.

Applejack rolled her eyes. She took a step back, taking Rainbow by the hand.

"C'mon, magic pants." She teased. "Let's go back to bed."

Applejack led them back to their bedroom, turning the lights off as they walked down the hall. The couple walked into the bedroom. Rainbow flicked her hand and the door closed on its own. Applejack snorted.

"I could get used to that." She commented.

Rainbow sighed, smiling.

"Feels nice to not have to hide my magic anymore." She confessed, climbing into bed.

Applejack laid down, spooning Rainbow. She planted a kiss onto her cheek.

"Does this mean I can start calling you 'my little witch'?"

Rainbow laughed.

"No way."

So yeah! Lemme know what you think :)
