Unusual animal part 12

Eventually the doctor came in. Applejack tore her eyes away from Rainbow Dash and turned around. The doctor was a woman. She walked in with a folder. She smiled at the couple.

"Hey, girls." She greeted. "I'm Dr.Fixer. I specialize with hybrids and humans, so you can bet I'll take good care of Rainbow Dash today."

Applejack gave a small polite smile. She squirted some hand sanitizer on her hands. Then she went to shake Applejack's hand. Dr.Fixer then looked at Rainbow Dash. She smiled sympathetically at her.

"Hey, Sweetie. How do you feel??."

Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash. Rainbow didn't reply. She just looked away, clutching her teddy bear

Applejack looked at the doctor.

"She refuses ta speak." She said.

"So I was told." The woman said.

She went over to a rolling chair and sat down. She scooted the chair up to the end of Rainbow's bed, a clipboard in her hands.

"Rainbow. Would it bother you if I stayed right here??."

Both Applejack and the doctor looked at Rainbow. Rainbow simply shrugged. She shook her head. Applejack felt that was good that Rainbow was letting her doctor be near her. Maybe it was because it was a woman.

Dr.Fixer stared at her for a moment, analyzing.

"So Rainbow. I heard that you were found in an alleyway, hurt."

Rainbow tensed up. She nodded. Applejack could see invisible walls being built in her mind. She wished there was something she could do.

Dr.Fixer nodded. "Did an adult hurt you??."

Rainbow nodded. The woman slowly nodded.

"Rainbow did that person beat you up??."

Rainbow nodded. She sunk down in the bed.

"And............ I was told it was a man." The doctor added cautiously.

Rainbow didn't respond. She hugged herself, suddenly getting choked up. Tears built up in her eyes. Rainbow blinked, letting them roll down her cheeks.

Dr.Fixer was quiet as Rainbow silently cried. She wouldn't let anyone touch her, curling into a little ball. She began to breathe harshly, as if gasping for breath. Rainbow's eyes widened in panic, a hand on clutching her chest.

"Rainbow." Applejack said, springing into action.

Dr.Fixer got up and hurried Rainbow's bedside.

"She's having a panic attack." She told Applejack. "Rainbow, remember to breathe."

She reached out and took Rainbow's hands.

"Rainbow. Look at me. Take nice deep breathes." She instructed.

Rainbow Dash looked up at her. She began to sob, gasping for air.

"Baby." Applejack said. "You're alright." Rainbow looked at her girlfriend.

She seemed to calm down a bit, seeing Applejack there. Applejack reached out and touched her shoulder gently.

"You're alright, baby. You're safe. Ah promise you you're safe. Ain't nothin' gonna hurt chu here. Breathe for me, Rainbow."

Rainbow nodded. The tears continued to flow. The doctor began to guide her through breathing exercises. Breathe in slowly and out. In and out. In and out.

Rainbow was starting to calm down little by little. She looked at Applejack, softly crying and hiccuping.

"What do you need??." Dr.Fixer asked. "Do you need space?? Water??"

Rainbow immediately reached out to Applejack. Applejack knew what she was trying to say.

"Up??."

Rainbow nodded. Applejack scooted over. She carefully pulled Rainbow on to her lap. Rainbow laid her head on her chest, clutching her shirt. Applejack held her, rubbing her back slowly.

"You're okay." She whispered. "Everythin' is alright, Rainbow. Ah'm not gonna let anythin' or anyone hurt you. You're safe here. There's no danger here. Breathe. Just breathe. You can do it"

Rainbow nodded. She wiped her tears away, hiccuping. She took a shaky breath and let it out. She clung to Applejack, Applejack scratching her head.

After a few minutes, Rainbow Dash was silent, just sniffling and shifting every so often. Her doctor examined her.

"You feel better now??." She asked.

Rainbow nodded. Dr.Fixer looked at Applejack.

"I'll be right back." She said, standing up. "I'm going to go get someone and bring her in to talk to Rainbow."

Rainbow looked up at her, eye wide with fear. The doctor noticed and was quick to reassure her.

"She's very nice. She just wants to see how you're doing and we'll look at your bruises and help you feel better. This lady can help you feel better. She just wants to talk to you and you don't have to talk if you don't want to."

Rainbow shook her head. The doctor looked at Applejack.

"I'll be right back." She promised.

The doctor walked out, closing the curtain and the door. Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash. The hybrid seemed to be frozen, a distant look in her eyes. Applejack felt so bad. All she could do was give Rainbow her attention and comfort her.

"Rainbow??." She said softly. "Please let them do what they need ta do. Ah know it's hard n' they're really scary, but they just wanna help you feel better. So please try ta cooperate. Ah'll be right here, so there's nothin' ta be scared of. You're safe here. They won't hurt you."

Rainbow nodded, not saying a word. Applejack had a dreadful feeling that Rainbow wasn't going to be talking for a while.
--------------------------

Dr.Fixer and the hospital's child therapist walked out. Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash. The girl was laying on the bed, not moving, her eyes staring into space. Her doctor and the child therapist had suggested that while Rainbow recovered, she would be seeing the therapist.

Rainbow hadn't said a word to anyone, barely looking at them either. The therapist had spoken to Rainbow. Applejack liked how she talked to Rainbow. She, surprisingly, had experience with hybrid people and knew exactly how to handle Rainbow's situation. She sympathized with Rainbow, telling her that was a brave and when she mentioned therapy, she said it would be helpful and she could draw and write and use stickers and read and they can talk about whatever Rainbow wanted.

She made sure to mention that she would get better if she did what she was suppose to and if Rainbow let her do her job and if Rainbow tries her best. Rainbow agreed with a silent nod.

