----------------------------
The bell rang. Students quickly headed into their classrooms, some saying goodbye to friends, some walking with their friends, other students with their significant other, and others headed to skip class by hanging out in the bathrooms with their friends.
But there was one girl that walked all alone into her algebra 2 class. Her name was Rainbow Dash. Rainbow walked with her head down, clutching her book bag strap nervously, a book tucked in her left arm. Rainbow Dash was your typical nerd. Amazing grades, always having a book with her, super smart, came to class on time, had no friends because of the previous list.
She couldn't help it. People didn't like her anyway. She was a social freak in their eyes because of her crazy hair and magenta hued eyes. Everyone else has bronze or blue or green or even purple eyes. Never magenta. So people thought she was weird.
Rainbow also shied away from anyone that went near her. So people thought there was something wrong with her.
So Rainbow lived out her high school days alone and alienated. The only person that in Rainbow's life that hasn't thought she was weird was her mom. Her mother died during 8th grade for Rainbow Dash. Rainbow had taken it pretty hard. Her mom was the only one that had accepted her for who she was and still loved her despite her inability to make friends as an antisocial child and was her only friend. Rainbow had slowly gotten past it. Teachers took pity on her and let her work alone if she requested and let her work on other things, since she was able to learn and complete her classwork faster than her classmates.
They always told her to come to them if she ever needed to confide in them. Especially Ms.Cheerilee. The nicest teacher you'll ever find. She understood Rainbow Dash and gently urged but didn't push her to talk to anyone or work in groups if she didn't want to. Rainbow had social anxiety so Ms.Cheerilee would let her show her supposed to be group assignment after class when no one was there or she'd just come over to Rainbow's desk in the left front corner of the class and look it over silently.
The two would talk every so often during lunch when Rainbow would come to her class to hide from the rest of the students in the cafeteria. Last time she ate in there, her tray was taken from her and all her food was thrown out by some jocks who thought it was fun to pick on her. Even Principal Celestia had to step in whenever she witnessed the bullying.
Rainbow always said nothing to her bullies, in fear of getting hurt. She didn't need to get hurt more than she already did.
Rainbow mentally prepared herself as she walked into the room. She suddenly collided with someone, making her flinch and drop her book. She looked up immediately. Her eyes widened. Oh god, someone kill her.
She saw one of the most popular and most beautiful girls in school, Applejack Smith, standing there, rubbing her head where the two had bumped. Applejack looked up at her.
"I am so sorry, Applejack." Rainbow blurred out. "I-I didn't mean to. I wasn't watching where I was going. Gosh, I'm such an-."
"It's fine." Applejack said, smiling. "Ah'm alright. Are you okay??."
Rainbow nodded. "I-I-I think s-so."
She noticed the absence of her book. She looked around on the floor. She spotted the book right by Applejack's feet.
"Oh um".
Applejack looked down at the book, probably have heard the thud when it fell. She knelt down and picked it up. She brushed off any dirt or dust from the floor that might've gotten on it.
"Here you go." She said, holding the book out.
Rainbow had to hide a blush. This was not happening. Applejack was talking to her. To her. This couldn't be real. Rainbow slowly reached out and took the book. She adjusted her book bag on her shoulder and brushed a piece of hair behind her left ear.
"Thank you." She said meekly.
Applejack gave a nod. "No problem, Rainbow."
Wait a frikkin second.
"You know my name??." She asked, obviously shocked.
Applejack nodded. "Yeah. Ah know everyone. C'mon. We should get inside."
Rainbow was still in shock but nodded. They walked into the classroom. Chatter filled the room. Rainbow immediately heard,
"Fuck, Rainbow. Watch where you're going."
Rainbow turned her head to see a group of boys from the football team looking at her. Rainbow wasn't sure who had said that, but she didn't care.
She turned around and headed straight to her desk. She sat down, hanging her bag on the back of her chair. She took out her stuff for that class, including her red personal water bottle, red composition notebook and a red mechanical pencil. She really liked red.
She opened up to the first page and started on the Do Now that was on the smartboar, ignoring the chatter in the room.
"Psst!."
