The two times Rainbow took care of herself, and one time she didn't

Rainbow whistled a happy tune, strolling into her and Applejack's shared kitchen. Her mind was on a snack. Rainbow stopped, hands in her hips, looking around. She spotted a bowl of fresh fruit Applejack has gotten the other day. On top of the mountain of fruits, there sat a bright red, perfect apple.

Rainbow walked over to where the bowl sat on top of the kitchen counter. She grabbed the apple. She stared at it, thinking.

Should I eat it like this?? Or cut it?? Apples always taste better when they're cut into slices.

Slices it is. Rainbow lightly tossed the apple into the air and caught it with a grin. She went to the knife drawer and opened it. She picked up one the sharp kitchen utensils.

Applejack doesn't like it when I use knives, but she's taking a nap. I think I can do it just this once without her finding out.

Rainbow Dash carefully placed the sharp knife on the counter and went over to the sink. She rinsed the apple and then went back to the counter where the knife laid. Wiping the counter clean, she it down the apple, positioning it. Taking the knife in her other hand, Rainbow out knife to fruit.

She began to slice the apple with slow sawing motions. The apple was a bit resistant to the knife, so she had to press down a life.

Suddenly her hand slipped. Rainbow gasped in surprise. She felt the blade graze her skin. Next thing she knew, blood was trickling down her hand, a decent sized cut in between her left thumb and index finger.

"Crap!!"

Rainbow clutched her left hand tightly with the other, doubling over. Pain burned into her wounded hand. Rainbow's breathing quickened. She looked down at her hand. Blood slowly ran down her cyan skin, dripping.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!"

Rainbow looked around in a panic. She liked for anything she could use to stop the bleeding. She hurried out of the room and up to the bathroom. She saw her and Applejack's towel hanging up on hooks. Rainbow immediately grabbed her towel. She pressed one corner of the body towel to her arm. The feeling stung but she knew she needed to ignore it.

Rainbow went over to the toilet. She made sure the lid of the toilet was down before sitting on top. She let out a shaky breath, attempting to calm herself down. Panicking was not something she did. She could handle this.

"It's just a cut, Rainbow. You'll be okay. No need to panic. You'll be fine."

Rainbow sat there for a good ten minutes, keeping pressure on the wound. She was sure there'd be a lot blood soaking baby blue towel she was using.

Maybe I should tell Applejack.

Rainbow shook her head at the thought. She didn't need any help from her girlfriend. She'd patched up her own injuries in the past while she was in foster care. She didn't need anyone's help.

After she made sure that the blood flow ceased, Rainbow Dash rinsed off the blood and put on disinfectant ointment in it and then found a bandaid that wouldn't stick to the injury and let it breath. Afterwards she tested her wrist and hand to make sure she had full function of it. Once she was sure she'd be okay, Rainbow went back downstairs.

She walked back into the kitchen to see Applejack stands no there. Did she wake up and go downstairs without Rainbow Dash noticing?? Had she been so absorbed in her situation, she didn't see or hear Applejack walk past the bathroom??

"Applejack."

Applejack turned at the sound of her name. She looked at Rainbow, pointing at the floor.

"Rainbow." She said, concern and fear in her green eyes.

Rainbow followed her finger. She saw blood on the kitchen tiles.

Crap.

She didn't notice the blood had dripped onto the floor. Rainbow looked back at Applejack and could see the questions in her eyes.

"What happened??. Are you alright??."

Rainbow walked up to the blonde teen. Applejack's eyes scanned her for injuries. A small gasp gave away that she saw Rainbow's hand.

"Rainbow. What happened??. Did you......"

Rainbow quickly shook her head, eyes wide.

"Nonono!! It was an accident. I swear!"

Applejack picked up Rainbow's injured hand in her careful hands. She examined it.

"I was trying to cut an apple." Rainbow explained.

She motioned to the apple on the counter. Applejack looked over at it. She saw the knife beside it. Applejack released Rainbow Dash and picked up the knife. She examined the sharp part of it.

"Ah can see a bit o' blood on it." She said, pointing smudged of red that coated a portion of the tip of the knife.

