Applejack looked up at the house. It was baby blue, clean looking on the outside and nice.

Applejack looked at her mom, who was getting her bag and laptop out of the car.

"So, what are we doin here again??", she asked.

"I'm in the child protection services. I come to make sure the girl living here is safe and healthy".

Applejack looked back at the house. She was with her mom at her job. Her mom had gotten a call about a possible child abuse situation. Her mom came to check on the teen living here. Applejack asked to tag along. Her mom thought it was a great idea. She could be some help since she said the girl was her age.

The two walked up to the front door. Her mom knocked.

A minute later a man opened it. Applejack looked at him, secretly judging him. This man was probably a child abuser for all she knew.

The man hair short rainbow colored hair, with light blue skin and green eyes. He was tall and had muscles. He wore a smile. The man was wearing jeans and a nice shirt.

"Hi", he said, stepping aside. "Come on in".

Applejack and her mom, Orange, walked inside. Looking around, Applejack examined the place. She wanted to scrutinize very inch of this place. She'd tell her mom if she saw even a small cigarette out of place.

The teen thought the place looked nice. White wall with pictures on the wall, clean wooden floors, air freshener filled the house.

"I'm Lightening", the man said, introducing himself with a warm smile, his hand stuck out.

Applejack watched her mom smile and shake his hand.

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Orange".

"Please", the man said. "Have a seat. You're here to see Rainbow, right??".

Orange nodded her head as the two sat on the sofa. "Yes".

"I'll go get her", the man said.

The man walked out of the room.

"Applejack", Orange said quietly as she got out her laptop and papers.

"I'm gunna need you to help me. We're here because I got a call about a possible child abuse situation. Now, I need you to use you to try and talk to the girl. Nothing much, just a hi and talk to her for a bit. Just study her for any off things about her. The way she talks, her behavior towards her father and us, stuff like that. It's important. She could be in danger so we have to get answers".

Applejack nodded.

"Ah'll do mah best".

Lightning came back with a teenage girl behind him. Applejack thought she was beautiful. Long rainbow colored hair that went to her lower back. Light blue skin, the shade of the sky. She had on a knee length skirt and a hoodie. Applejack felt like she could get along with her if they were friends.

"Hello Rainbow", Orange greeted warmly, with a bright smile.

Rainbow gave a small smile.

"Take a seat".

Rainbow and her father sat down opposite of them. Rainbow sat up straight, hands clasp, back against the sofa. She looked up at Applejack then at Orange, then at her hands.

"I'm Orange", Applejack's mom said. "This is my daughter, Applejack".

Orange motioned to Applejack. Rainbow Dash looked at her and waved. Applejack smiled.

Rainbow smiled at her.

"Hi", she said.

"So, how are you Rainbow??", Orange asked.

"I'm good", Rainbow replied quietly.

"So, you're how old??", Orange asked, getting her pen out.

Rainbow shifted. "Sixteen".

Orange smiled at Applejack.

"You're the same age as Applejack".

The woman laughed lightly.

"Ironic".

Lightning chuckled. "Sure is".

Orange asked Rainbow a few questions. Rainbow replied in short answers. Most the time her dad answered for her, not letting her talk. She mostly just looked at her hands, occasionally looking up.

Applejack watched her closely. She noticed Rainbow looked nervous. Her green eyes shifted to the man. Lightning looked too calm.

Applejack looked back at Rainbow Dash. They'd never get anywhere with this if they couldn't get Rainbow to talk more or have some type of emotion from her. She suddenly had an idea.

Applejack turned to her mom. She tapped her shoulder. Orange looked at her. Applejack leaned over.

She whispered in her ear, "Ask Rainbow Dash a question that'll make her talk fir a little bit. Ah wanna see how her dad will react".

Orange nodded. She looked down at her clipboard. Then she looked at Rainbow Dash.

"So, who lives here??".

"Just me and Rainbow", Lightning answered.

Orange nodded.

"Do you smoke or drink??".

The man shook his head. Rainbow's face suddenly changed. She did a silent roll in her eyes, looking at the floor.

Orange and Applejack immediately noticed. That was weird.

Applejack immediately paid more attention to the teen girl.

"Can I ask you a personal question, Rainbow??", Orange asked.

Rainbow looked at her. She was a little hesitant but nodded.

"What happened to your mom??".

Lightning seemed to tense up at the question. His jaw visibly clentched.

Applejack watched Rainbow looked at her dad, a look in her eyes. Fear??. What was she scared of?.

Rainbow looked back at Orange.

"She died when I was little", she said.

Applejack's eyes widened.

"Ah'm so sorry", she said.

Rainbow looked at her and gave a lopsided smile.

"Thank you".

