Love knows the heart part 2
Enjoy :)
Months, and nearly a year, went by quickly. Skittles and Applejack had become quite close friends, texting each other and on in nights when Skittles' dad wasn't home, they'd be at the window, quietly joking around and laughing, Applejack telling Rainbow everything about her day at her company. Applejack had recently graduated high school and all her friends were going off to college or something.
Twilight was now working for the government. Skittles thought that was pretty cool. Pinkie Pie wanted a job as professional party planner so she went to business school. Fluttershy went to vet school. Rarity went to fashion and design school.
Shocker.
Applejack. Well she became the CEO of her family apple cider and apples company. Granny Smith apples were becoming own of the most famous apple brands in Equestria. She became a busy girl, going to meetings to be able to expand the company further out, helping out in the work field during the day. It was a lot of work.
But she always made time for Skittles.
Applejack would come home from work each day and go up to her room. She'd ignore everything else and sit at her window, her phone in hand, typing away to the girl on the other side.
Those were her favorite moments in her day. Talking to Skittles, laughing, telling Skittles about her day and the things going on in the world. Skittles wouldn't say much about herself, just how she was doing, what she had done that day which mostly consisted of eating, sleeping, watching tv, and organizing meetings for her dad. She still wouldn't say what her dad did for a living.
So Applejack didn't ask. It didn't matter. As long as Skittles was there and safe.
Applejack chuckled into the phone.
"Yeah. She's good. Still won't tel me nothin."
"How long have you two been friends??."
Applejack thought about it.
"Mmmm........ nine..... maybe ten months months Ah'm guessin."
"Wow. A year now?? Where were we all that time?? And how is that going??."
Applejack smiled. It was great. She couldn't ask for a better friend. Skittles was funny, rambunctious, hyper, sweet, a bit of a hothead, stubborn, kinda on the crazy side of daring when she gets bored.
"It's going pretty good. She's on your guys' level of friendship right about now, ah reckon."
"Wow." Twilight sounded surprise. "She must something special. I really wish we could meet her."
Applejack hummed in response.
"Yeah. She is special."
Applejack sighed, her mind drifting off. "She's............. amazing, Twi. She's smart, funny, beautiful beyond compare to anyone else. She's sweet and darin' and she can be a smart ass. She just makes me wanna kiss her sometimes cuz she rambles when she's nervous or scared, but she tries ta hide it and look tough-."
"Kiss her??"
Applejack paused. Her eyes widened. Had she really just said that?? Out loud??
Applejack felt her cheeks burned.
"Um........yeah."
Twilight made a teasing sound.
"Someone has a crush, Sunset." Twilight said as if she was talking to someone Applejack couldn't see.
"Wait." She said. "Is Sunset Shimmer there??."
Twilight made a mhm. "Yeah. We're working together now. Crazy, right?."
Applejack wasn't surprised. Those two were some of the smartest girls she knew. So it wasn't a surprise they got such high positioned jobs so early on in life.
"Yeah. Kinda."
"Hold on. Sunset wants to talk to you."
"Alright." Applejack said.
There was a shifting sound for a moment.
"Hey." Came Sunset's voice.
"Hey. What's up??." Applejack replied, having not talked to Sunset in what felt like forever.
"So I hear you have a little crush on your mysterious next door neighbor??."
Applejack's blush reddened, the tips of her ears burning.
"Ah don't know."
"Well, let's figure it out. How do you feel about her??."
Applejack sighed. "Ah feel like everythin' is perfect. Mah favorite part of the day is sitt'n down at night and talkin' to her till we get stupidly tired."
"Can you imagine yourself kissing her, holding her hand, holding her in general. Can you imagine dating her?? Being her girlfriend??."
"Yeah." Applejack replied without skipping a beat.
"Yeah. You like her. Big time. And I'm guessing you've felt this way about her for quite some time??."
"Yeah." AJ admitted. "Probably since a few weeks after we started talking. About a year ago."
"You should tell her. Just so she knows and so you know where you stand in your friendship. Does she like girls too??."