Applejack went to the sink and rinsed off the knife and then put it in the dishwasher. She cleaned up the blood that was on the floor with a wet paper towel. Rainbow watched her in silence, almost completely sure Applejack was mad at her for being careless and stupid or that she'd berate her, telling her she should've been more careful or something.

Applejack washed her hands and then walked up to Rainbow Dash.

"Lemme see"

Rainbow wordlessly held out her hand. Applejack carefully peeling off the bandaid a little so she could sneak a peek. Once she examined the small damage she reapplied the bandaid. She looked at Rainbow Dash.

"Why didn't cha tell me you got hurt??. You could have woken me up and ah woulda helped ya."

Rainbow shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal.

"I don't know. It just didn't seem like a big deal to come get you. I can take care myself."

Applejack sighed. "Babe. You know you don't have to do that, right??. Ah'm yir girlfriend. We take care of each other. Ah need ta know this stuff if it happens, in case you need ta get professional medical attention"

"Sorry."

Applejack grinned, wrapping her arms around Rainbow's waist. "Ah forgive you. C'mon. Let's go watch somethin' on the tv before ah make lunch."

"Can I still have the apple??." Rainbow asked, pointing at the apple that was sitting in the counter.

Applejack looked at it.

"Sure. Ah don't see why not."

Rainbow went over to the counter and swiped the apple off. She looked down at the cut that was made. She pouted, wondering how she'd eat it now.

"Want me ta cut for you??."

Rainbow looked over at Applejack who had a hand on her hip. Rainbow smiled shyly, embarrassed of the request.

"Can you??." She asked.

Applejack chuckled. She walked up to Rainbow and kissed her cheek, taking the apple from her.

"Sure thing, ya klutz."

#2
Rainbow blew her nose for the millionth time, endless amounts of snot coming out of her stuffed up nose.

Rainbow wiped her nose with the tissue and tossed it over to the trash can that was placed a few feet from her bed.

Rainbow sniffled and rolled onto her side. She was miserable. She'd spent her whole Sunday curled up in bed with a fever. Applejack was staying at her dad's house for the day and wouldn't be back until tonight. Rainbow had taken medicine, ate some soup and was doing her best to rest.

Rainbow sighed. She looked over at her phone. Maybe she should call Applejack.

No way!! And ruin her visit with her dad?? Nope. Not gonna happen. I can handle this. I'm Rainbow Dash, after all. A little fever isn't gonna stop the most awesomest person on earth.

Rainbow knew she shouldn't let her ego get in the way of her health, but she just couldn't help herself. Plus, she could take care of herself.

Rainbow suddenly felt sick. Her stomach did a weird flip flop. Rainbow shot up. She fell out of bed, dragging herself to the trash can. She reached it in time because as soon as she leaned over the trash can, she gagged.

Rainbow did not enjoy puking up her guts, her mouth going dry, her head spinning and throbbing simultaneously. She really wished Applejack was here with her to help her feel less alone.

But she didn't need Applejack's help. She was fine in her own.

Rainbow panted as she spit the last bit of the vomit in her mouth into the plastic bag. Rainbow sat there, panting and weakened.

Rainbow sighed. She looked around, the room still spinning. She decided that her bed was too far away and that she'd just fall asleep right there. Rainbow Dash yanked on her blanket with the little strength she had. The blanket came smoothly off and fell on to the floor.

Rainbow Dash wrapped her shivering yet slightly sweaty body with the blanket and laid down. She was thankful the lights were already off so she wouldn't have to get up to do so. Rainbow pushed the trash can away far enough so she wouldn't have to smell the vomit, but close enough that she'd be able to grab it if she needed to.

Rainbow laid down and curled up in a small, miserable ball. She closed her eyes. Miraculously, her head slowly stopped pounding as time passed by.

Finally, to end her seemingly never ending suffering, she fell into a peaceful sleep.
-------
Rainbow felt someone shaking her, bringing her out of her peaceful slumber. Rainbow groaned, trying to ship off whoever it was.

"Rainbow."

The shaking continued. Rainbow decided to see who it was. She cracked open her eyes. Light flooded in, hurting her irises for a brief moment. When they adjusted to the light, Rainbow blinked a few times. She saw Applejack looking down at her, a concerned look on her face.

