The cloaked stranger
Applejack noticed someone in the royal stable everyday. She always had a cloak over her so Applejack never knew who she was. Applejack's mother and father and her were the royal Apple family of Canterlot.
Applejack loved going down to the stables everyday to take a ride on her horse. Everyday she would see the person in the stable, brushing her horse's mane. But every time the person would flee before Applejack could talk to them.
But what confused her the most was the flower and note next to her horse everyday.
Applejack picked up the new note. She smiled. Every time the note would always say something sweet or kind or mysterious.
I bathed her and brushed her mane and tail for you. You're welcome.
soon to be yours -R
"What??".
Applejack looked at the partially opened barn door. She rushed over to it. Opened it she looked up and froze. She saw someone mounting a white horse just down the field. Applejack stared at the cloaked person, bringing her hand up to the wooden barn door.
She looked at the horse. She noticed a star mark on the horse's saddle. Applejack would have to remember that.
The blonde felt herself freeze when the person turned and looked at her. Their face was hidden from her sight.
Whether it was the distance between them or the cloak over their head, Applejack couldn't see their face.
But something about them was very mysterious. She liked that. The person turned and they rode off. Applejack ran to the field. She saw that the person was heading towards the village.
Applejack's eyes widened. Was the person from her kingdom??.
Looking down at the flower and note, she sighed.
"What are you looking at??".
Applejack quickly turned around. She relaxed when she saw her father standing there. The man had his arms crossed. He had blonde hair and a beard. He looked just like his daughter. Tan skin, green eyes and all.
But only Celestia knew where Applejack got her freckles from because she didn't get from either parent.
"Who was that??".
"Ah don't know", Applejack said shaking her had.
"But ah do know that they're one that's been leavin those notes next ta Buttermilk everyday. They even bathed her taday".
Applejack smiled at the note.
The king smiled. He liked to see his daughter so happy about someone.
"Ah think ah love em dad".
The king wa surprised. He raised his eyebrows for emphasis.
"Oh really??".
Applejack nodded looking out at the village.
"Ah know ah do".
"What about princess Rainbow Dash??. You're supposed to be wedded by the day after tomorrow".
Applejack frowned. Oh yeah. She had forgotten. She was supposed to marry the princess of Cloudsdale. She was a beautiful and amazing girl. Applejack had also fallen for the princess.
Applejack sighed.
"Just great".
Her father laughed.
"Well. You have a date with her today. So get to know her more and try to get your mind off this stranger".
Applejack nodded. "Yes papa".
The man smiled, gave a nod and walked away. Applejack walked up to her horse Buttermilk. Petting her, Applejack smiled.
"Do you know who she is??".
Of coarse the horse said nothing. Applejack laughed quietly.
"Well. Ah gotta get ready fir mah date. Ah'll bring ya with me. We're havin a ride through the fields".
Applejack walked into the castle as a few servants came in to get her horse ready.
----------------------
Applejack sighed. She stood beside her father. They were waiting the arrival of the princess.
"You think she'll be okay ta ride??", Applejack asked. She didn't want Rainbow to be uncomfortable around horses.
"I'm sure she'll be just fine my dear", her father replied smiling.
Suddenly the sound of hooves was heard. Applejack turned her head. Her eyes widened. She saw a white horse coming towards the castle. There was guards riding behind her.
On the horse was a person with a cloak over them. It was the mystery note person. Applejack and her father realized this and looked at eachother.
"I guess we get to meet them after all", her father chuckled.
The horse stopped in front of them. It had a star mark on the saddle. Applejack watched silently as the person walked up to Applejack's waiting horse. They lightly brushed the horse's mane. It was quiet for a few minutes.
Applejack finally stepped up.
"Who are you??".
The person turned around. Applejack could see a royal blue dress. It was a girl.
The girl stood before her. Their hands reached up and took off the hood. It fell to her shoulders. Applejack's eyes widened.
"Princess Rainbow".
Applejack was shocked. She did not see that coming. Princess Rainbow smiled.
"Hi".
Applejack walked up to her.