"Yeah", Orange said. "I'm sorry for your loss. I hope I'm not making you uncomfortable. Can I ask what happened?".

Rainbow sighed, slouching.

"She uh was shot".

Applejack felt bad for her. She lost her mom at a young age and now there's a possibility that her dad abuses her??. Tough life.

"What was she like??", Orange asked.
"If you dont mind me asking, of course. You don't have to talk about your mother if you don't want to".

Rainbow smiled. "It's alright. I love talking about her. My mom was amazing. She was loving and funny and energetic".

Rainbow giggled. "I loved her more than anyone on earth and she loved me like that too. My mom was a professional ice skater. Sbe won a ton of competitions. I remember going to see her practice at the rink. She was amazing. Sometimes she would let me skate with her. She taught me to skate".

Rainbow smiled as she talked, her body relaxing. Applejack liked that she was now relaxed and talking. This was good..

"Her name was Eden. Eden Dash. She was beautiful. I was so lucky to have her around".

Rainbow suddenly teared up.

"I miss her. Not a day goes by I don't think about her".

"She must've been an amazing person", Orange said.

Rainbow nodded. "She was the best. The best skater, the best mom, my best friend and there will be noone that could ever take her place".

Rainbow sighed, drying her eyes.

"You know....".

Rainbow looked up at her dad. The man was giving her a look. She immediately got quiet. She looked at her lap.

"Nevermind".

Lightning chuckled. "I'm sorry about her. She gets carried away when she's talking about Eden".

"No it's fine", Orange said. "She sounds like an amazing person".

Lightning nodded. Rainbow smiled.

"She really was. Alot of people knew her and at the funeral, a ton of people came. I was shocked. I was like wow-".

Suddenly she jumped, causing her to stop. From where Applejack was sitting she could have sworn she saw Lightning kick her leg.

Rainbow shrunk back.

"That's enough talking", Lightning said to Rainbow.

He smiled at Orange.

"Okay", Orange said. "Mr.Dash, can you step out for a moment so I can speak to her alone?".

The man nodded.

"Of coarse".

Rainbow's dad got up. Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash. The girl watched her dad walk out. Once he was gone, Rainbow relaxed. She looked relieved.

"So Rainbow??", Orange said. "I just saw your dad kick you while you were talking".

Okay. So Applejack wasn't the only one to notice. That's good.

"Why??".

Rainbow looked a little panicky and unsure what to say. She kept looking back at the doorway as if checking to see if her dad came back. She looked at the two and smiled.

"Oh uh it's just a thing we do. I tend to talk alot and so he gives me a little kick or tap and flick so I know, okay shut up now".

Rainbow gave a forced laugh.

"It's fine", she said. "Doesn't hurt".

Applejack looked down at Rainbow's leg. There was a small bruise that wasn't there a few minutes ago. Probably from when the man kicked her.

"Rainbow Dash", Orange said. "Is your dad drinking or smoking anything I should know about. I'm from the child protection services and I'd like to ask you a few questions".

Rainbow visibly tensed up. She pulled an obviously fake smile.

"Oh uh okay. Um, yes, my dad does have a drink once in a while. Not much. He doesn't smoke".

"Has he ever been drunk before??".

Rainbow hesitated, Applejack noticed.

"No".

Applejack could tell she lied. That was a thing about her. Applejack could tell if someone was lying to her. It was a gift she had. It was very useful.

"Has your father ever done anything to make you feel uncomfortable to be around him. Has he ever touched you?".

Rainbow shook her head.

"Never".

"Has he ever said anything to you that made you feel uncomfortable??".

Rainbow shook her head.

"Okay. Has he ever hit you??".

"No", Rainbow answered immediately, almost to quickly.

"Just so ya know", Applejack said, getting Rainbow's attention. "This conversation is private. Yir dad won't know what cha said ir say. It stays between us, so don't worry about him guys findin' out".

Rainbow bit her lip. She nodded.

"Alright".

"I noticed that you seem on edge around your dad", Orange said. "Why's that??".

Rainbow fiddled with her hands. .

"Nothing. He's just.... kinda intimidating".

Orange looked worried.

"Are you afraid of him?".

The teen bit her lip. "A little but he wouldn't hurt me".

Orange asked her a fee more questions. They found out that Rainbow was lesbian, which made butterflies flutter in Applejack's stomach. She had a slight chance. No, she couldn't think that.

Applejack couldn't help but feel like Rainbow Dash wasn't being honest with her mom about her dad.

AJ did what her mom told her to do. When it got quiet in the room, Applejack would smile at her and joke with her, easing her tension. Orange closed her laptop.

"Well that's all the information I need. I think we're done here. Let's get your dad back in here".

Rainbow nodded.