Rainbow smiled, sleep in her eyes.

"Hey, gorgeous. How was the visit??."

"Rainbow." Applejack said, completely ignoring Rainbow's question. "Why're you on the floor and why is there puke in the trash can??."

Rainbow realized something. No headache. No stuffy nose. No dizziness.

Rainbow smiled and sat up.

"I'm all better!!."

Rainbow sighed in relief.

"Thank Celestia. I thought I'd be sick forever and die."

"Why're on the floor??."

Rainbow yawned and rubbed her eyes.

"Didn't feel well. I guess the medicine and a lot of sleep worked a miracle. I didn't feel like getting after I puked, so I stayed here."

Applejack felt her forehead.

"Why didn't cha call me?? Ah woulda came home ta take care of ya if you were that sick."

Rainbow brushed her disheveled hair out of her face, grinning.

"AJ. I'm fine. I can handle myself. No need to worry."

Applejack gave her a 'don't start that crap with me' look.

"Rainbow. Why do ah always gotta tell ya??. Let someone take care of you fir once. Ah understand you don't like ya seem weak or whatever, but someday you'll have to ask fir help when you can't handle somethin' on yir own. We can't everything alone. That's not what humans are programmed for."

Rainbow leaned in and kissed her cheek.

"Well. We'll see. For now, I'm gonna clean up and throw my bag of puke away."

Rainbow went to stand up, but was stopped by hands on her shoulders. Applejack gave her a serious look.

"You need sleep. It's almost midnight. Go brush yir teeth and then go to sleep."

Rainbow rolled her eyes, even though she was grateful.

"Yes, mom."

Applejack helped Rainbow to her feet. The teen held back a complain. Her body hurt from sleeping on the floor. She felt sore.

"Now go." Applejack commanded, a kiss on her forehead.

Rainbow turned and walked out. Applejack shook her head, picking up the blanket.

"That gal."

#3
Rainbow grunted, holding her bruised ribcage as she hobbled up to her and Applejack's house.

Stupid Gilda. Stupid girls. What the hell did I do to them??

Rainbow reached the front door. She supported all her weight onto the wall, burying a trembling hand into her right pocket. She fished out her house key. Rainbow grunted as she pushed herself off the wall. She grimaced as pain shot up her probably swollen left ankle.

Rainbow struggled to get the front door opened. Her left eye was partially closed due to a black eye she received from Gilda herself. The teen had an even more difficult time getting inside the house. Holding the screen door open hurt. Opening the wooden front door hurt. Limping inside was excruciatingly painful.

After successfully getting herself inside and locking the door again, Rainbow headed right to her and Applejack's room. She looked up at what seemed like a hundred stairs. Rainbow sighed, causing the pain to evolve in her rib area. Rainbow shakily grasped the metal rail. She used her good foot and step on the first wooden step. She hoisted herself up.

Stopping, Rainbow looked at the next step then down at her feet. She'd have to use her bad foot to lift herself up for a quick second. She knew it was gonna hurt like hell, but she had no choice. It was the less painful way.

Rainbow stepped up with her injured left foot. She kept it there for a few seconds. She took a few deep breathes, preparing herself for the pain.

She tightened her grip on the rail and lifted up with her bad leg. She cried out as pain shot up her ankle and leg. She cursed out loud. Rainbow fell forward. She caught herself with her free hand one of the steps. She didn't once release her hold on the rail.

Rainbow stayed in her bent over position, waiting for the pain to pass. She shifted her weight to her good foot. When the pain subsided, she stood up, shifting. Rainbow lightly panted, looking at the dreadful next step.

"Rainbow??." She heard not too far off.

Applejack. Rainbow's eyes widened. She cursed under her breath. She turned around at where Applejack's voice was coming from. Soon enough, Applejack walked in. Rainbow turned around, pulling a smile on her face. She quickly brushed her bangs in front of her face to hide the black eye.

"Hey, babe."

Applejack walked up to her.

"Ah just heard you in pain. Are you alright??."

Rainbow grinned.

"Yeah. It's just my ankle. Must've sprained it or something in the way home when I fell."