"Yeah. She plays for same team."
"Then you have a chance since she doesn't exactly talk to much people from what Twilight has told me. Tell her. It won't be the end of the world if she wants to stay friends."
Applejack took a deep breath. She exhaled through her nose.
"Okay."
Suddenly a tap on her window scared her. She quickly sat up, looking over at the window. Applejack saw the last person she thought she'd see at her window at this time of night.
Skittles. She was outside her bedroom, her feet on the window sill, holding on the walls of the house. She had on her stupid hoodie and dark as hell sunglasses on in the middle of the night.
"What the..........."
"What's wrong, Applejack??." Sunset asked.
Applejack must've had the craziest look on her face because she saw Skittles giggling. How on earth did she.....
"It's Skittles. She's right outside mah window right now. How is she here??." She said in disbelief
"Open your window and let her in before she falls!." Sunset commanded. "We'll call you later. Tell her how you feel about her and good luck. If she doesn't feel the same way, remember it's not the end of the world."
"Bye." Applejack said before she hung up.
Applejack quickly stood up, tossing her lightly phone onto the bed. She hurried over to the window. She opened it.
"Skittles?? What in tarnation are you doin??."
Skittles grinned at her.
"Heyyyy." She greeted, as if to say 'I did a crazy stupid thing. Don't be mad. Surprise??'.
Applejack blinked, hardly believing Skittles was outside her home and here. Here. Skittles bit her lip.
"Can you help me in?? I'm stuck and I'm scared to move."
Applejack looked at Skittles' position.
"Oh."
She reached out and took Skittles' by the waist and arm. She helped the younger girl climb inside. She closed the window and pulled the curtains closed.
She looked at Skittles with wide eyes. Wow. She was here. In her house. Applejack looked at her from head to toe. She was even more beautiful up close. She was a little shorter than Applejack thought she'd be. Her eyes were big and beautiful. Her body was on the fit side. A little arm muscle made her look toned. She probably did sit ups. Her chest. Skittles was........ just as amazing far away in the dark.
"How did you do that?? H-How are you here." Applejack asked, keeping her voice down, afraid someone might hear her, even though they were alone.
Skittles took off her sunglasses, and put them in in her hoodie pocket. She bit her lip, a uneasy expression on her face.
"I had to see you." She said, wringing her hands. "In person. I mean-."
She made a face, as if realizing a mistake she made.
"I mean technically we were always face to face. But I mean, actually meet up close. Y'know. Not from our windows. I had to see you, and I couldn't wait any longer and so I waited till my dad was gone. He won't be back for hours and so I took the chance and I climbed out and then-."
Skittles was cut off. Applejack took her upper arms and stepped up to her. She pulled her in, their lips touching. Skittles' eyes widened. She was frozen for a split second before she relaxed her tensed up body and kissed back. She wrapped her arms around Applejack's neck, pressing their lips together even more. Applejack blissfully pulled her in by her waist.
Skittles tasted like vanilla. Applejack was on cloud nine at the moment. Skittles kissed back. That must mean something. Skittles didn't do things for no reason. She had a reason and purpose for everything.
They broke away, panting. Skittles looked at Applejack in surprise.
"Wow."
"In case ya couldn't tell, ah like you and I thought you should know that even if ya don't feel that same." Applejack blurted out.
Skittles was in shock for a moment.
"I like you, too." She said, her voice quiet. "But we can't be together."
Applejack frowned. "Why not?? Why are you at mah window at this time of night in the first place??."
Applejack crossed her arms. Skittles, looked back at the window. She walked over to it. She peeked out, looking both ways to check is anyone was there. She walked back over to Applejack. Applejack was beginning to get worried, forgetting about the kiss that had just happened.
"Skittles. What's wrong?? What is it?"
Skittles walked up to her.
"I need to tell you everything." She said.
Applejack was shocked. After all these months of their friendship, Skittles was finally going to tell her everything?
Applejack led her over to the her bed and they sat down, facing each other.