"You sure there's nothing else you wanna tell me??. You don't have to hide anything".

Rainbow shook her head.

"Alright".

Orange stood up.

"Mr.Dash??", she called.

A moment later Rainbow's dad walked in.

"We're done here", Orange said. "It was nice meeting you".

She shook his hand, Applejack doing the same. She smiled at Rainbow but the teen was looking at the floor. Applejack frowned. She couldn't help but feel something was wrong here.

She and her mom was walked to the front door. Lightning opened it for them. The two turned to leave.

"Wait", Rainbow suddenly said.

Applejack and Orange looked at her. Was she going to confess??.

Rainbow had fear and desperation in her eyes. Lightning suddenly grabbed her arm. Applejack noticed. His grip was strong. Too strong.

"Yes Rainbow??", Applejack said. "What's up?".

Rainbow looked unsure of what to say. She glanced at her dad then at then.

"I...... I uh just I'm wanted to say that you look pretty, Applejack".

Rainbow smiled slightly.

Applejack smiled. "Thanks. You're beautiful if you don't mind me saying that".

Rainbow blushed. Applejack took a step closer.

"Ah mean it. You are. You know, ah like girls too so you're not alone".

"You do??", Rainbow asked.

Applejack smiled. "Yup".

Rainbow's smile brightened. "That's cool. Maybe-".

"Well it was nice meeting you", Lightning interrupted.

Rainbow was moved out the way. The man shook their hands again. Applejack watched Rainbow go up the stairs. The teen looked back at her, standing on the stairs, hands on the rail. She had a look of fear in her eyes.
She mouthed something to her.

'Help me'.

Applejack stared at her. She felt a hand take her arm. Orange pulled her out of the house. Once the door shut, she turned to her mom.

"She's in trouble", she said.

Orange looked at her.

"She mouthed ta me, help me", she said.

"That worries me", Orange said.

Suddenly Applejack heard something coming from inside the house. Applejack looked at the door. She leaned over and pressed her ear against the wood. She heard yelling.

Something was terribly wrong. She knew it.

"Ah hear yelling".

"I'm calling for backup", Orange said.

She got out her pager. She pressed the button and reported what Applejack heard. She gave the address.

"They should be here any minute".

Applejack heard shouting. It scared her. What was being done to Rainbow Dash??. What was the poor girl going through??.

The two waited for police to arrive. When they did, Applejack was relieved. Officers came up to them.

One kicked the door open. It wasn't locked. The group barged in. They immediately heard yelling coming from another room. Applejack and Orange rushed towards the sound. When they got to the room, they stopped.

Rainbow was on the floor, curled up. Her father was beating her with his fists, punching her.

He immediately stopped when he saw them. Police came into the room. Lightning backed away from Rainbow. The police grabbed him and put him in handcuffs, getting him away from the teen.

Applejack ran over to Rainbow Dash. She knelt down.

"Rainbow?".

Rainbow looked up at her.

"A-Applejack??".

Orange hurried over to them. The two helped her sit up. Rainbow was bruised up already. She clung onto Applejack. Applejack wrapped her arms around her. The two held her in their arms when Rainbow started crying.

"Shhh".

Applejack hugged her.

"Yir safe now".

Rainbow whinpered. She shook in her arms. Her dad was led away by police.
"YOU LITTLE BITCH. YOU JUST HAD TO OPEN YOUR STUPID MOUTH. I'LL GET YOU FOR THIS!!".

Rainbow covered her ears. Applejack glared at the man. She watched the officers lead him away. Applejack looked back at Rainbow Dash.

"Are you okay??", Orange asked.

Rainbow looked up, taking her hands off her ears. She looked at Applejack.

"You saved me".

Rainbow hugged Applejack. The blonde was surprised. She didn't expect that. She hugged back. She tightened her grip, protectively around the smaller girl.

"Thank you", Rainbow whispered.

Applejack smiled. "Yir welcome".

The two pulled apart. Rainbow looked away.

"Rainbow??", Applejack said.

Rainbow looked at her.

"How long has this been goin on??".

Rainbow's eyes lowered to the ground. She bit her lip.

"Since my mom died. My dad started drinking".

Applejack looked up at her mom. Orange looked at Rainbow Dash.

"Rainbow. Can I ask you some questions??".

Rainbow looked at her. She nodded.

"Does your dad drink alot??".

Rainbow nodded, looking at the floor.

"He gets drunk alot", she admitted quietly.

"Has he ever hurt you while drunk??".

Rainbow nodded again. "Yeah. He-".

Suddenly she stopped, closing her mouth.

"It's okay Rainbow", Applejack said. "You don't have ta hide anythin from us".

Rainbow sighed. "Yeah. He throws me around and beats me".