She couldn't tell Applejack about Gilda. She didn't want Applejack to get involved and maybe get hurt if she confronted Gilda about it. Cuz, Celestia knows AJ would confront anyone if Rainbow was hurt. Don't let the sweet and innocent side of her fool ya. If Rainbow was involved in something and she got hurt, whoever hurt her would be six feet under after AJ was done with them.

Applejack crossed her arm. She looked at Rainbow, cocking an eyebrow.

"Why do ah got a feelin' you ain't tellin' me somethin'?"

Rainbow shrugged.

Applejack stepped up to her.

"Get down. Here. Let me help ya."

Rainbow allowed Applejack to, as the strong girl she was, lift her up. Rainbow wasn't exactly heavy. Only weighted about 116 so Applejack easily hoisted off the steps and placed her onto the floor.

Rainbow held in a squeak as her injured ankle had pressure put on it. She bit her lip.

Applejack saw her face twist in pain. She lightly brushed Rainbow's hair out of her face.

"Why didn't you call me-"

Applejack gasped. "Rainbow. How did you get that black eye??."

Rainbow's eyes widened. Caught.

She looked away, struggling to find an excuse.

"Oh uh, well uh, you see, I-I uh-."

"Rainbow." Applejack said in all seriousness.

Rainbow stopped rambling and looked at her.

"Did someone hurt you??."

Rainbow stared into Applejack's eyes. She saw only a extreme concern and an intense want to protect in her dark green eyes. Rainbow couldn't lie to her. Not when all Applejack wanted was to take care of her.

"I got beat up." She mumbled out finally.

Applejack's eyes widened, then narrowed.

"Who hurt you??."

Rainbow shook her head. "I can't tell you, AJ. I don't want you to go after them and get hurt yourself. I know you'll confront them about this if you knew who it was and then they'd probably threaten you or hurt you or something. I won't let that happen to you."

Applejack sighed.

"You're probably right. Ah would go after em" She chuckled. "But can ya blame me??."

Rainbow shook her head.

"C'mon." Applejack said. "Let's get some ice on that eye o' yours."

"I can do it myself, AJ." Rainbow said. "I'll be fine."

Applejack glared at her.

"Can you stop sayin' that??." She snapped.

Rainbow flinched at the time of her voice. Applejack saw her reaction and calmed herself down.

"Baby. C'mon. Let's sit down. We gotta talk."

Applejack assisted Rainbow over to the living room. Rainbow sat down on the couch, Applejack beside her. Applejack sat with her body facing her.

"Rainbow. You know ah love you, right??."

Rainbow nodded. "I know. I love you too."

"And we've been dating fir like what?? Two years?. Ah know you, Rainbow. You hate it when people try ta take care of ya. Ah get that."

"Applejack-." Rainbow sighed.

"Don't." Applejack cut her off sharply.

She sighed. "Sorry. Ah just...... why don't let me take care of you?."

Rainbow folded her arms over her chest, looking away.

"I just don't, okay??. It makes me feel uncomfortable and stuff."

Applejack leaned toward her.

"What do you mean?."

Rainbow sighed.

"You know I grew up in foster care. My mom died when I was little and my dad's in jail because he beat the hell out of me all the time and hated me."

Applejack nodded.

"Well," Rainbow continued, her voice softening. "While I was in foster care, I learned to look out for myself since my brother wasn't able to be with me. I had to survive on my own with all the bad foster parents I had. Some didn't care about me. They only were in it for the money. My first few families refused to feed me and the parents said that children like me didn't deserve it since I didn't have real parents. Some were pretty cool and nice. But I couldn't bring myself to trust them. Not after what I'd been through. So, I learned to not trust anyone and to be independent. I learned to take care of myself and that's how it stayed. I didn't need anyone's help or...... didn't want anyone's help."

Rainbow shrugged. "So it's nothing against you. I'm just not use to getting help since I've been alone my whole life since my mom died."

Applejack now understood. That explained so much.

She hesitantly placed a gentle hand on Rainbow's shoulder.

"Rainbow. Ah'm sorry about all that. You went through hell as a kid, so ah don't blame ya fir not trusting anybody, but....."