"So. You're the one that keeps leavin those notes an flowers an brushes mah horse's mane everyday??".
Rainbow nodded. "Yeah. I just thought I'd give you a little mystery in your life".
Applejack laughed. "Wow. Well played your highness".
Rainbow laughed, clasping her hands.
"Thank you. I am sure you enjoyed the mystery of it all. So........ what did you think of the whole thing??".
Applejack smiled at the ground and then back up at her.
"Ah think ah fell more in love with you than before".
Rainbow was shocked.
"You love me??".
Applejack nodded. "Of coarse. Ah don't see why ah shouldn't".
Rainbow blushed. "Well. Thank you".
Applejack smiled.
"So. Ready ta go??", she asked.
Rainbow nodded. Applejack helped her up onto her horse before getting on her own. Buttermilk seemed to be happy that Rainbow was there. The two, with guards a distance away, headed down to the field.
The two rode around for hours on end before just walking, hand in hand.
Applejack's head was swimming with thoughts. She looked at Princess Rainbow. The girl was smiling, picking up flowers from the ground and sticking them in her and Applejack's hair.
"Why??", Applejack suddenly asked.
Rainbow looked up at her. Applejack turned and faced her.
"Why did you do it??. The notes. The flowers. Bathin and brushin the horses everyday".
Rainbow smiled and looked at her.
"I just did it because I knew you'd find it interesting. Plus, I was too shy to actually say those things to you or give you those flowers in person".
Applejack smiled. "Well. It meant alot to me that someone would say those things ta me".
Rainbow smiled. Applejack looked into her eyes.
"Plus. I wanted to make sure that I was worth your time".
Rainbow frowned. She sighed and turned away, folding her arms.
"My parents died when I was very young".
Applejack hadn't known they were dead. She just assumed that the princess's parents never came around to meet her.
"Ah'm so sorry".
Rainbow shrugged. "I never had anybody to love me before. So I had to make sure that this you would give me just that. Love".
Princess Applejack was shocked. She didn't think of it that way.
"I mean, yes we're marrying because my people will starve and me along with them but...... but I also wanted to be sure that I could get something else from this marriage. To be loved. And I had to find out if you'd be interested in me for me".
Applejack smiled. "Well your highness. Ah can assure you that you have nothin ta worry about. Ah fell in love when ah first metcha".
Rainbow smiled. She felt her cloak with careful fingers.
"Also. Ah liked the mystery behind the cloak. Nice touch".
Rainbow giggled. "Thanks. Wanted to keep my identity a secret. Wanted to keep you guessing".
"You did a great job at that".
The girls smiled at eachother. They didn't realize they were so close to eachother, they were basically touching.
"You're smart", Applejack said. "Comin up with the whole thing".
Rainbow smiled. "I get my cleverness from my father".
Applejack smiled. "Ah don't think Ah'll ever in a trillion years regret the decision ta volunteer ta marry you".
Applejack took the princess by the hand.
"And don't worry. Ah'll take care of both you and our kingdoms. Your people will be okay".
Rainbow smiled up at the blonde.
"Thank you Applejack. You're very sweet and kind".
Applejack chuckled. "Ah get it from mah mom".
The girls laughed. Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash.
"Ah said ah loved you. Do you love me??".
Rainbow bit her lip. Her eyes fell to the ground.
"I've never really had any form of love from anyone. So I don't know how to love someone or what it feels like to be loved".
Applejack frowned. Rainbow's sad eyes looked everywhere but Applejack. The blonde princess reached a hand out and touched her cheek.
"Don't worry", she said. "Ah can help you with that".
Applejack leaned in and kissed her. Rainbow let her. She softly kissed back, resting her hand on Applejack's strong tan arms. They pulled away and looked at eachother.
Rainbow reached into a pocket. She took out a piece of paper and a flower.
She looked up to see Applejack holding the same. The girls laughed. They exchanged gifts.
Rainbow read her note.
I think you stop my heart. Who are you??.
She smiled and looked at Applejack, playing with the flower. It was a rose. Applejack smiled at her note.
I'll be waiting for you at the end of the aisle.
Your bride to be,
-R