"You're gonna want me out of this house as soon as I tell you everything." Skittles sighed. "I can tell you'll want nothing to do with me."
"Just tell me what's wrong." Applejack said. "Spit it out."
Skittles a took a deep breath. She let it out. She went to stand up, but Applejack grabbed her wrist, keeping her in place.
"Nope. You don't gotta be scared of me, Skittles. Ah ain't gonna hurt cha or whatever you think ah'll do. Just tell me. It's okay."
Skittles rolled her eyes.
"It's not okay, AJ. My dad is a-."
She huffed and looked away. Applejack could tell this was really hard for her to say. To finally tell someone a big secret that her whole life revolved around.
Applejack lightly took Skittles by the hand.
"Dude. C'mon." She gently assured her. "It's just me. Tell me."
Skittles nodded. She once again took a deep breath and then released.
"My dad is......... kinda....... sorta......... maybe.......... well....... he's uh...... well he's what people on the news would call a......"
The two made eye contact.
"Drug Lord and gang leader?." She said, more like a question than a statement.
Applejack's eyes widened. She stared at Skittles for a moment. Skittles bit her lip, waiting for her to say something.
"Wow." AJ said. "That's kinda crazy."
Skittles nodded.
Applejack couldn't believe it. Her father was a dangerous man. Applejack had seen a lot of documentaries on gangs and drug lords. The went to jail for A WHILE. They killed people that rivaled them or crossed them.
Applejack let it sink in.
"Wait what??!!."
Skittles stood up. She nodded.
"Yeah." She said, in a panicky tone as she began to babble out words. "He's kinda a big deal in the streets. No, I've never done drugs. I'm completely clean of that crap. He doesn't let me in the same room as the stuff. He doesn't want me to be involved in that stuff if I ever have to run away to hide. He's kinda wanted in a few parts of Equestria and people hate him. He's the leader of the biggest gang in these parts and so people want him dead, so I'm not allowed outside. They don't know he has a kid, because he kept me and my mom a secret, but my mom left me. She kinda just skipped town and left me with him when I was eight. I'm pretty sure she's living in the country, on the outskirts of Equestria but I haven't seen her. I went to school up until a-a year or two ago. I had to drop out and take online classes because people from other gangs kinda want him dead more than ever now and so he doesn't let me go outside for anything other than to get the mail at night. I didn't want to tell you because I was afraid of losing my only friend. And now we might have to leave town because the police are on to him and my life is being torn apart and I can't breathe and I'm scared and I don't wanna die and-."
"Skittles!."
Skittles stopped rambling, her breathing hard. She looked at Applejack through tear filled eyes. Applejack got up. She walked up to her and pulled her into a hug. Skittles didn't respond.
"I haven't had a hug in years. Is this what this is??."
Applejack nodded. "Yup. Now hug back cuz you need one."
Skittles slowly wrapped her arms around Applejack, returning the comforting gesture. She rested her head on the CEO's shoulder.
"You're not mad??."
Applejack chuckled. "Why would ah?? It ain't chur fault that chur dad is a criminal."
Skittles sighed. "I'm scared, Applejack. I don't know what to do. No one knows about me. If my dad's arrested, I don't know what they'll do to me for knowing in the first place."
Skittles sighed. "This is why we can't b together, AJ. Your life will be filled with so much drama and fear. You could be killed if some people find out who I am and if you're seen with me out in public. Your life is at risk by just having me here."
Skittles stood up.
"I don't want that for your life. Your successful and a good person. I have a shitty life with no future and no one that loves me-."
"Ah love you."
Skittles paused. Applejack stood up. She sighed.
"Skittles. That is a really big secret. A huge one. It must be terrifying to know that you're the daughter of someone who has probably hurt or killed people and is being searched for by the police. It must be hard havin' ta hide from the world ta keep yit existence a secret. Ah understand yir reasons fir not tellin' me who you really are. Ah do. And it must so scary to know that anyone that gets too close ta you would turn away at the truth."
Skittles nodded. Applejack walked up to her. She rested her hands on Skittles' upper arms. She smiled gently.