"But??"

"But chat can't go through life on yir own. Ah'm here fir you. You know you'll always have me. You may try ta stay strong and be independent. But sooner or later you're gonna have ta have someone help you out someday. Today is that someday."

Rainbow looked down at her lap. Applejack lifted Rainbow's chin up so Rainbow was looking at her.

"Remember when ya first took me to meet your mom??."

Rainbow nodded. Applejack was referring to when she took Applejack to her mom's grave on the anniversary of her death. They just called it "meeting her mom", even though they didn't technically meet.

"Yeah. I remember."

"Well," Applejack said. "When you had walked away, ah promised your mom somethin".

Rainbow raised an eyebrow.

"What did you promise her??."

Applejack smiled. "Ah promised that ah would take care of you for her and always be there when you need someone."

Rainbow felt touched by the promise. A tear ran down her face, as she dwelled on the thought of Applejack taking the place of being her protector for Rainbow's deceased mother.

Rainbow wiped the tear away and sniffled.

"You did??," she asked, her voice cracking.

She cleared her throat, trying to keep away her emotions.

Applejack nodded, smiling softly.

"Yeah," she whispered. "Ah did. And ah I intend ta keep that promise."

Applejack reached out and took Rainbow's left hand.

"You don't have ta be alone anymore. You have me and you always will. Ah love you, Rainbow. Let me take care of you when ya need me. Don't hide things from me. You don't have to hide behind a fake smile and yir ego. There's nothing wrong with lettin' the ones that love you care for you."

Rainbow smiled and nodded.

"Okay."

Applejack scooted closer to Rainbow. She gently cupped Rainbow's bruised up face. Rainbow blinked back tears.

"It hurts." She whimpered.

Applejack nodded. "Ah bet. But don't worry. Ah'm here."

Rainbow nodded. Applejack leaned over and kissed her. Rainbow kissed back softly, placing a hand on Applejack's arm. The kiss was gentle and cautious. Just how Applejack was with Rainbow Dash at times like this. At Rainbow's weak moments.

They broke apart slowly. They looked at each other before embracing each other.

"It was Gilda." Rainbow whispered.

Applejack released her and pulled away.

"What??."

"It was Gilda." Rainbow repeated. "Her and her friends beat me up on my way home."

Applejack took in the information. She slowly nodded.

"Thanks fir being honest with me."

She looked at Rainbow. She lightly patted her on the knee gently.

"C'mon. Let's get you some ice and then give ya some pain medicine and then you're off ta bed."

Rainbow nodded. She went to get up, but Applejack stopped her with a hand in her shoulder. Rainbow looked at her.

"Let me help ya up."

Rainbow sighed and nodded. Applejack stood up. She carefully helped Rainbow stand up, wrapping an arm around her waist. She assisted her upstairs, basically carrying the younger girl.

Rainbow tried to protest but Applejack wasn't hearing any of it. She got Rainbow to their room.

After a few ice packs, and two pain pills, Applejack wrapped Rainbow's ankle up and had her change into some sweats and one of her own t-shirts and sweaters.

Rainbow sighed in relief as Applejack elevated her ankle. The blonde teen made sure she was comfortable in their king sized bed.

"Applejack. I'm fine. You don't have to do all this."

Applejack stuck a tongue out at her, blowing a raspberry.

"Quit chur yapping. Let me do mah job."

Rainbow sighed. She turned her head away so hide the smile threatening to creep onto her face. Finally, Applejack got into bed with her.

"Get some sleep, baby. You need it."

Rainbow laid down. The soft bed made some of the pain go away. Rainbow looked at Applejack.

"Applejack??."

Applejack looked at her.

"Yeah??."

Rainbow smiled. "Thank you. For being you."

Applejack smiled. She scooted closer. Rainbow turned a little on her side. She wrapped an arm around Applejack's waist, resting her head on her shoulder.

"You're welcome, ya stubborn nut."

Rainbow giggled. She relaxed and closed her eyes.

Maybe having someone to take care of her wasn't so bad. She was so glad to have Applejack by her side.

So yeah. It's been a while since I updated this :) so comment below your thoughts and opinion on this