Rainbow looked up at the sound. Turning her her head to her right, she saw a girl smiling at her. She had big, bright blue eyes, and pink curly, poofy hair. Her smiled was pretty friendly but it still made Rainbow freeze up.
"Hi, I'm Pinkie Pie." The girl said. "I've been placed next to you in like all of your classes all year, but I don't think we've properly met. You never talk to anyone so you must not have any friends. You seem lonely but really nice. I wasn't sure if I should talk to you since you always liked to be alone, but no one likes being alone. I don't have any friends either. People think I'm weird, but weird is good in my opinion. Wanna be friends??."
Rainbow was had to process all that information. She looked Pinkie up and down. She knew who Pinkie was. She was like her.
No friends, rejected by everyone in the school except teachers. Everyone thought Pinkie was really weird. She was. Pinkie constantly talked when given the chance and she always said the weirdest things. So, people stayed away from her. Rainbow stayed away from everyone, so Pinkie was no different, regardless of her strangeness or not.
Rainbow wasn't so sure about this. She was feeling pretty crappy that day. She had always struggled with keeping friends she had. They all left. So what was the point?? What the heck. Why not? They could be weird together. She was tired of being alone anyway. She'd give the girl a chance.
"Okay." She shrugged her shoulders.
Suddenly she was being squeezed, making her flinch and freeze up. Pinkie was hugging her around her stomach tightly.
"Um...... Pinkie." She said. "You're hurting me. I'm happy you're my friend too, but let go please."
Pinkie quickly let her go.
"Sorry."
Rainbow sucked in some air, letting it fill her lungs. After a few seconds, she smiled shyly at the pink haired girl.
"No worries." She said.
"Alright class." The teacher suddenly said, walking up to the front of the class.
"Let's get started. We don't have much to do today because it's hot out and it's way too hot to do much and I know you guys are sticky and icky and feel all gross and tired from the long school day. Luckily this is your last class before the end of the day, so let's push through it together."
The other students groaned. Rainbow silently sighed. She glanced at Pinkie who looked at her like "oh my god. End my suffering"
Rainbow smiled for the first time all day.
The class went on as usual. Rainbow and Pinkie stayed silent as other students gave answers and discussed things. Rainbow and Pinkie did their work and handed it in, amazing the teacher once again.
"Of course they're done first." A girl named Trixie scoffed. "They're losers with nothing better to do than to show off to their imaginary friends."
"But unlike you, I have a real friend." Rainbow mumbled under her breath.
"What was that?!."
Rainbow jumped. She looked up to see Trixie standing up, glaring at her.
Rainbow shrunk away, her confidence in her ability to speak disappearing.
"Nothing!."
Everyone turned to look at what was going on.
Trixie walked up to Rainbow and Pinkie Pie.
"Leave her alone, Trixie." Pinkie said, standing up to the white haired girl.
"Leave her alone, Trixie." Trixie mocked. "Shut up."
Trixie looked at Rainbow who wanted nothing more than to disappear right then and there.
"And you. Don't think you're anything special. You're nothing but a friendless loser that will never fit in and no body will ever like. No one likes you here other than this other freak. So be quiet and stay out of everyone's way. Got it?."
"How dare you speak ta her that way."
Nobody was expecting that. Trixie turned her head. Rainbow and Pinkie peered around her to see who had the guts to stood up to Trixie Star.
Rainbow's jaw dropped. Amongst her group of friends, who were also standing up, arms crossed and mean looks on their faces, was Applejack.
"What did you just say?" Trixie challenged.
Applejack marched up to Trixie, her hands balled into fists.
"Ah said, how dare you speak ta her that way. You're not better than anyone else in here, Trixie."
The two stood in front of each other.
"You act all high n' mighty but ya ain't. No one likes a bitch. And you're actin' like one all the time." Applejack snapped. "So shut up, sit down, and leave them alone. They did nothin' to ya so leave em alone or else."
Trixie glared at Applejack, but rolled her eyes and turned around.
"Whatever. Those freaks are not worth my time."
She strutted away as if she'd won the argument. Applejack walked up to Rainbow and Pinkie.