"When you were sitting next to your father", Orange said. "Where you afraid of him??. You were quiet and tense".

Rainbow looked up at the woman.

"Yeah. I was afraid. My dad told me you were coming. He told me not say much and let him do the talking unless you asked me directly. He told me to behave and not to embarrass him".

Rainbow??. Embarrass her dad??. No way. Applejack couldn't believe Rainbow's dad would think she embarrassed him. She was a great person. She was so nice and beautiful and shy and loving.

"Well, you're safe now", Orange said smiling. "You don't have to worry about him".

Rainbow nodded.

"What's gunna happen to me??", she asked, a bit fearful.

Orange sighed. "You'll have to move in with a relative until we figure that out".

"I don't have any family around", Rainbow said.

Orange frowned. "Hmm. I'm gunna go call someone. You girls stay here".

Orange stood up and walked away. It was quiet between the two girls. Finally Applejack spoke.

"You sure you're alright??".

Rainbow nodded. "Just a couple bruises. My dad beat me this morning so everything hurts".

Rainbow sighed and folded her arms loosely around herself. Applejack wrapped her arms around her. She pulled Rainbow closer.

"Rainbow. Ah'm so sorry. About everythin".

Rainbow shook her head. "You didn't do anything".

Applejack sighed. "Ah know. But ah still am. You know, ah care about you. Ah really do".

"You don't know me".

"Ah want to", Applejack said. "Ah want to get to know ya. Be friends. If that's okay".

Rainbow smiled brokenly.

"Okay".

Rainbow rested her head on Applejack's shoulder.

"My life sucks", she mumbled.

Applejack looked at her.

"You have me", she said.

Rainbow nodded. "Yeah. That's a good thing".

Orange came back.

"Well I talked to the child protection services and there's no available foster homes. I find that hard to believe but whatever".

Rainbow lifted her head.

"Then where do I live??", she asked. "A homeless shelter??".

"Actually", Orange said smiling. She knelt down. "You can live with us for the time being".

Rainbow's eyes widened. She smiled. "Really??".

The woman nodded. "Yeah. We have the room and the license for housing government kids".

Rainbow looked at her, beaming.

"Thanks. I'd hug you but-".

Orange wrapped her arms around Rainbow. Rainbow was surprised at first but then hugged back. Orange was like a mother to her. She liked this lady.

"I like you", she said.

Orange smiled and pulled away.

"I'm glad", she said.

Rainbow looked at Applejack. "I'm like you too".

Applejack chuckled. "That's good. Ah like you too".

Rainbow sat back. Orange stood up.

"C'mon. Let's get you to a hospital. We gotta make sure you're alright, just to be sure".

Rainbow nodded. Applejack helped her up. They went outside. There was an ambulance and police cars. Paramedics came up to them. Rainbow backed up in fear. She held on to Applejack.

Applejack looked at her. Poor girl probably never seen a paramedic before. All this must scare her.

"It's alright", she said, touching her hand.

"They're here ta help you".

Rainbow looked at her. She looked uncertain and afraid. They couldn't blame her.

"You want me ta come with you??", AJ asked.

Rainbow nodded. The paramedics allowed them.

"Be careful", Orange said to Applejack. "I'll follow in my car".

Applejack nodded. She and Rainbow went to the ambulance. Rainbow put on a stretcher. She laid down, wincing in pain.

Applejack didn't leave her side. She was there with her the ride there. She was there in every room with Rainbow through each inspection and exam and xray.

Rainbow had a few bruised ribs and bruising and hand marks on her body. Nothing life threatening. Applejack couldn't believe someone would do that to their child.

Now the two were laying in hospital bed. Rainbow laid her head on Applejack's chest.

Applejack noticed she looked tired. She was fighting the urge to sleep. Applejack smiled.

"You can go ta sleep", she said. "Ah'll still be here".

"Promise??", Rainbow asked, a fearful look in her eyes.

Applejack nodded. "Here's somethin about me", she said. "Ah only tell the truth. When ah promise somethin' ah don't ever break it. Ever".

Rainbow smiled. "Thanks".

Rainbow snuggled into her embrace. Applejack had an arm around her waist. In minutes Rainbow was asleep. Applejack could hear the soft breathing. Applejack smiled. Rainbow looked cute. She had to admit it.

Applejack sighed. This girl was going to have a rough next few months ahead of her. But Applejack knew that she was gunna be by Rainbow's side every step of the way. She wasn't gunna leave her alone through this.

She pulled the blanket up, watching her sleep. She ws gunna keep her safe. No matter what.

Just like she said before. Rainbow was safe with her. She was gunna keep that promise. Ain't nothing gunna hurt Rainbow Dash again. Not on her watch.