"But that don't scare me. Ah wanna help you."
Skittles looked at her as if she was crazy.
"You do?? Wait, why?? Why would you want to still be around me, knowing that if people knew who I am, they'd look at you differently. Your reputation could be destroyed in the business world. You could be watched by the police, too. They might think we're in on it. I can't rip your life apart like mine is."
Applejack shook her head.
"Ah know you think Ah'm crazy, but ah don't care. It's a family business and we sell apples and apple cider for Pete sake. What will people be afraid of?? That we suddenly put weed and crack cocaine and crystal meth in the apples and that's why they taste so good??. No. Skittles. Ah can help you get away from this life. Do ya even wanna stay with yir dad??."
Skittles shook her head. "And no one knows who I am on the streets, so I'd be safe out in public if I wasn't living with my dad."
Applejack smiled. "We can use that. Trust me. Ah have friends. Smart friends that like you already. They'll be able ta help."
Skittles sighed. "Will we have to call the police on my dad??."
Applejack nodded. Skittles sighed, crossing her arms.
"Number one rule of the streets. Protect your own." She whispered. "God. He's gonna hate me."
Her eyes widened.
"He could have me hunted down and killed for ratting him out. No one tells on family."
"No, Skittles." Applejack said. "If he wanted you dead, you would be dead by now. He won't rat you out. He won't know you told. Ah got a plan."
Skittles bit her lip. "I really wanna believe everything will work out, but I don't think it will. I can't."
Applejack held her hands.
"Do ya trust me??."
Skittles nodded.
"Then trust me. We can help cha some help. We can. It's very very possible. Ah know people. It's what they do. Ah'll call someone right now and we can put this plan inta action."
Skittles bit her lip. She looked up at Applejack.
"You're not gonna let me leave, are you??."
Applejack shook her head. "Not a chance. Ah'm not letting you put chur life at risk. Ah'm protectin you."
Skittles smiled a little. "Okay. We can try."
Applejack smiled. "Ah'll go call some friends."
Applejack grabbed her phone off the bed and went to go into the hall. She was suddenly grabbed by the arm. She turned around and looked at Skittles.
"Wait."
"Yeah??." Applejack asked. "What's wrong??."
Skittles shook her head. "Nothing. I just........."
She looked at the floor, taking a deep breath. She looked up at Applejack boldly.
"My name is Rainbow Dash."
Applejack smiled at the information. She turned to her.
"Ah love that name. It suits you."
Rainbow smiled. It made butterflies flutter around inside of Applejack.
She held up her phone.
"Ah'll go make that call."
-------------------------------
And so the plan was set in action. Applejack called up her friends. They finally got to meet Rainbow Dashand they were so excited. Rainbow explained to them everything, without the panic and tears and fear of rejection.
The girls sprung into immediate action. Twilight called up some people from the FBI that gave her instructions. Rainbow was to stay where they were and not leave.
Not even a few hours later the girls watched as Rainbow's father was led away from the home, a bag over his head. Rainbow sobbed quietly on Applejack's bed, consumed with guilt. Applejack consoled her, making sure she knew it was for the best that Rainbow's father went away.
After Rainbow's dad was taken away, a police officer in disguise came to talk to Rainbow Dash and Applejack.
He asked a million questions, like her home life, how long had she known about her dad, if she was part of a gang or doing/ selling drugs herself. The man believed her honest answers, claiming to know exactly what Rainbow had been through.
"I was in a gang when I was a kid. Stupid idea."
Rainbow's eyes widened. "Really??."
The officer nodded. "I left that life behind me and vowed to give my life to putting those kinds of people away. Now, here I am, helping you."
Rainbow sighed. "So, what now??."
"Well, do you have anyone to live with??." The officer asked.
Rainbow shrugged and shook her head.
"Actually." Applejack spoke up. "She's eighteen so she could live on her own. Or......."
She looked at Applejack.
"You could stay with me, if ya want. Just until you can get a job n' save up some money ta get your own apartment, if that's what cha want. It's up ta you."