The woman asked her about how she was feeling because of what happened. She gave Rainbow a notepad and a pencil. Rainbow wrote on it. Applejack tried not to read what Rainbow wrote down, trying to give her privacy, but she couldn't help glance at the paper every once in a while, seeing words like SCARED, HURT, SCARY MAN.

The therapist talked to her a little while longer, before she said she was going to talk to some people and she'd be back later on. Rainbow Dash was out fluid medications through an IV.

The medication knocked her out in less than half an hour. Applejack's dad and friends came in, asking how everything was going. They were horrified at Rainbow's appearance.

Applejack explained everything that had went on.

"So she's gonna start therapy, n' hopefully she'll start to talk again eventually."

Jackson sat down beside Applejack.

"She's a strong kid. She'll get through this. She had you girls to help her n' support her. She just needs some time."

Applejack sighed and nodded. She looked over at Rainbow Dash. The girl was curled up, her ears flat and her little body tense.

Time. She could do that.

------------------------

Applejack scrolled through her tumblr with one hand. Her other hand was holding Rainbow's. The hyrbid's attention was on Applejack's hand, playing with her fingers, feeling her smooth skin. The tv was on, cartoons playing.

Applejack couldn't count how many days it had taken for Rainbow to finally allow her to turn the tv on. Rainbow had been so afraid of the sound for some reason. Of a lot of sounds.

But now she was less tense. Her bruises were healing. That was an improvement. But she was still afraid of the dark. She didn't trust most men. Jackson was an exception. She still cowered in fear or lashed out in fearful aggression when someone she didn't like or trust got too close to her or Applejack.
The therapist took note and they were working on that issue during their therapy sessions.

She said Rainbow as doing good. She was writing and drawing for her. The woman claimed Rainbow had been close to telling her what happened to her, but she closed herself off at the last second.

But today would be a breakthrough.

"Now, Rainbow." The therapist said. "How do you feel today??."

Rainbow picked up the pencil. She scribbled down on the paper.

I still see the man in my dreams

The woman smiled in understanding.

"He is?? What is he doing in the dream?."

Rainbow hesitated. She slowly started to write but stopped. A distant look flashed across her eyes. She put the pencil down.

"What's wrong, Rainbow??." The therapist asked. "What's the matter??."

Rainbow crossed her arms, looking away.

"Rainbow." The woman said. "Can I ask you a question??."

Rainbow shrugged.

The woman licked her lips, thinking.

"Did the man tell you not to tell anyone what he did to you??."

Rainbow looked at her. She seemed to be contemplating.

"I just want you to get better." She said quietly. "Applejack does too. But you have to let us help you."

Rainbow looked at Applejack. The blonde singer grinned and nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, Rainbow." Applejack said. "Ah want you ta get better n' that means that you gotta tell us somethin'. Please."

Rainbow looked at the therapist. She nodded. She stared at the pencil, biting her lip. Applejack and the therapist watched as Rainbow picked up the pencil and started writing.

You promise I won't get hurt if i tell you??

This was a big step of progress. She was going to tell them.

"I promise." The therapist said. "You're safe in here. If you tell us what he did, he can go to jail once we catch him."

Rainbow exhaled shakily. She looked st Applejack. She then looked at the yellow notepad. She began to write.

She wrote and wrote and wrote.

A few minutes passed since Rainbow wrote slowly. But finally she stopped and looked up at her therapist. She hesitantly gave her the notepad. The therapist read what she had written.

Once she finished, she looked up at Rainbow. She smiled.

"Thank you, Rainbow. Don't you feel much better getting all that off your chest??"

Rainbow Dash nodded.

"There's just one question I need you to answer." The woman said to the hybrid teen.

She slid the notebook back to her.

"Why did you go with that man??."

Rainbow was stunned. She looked down at the paper and pencil. Then she looked at Applejack. She took a few deep breathes, as if gathering up courage. She suddenly turned and looked at Applejack. Her mouth opened.

Applejack sat up in full alert. Was Rainbow really going to talk??

Rainbow seemed unsure then she closed her eyes tightly.

"H-He said that i-if I didn't go with him, he would kill you."

Applejack eyes widened. "What??."

Rainbow nodded. "I-I went with him to protect you."

Applejack's heart broke. Rainbow had protected her and let that man take her away so Applejack could live. She sacrificed herself.

Guilt overtook her mind.

"You got hurt because of me."

"No!." Rainbow all it shouted.

She shook her head rapidly. She reached out and took Applejack's hands in hers.

"It wasn't your fault." She said. "You didn't hurt me."

"But it feels like it." Applejack argued. "You got hurt so ah wouldn't get killed. That man could've killed you n' it would've been all mah fault. You were probably so scared, all alone. Ah......"

Applejack bowed her said, tears falling down her cheeks

"Ah'm so, so sorry, Rainbow."

Rainbow wrapped her arm around her. Applejack hugged back, sobbing into her shirt.

"Ah'm so sorry. Please don't hate me."

Rainbow pulled away. She made Applejack look at her. She wiped Applejack's tears away. She kissed her cheek, tucking a lick of hair behind her ear gently.

"It's okay. I don't blame you for what happened. I did what I did to protect you because I love you. You didn't know it would happen. I'm not angry at you. I don't blame you. You did nothing wrong."

The two hugged, Rainbow Dash rubbing Applejack's back, comfortingly. The therapist watched, content. Now that both finally got what they wanted to say, both could start to heal and Rainbow's road to recovery was a bit smoother from there.

This was a big step.

So yeah. Comment below one thing you liked that happened in this chapter and why :)