"You alright, Sugarcube??." She asked Rainbow Dash, genuine concern in her eyes.
Rainbow nodded. "Thanks for what you did. You didn't have to."
Applejack shrugged. "She was pickin' on ya. That ain't right."
Rainbow looked down at the floor, trying not to blush. This was so not happening. Applejack Smith was not talking to her. This wasn't happening.
"Well, thanks." She said again.
Applejack smiled, staring at her.
Suddenly the bell rang, making Rainbow jump.
"I gotta get home." Rainbow said.
Applejack frowned.
"Oh okay."
She seemed disappointed.
"Hey uh, do ya wanna hang out with me and mah friends tomorrow during' school??."
Rainbow's eyes widened. "Really??."
Her?? Hang out with the cool kids? Someone pinch her.
Applejack nodded. "Yeah. Mah friends are all as nice as ah am so don't worry about any teasin'. What do ya say?"
Rainbow then remembered Pinkie. She looked at her new friend. Pinkie has a dejected look at her face, but was trying to hide it with a smile. Rainbow felt bad.
She looked at Applejack, stepping to Pinkie's side.
"Only if Pinkie can come, too." She said boldly. "She's my only friend and I don't want to leave her alone."
Applejack smiled and shrugged. "Okay. Ah got no problem with that. Ah'll see y'all tomorrow."
Rainbow gave a nod. "Y-Yeah. T-Tomorrow."
Applejack smiled and walked away with her friends. Rainbow and Pinkie stood there in shock. They looked at each other with wide eyes. Then they started to freak out, squealing and jumping up and down like the stereotypical school girls with a crush.
"Omg she talked to you." Pinkie squealed. "This was so cool."
"I know." Rainbow said giddily. "Best day ever."
Pinkie smiled. "I'm glad we're friends. Thanks for including me and not ditching me to be with Applejack and her friends."
Rainbow grinned. "Eh. It was no biggie. I couldn't just leave you hanging. That would be so uncool of me. Then, I'm not cool anyway. But still that would've sucked."
"You totally have like the hugest crush on Applejack." Pinkie said, smirking.
Rainbow blushed deeply.
"I-I No I don't. Wh-What made you think...."
Pinkie gave her a look.
"You're not fooling me." She sang.
Rainbow looked away, embarrassed. "Promise not to tell??."
Pinkie smiled brightly. "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye."
Rainbow raised an eyebrow. Then she giggled. "You sure are something else, Pinkie Pie." She sighed. "I like that."
"Do you have a phone??." Pinkie asked.
Rainbow nodded. She took her phone of her her back pocket and held it up. He unlocked it, knowing what Pinkie wanted. Pinkie took the phone and put in her phone number.
"Here you go." She said, handing it back.
"Text me later."
Rainbow put her phone away. She actually had someone's number that wasn't a family member. Wow. Today was turning out amazing.
Rainbow smiled. "Oh uh okay. I'll see ya tomorrow cause I really gotta get home now."
Pinkie nodded. "Yeah. Bye Rainbow."
Rainbow and Pinkie headed to their lockers and out the door of the school.
Rainbow waved at Pinkie before she hurried down the street to her house. She ran all the the way home which was four blocks away.
She realized she was late and that meant nothing good. Rainbow unlocked the front door with her house key and walked in, looking around. She closed the door, and locked it.
"You're late, girl."
Rainbow jumped. She spun around to see her dad, Lightning Dash, standing there, arms crossed, bottle of vodka in one hand. He'd been drinking.
"I-I um I made a friend, Dad, and we were talking." Rainbow said. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again."
Lightning laughed. Rainbow was frozen in fear. She knew what was going to happen next.
Her dad became serious.
"Of course you won't. Because, I'm gonna show ya what happens when you're late."
He put his vodka bottle down on a nearby shelf, the glass making a hollow thud on the wood. Rainbow watched him, carefully, feeling unable to move because of the fear she felt. She was terrified. Her dad marched up to her. Rainbow knew better than to run. It only made it worse for her. Her dad grabbed her harshly by the upper arm, making her flinch, and swung his fist.
So yeah. Let me know what you think :) part two will most likely be up tomorrow