Rainbow smiled. "Really?? You'd do that??."
Applejack nodded. "Course. Can't let mah best friend be homeless. Especially since you've literally haven't gone past yir front yard in over two years. There's things bout how the world works and such that you'll need me ta teach ya. For example, social interaction, cuz you're horrible at that."
Rainbow lightly shoved Applejack, laughing.
"Shut up."
Applejack chuckled. "What?? It's true."
Rainbow shrugged. "Eh. Maybe."
"I'll also have to find a family member for you." The officer said. "Just in case. Is there anyone nearby that you know of??."
Rainbow shook her head.
"No. I haven't spoken to any family or seen anyone in the family other than my dad in years. My mom left me when I was a kid and my uncle wanted nothing to do with my dad when he found out about his way of living. I haven't seen him since I was a kid, but I think he's still living in town from my dad told me a few weeks ago."
"What's his name??."
"Strike." Rainbow replied. "Strike Dash. If you get a hold of him, tell him I miss him."
The man nodded. "Will do, Rainbow. And we'll find him. I can promise you that, kid."
Rainbow thanked him and he went to call someone who can track her uncle down.
Rainbow sighed. She looked at Applejack.
"Were you serious about letting me stay here?."
Applejack nodded. "Wouldn't say it if ah wasn't."
Rainbow shrugged. "Why?? Why do you care so much about me?? Until today, you didn't even know my real name. I lied for so long about how things really were in my family. You don't deserve to have me mess up your seemingly perfect life."
The two didn't notice their friends slip out of the room silently, smirking to themselves.
Applejack snorted. "Mah life ain't perfect. Ah'll tell ya that."
Rainbow looked at her hands. Applejack watched her. She smiled.
"Ah don't mind a little chaos." She said. "It keeps things excitin'. Plus, ah ain't lookin' fir someone perfect."
Rainbow looked up.
"You deserve perfect." She said truthfully. "I'm far from normal or perfect. I'm kinda a disaster."
Applejack snorted. "Bullshit. You're great."
Rainbow rolled her eyes.
"Ya are." Applejack argued, moving closer to Rainbow. "You're sweet n' funny, loyal, trustworthy. You're brave, selfless, smart and beautiful."
Rainbow softened. "You think I'm beautiful??."
Applejack nodded. "Yeah. Ah think ah probably said it earlier but ah think the rush of you tellin' me about everythin' kinda made it seem unimportant. But you are beautiful. Very."
Rainbow smiled. "You know. You're probably the greatest human being on earth. I mean........ you're kind....... loyal...... honest........ the the hottest girl I ever met........."
She caught what she just said and blushed. Hard.
Applejack chuckled as Rainbow attempted to hide her face in her hands. The young CEO took Rainbow's hands away from her face.
"It's okay. No need ta be embarrassed. You're speakin' yir mind."
Rainbow looked up at her. She shrugged.
"Well yeah. You are. And beautiful. More like an angel, to be honest, but that's kinda corny and stupid to say."
Applejack poked her nose lightly. "It's sweet."
Rainbow's glanced down at their now joined hands.
"What did I do to deserve you??."
Applejack shrugged. "You're you. That's all that matters. So, stop puttin' yourself down."
Rainbow sighed, looking up at her.
"But I really feel like I'm bad for you and I'll just mess up-."
Applejack let go of her hands and grabbed her by the face. She pressed their lips together, closing her eyes. Rainbow shut up, surprised by the kiss. She smiled and kissed back. She needed no words to assure her that Applejack didn't care.
Applejack pulled Rainbow onto her lap, deepening the kiss, hands running over Rainbow's lower back and hips.
She didn't care about Rainbow's background. She didn't care about the people that Rainbow grew up around. She didn't care that her life might be at risk because of the girl in her arms. All she saw was Rainbow Dash, Skittles, whatever, and saw her good heart and how good of a person she was and how opposite she was to everything and everyone that bad around her.
Applejack saw her heart and loved it. And Applejack wanted Rainbow. And she got her. And she'd never let her go.
