A mother's love
Happy Mother's Day everyone, I hope you all have a great day. Even if you don't have a mother, I hope you have a mother figure in your life or maybe your father is your dad and mom or whatever the case may be. Also, I have decided that I am going to keep writing my oneshots with my own backstory and OCs for RD's parents. And just in time, too for this special one shot that'll be heavily showing Rainbow's backstory and her parents' OCs from me. Enjoy :)
----------------
Rainbow laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling like she had for the last ten minutes. She sighed silently, her chest rising and falling slowly. A sense of numbness washed over her.
Today was Mother's Day. Rainbow was already drained and ready to go back to bed.
But, she had a party to go to.
Rainbow dragged herself out of bed, even though her brain was begging her to turn around and go back to her warm bed. She dragged her feet across the carpet floor, heading towards her door, her eyes still closed, clouded with sleep. She grabbed her towel off the hook on the wall beside the door and headed out to take a shower.
--------------------
Rainbow rung the doorbell. She waited outside Twilight's front door, stuffing her hand in the pockets of her hoodie.
A few seconds later, the door swung open and Rainbow was grabbed. Rainbow didn't have time to even make a sound as she was pulled inside the home.
Rainbow was pulled down the hall, the echo of the door slamming closed could be faintly heard as Rainbow was whisked through the house, narrowly missing bumping into objects.
"PINKIE!!." she shouted, silently praying she wouldn't bang into anyone or anything as she was forced to run as fast as possible. She had never thought of a day where she dreaded running so fast more than right now.
Pinkie and Rainbow rounded a sharp corner and made a left into the living room.
"Rainbow's here!!."
Rainbow's hand was released. She glared at Pinkie, panting lightly.
"Seriously??." She said.
Pinkie giggled. "What??. Too much??."
Rainbow rolled her eyes. She heard giggling. She looked around the room. She smiled when she saw the girls and Spike and their moms.
"Rainbow Dash." Twilight said, standing up from the couch.
She walked over to Rainbow and Pinkie.
"We're so glad you could make it."
Rainbow gave Twilight a side hug. She smiled.
"Wouldn't miss it."
"Hey, babe." Rainbow heard
Rainbow turned her head towards the sound of the voice and smiled. She saw Applejack walking towards her. Rainbow held out her arms.
"Hey, Apples."
Applejack embraced her, hugging her close. She pecked Rainbow on the lips. Rainbow blushed a light pink. She looked at Applejack.
"Missed me??."
Rainbow grinned and nodded. "I miss you whenever I can't see you."
Applejack chuckled. "So romantic. You're quite a Romeo."
"Dinner's almost ready." Twilight announced. "C'mon, you two. You can flirt during dinner all you want."
"Yeah." Came the squeaky voice of Applebloom, who was sitting beside Big Mac, watching tv.
"Stop makin' out and let's eat, ya'll. Hi, Rainbow."
The two lovers pull apart, blushing.
"I'm hungry." Rainbow stated.
Applejack laughed. "Then let's go eat some food, ya nut."
Rainbow allowed Applejack to lead her towards the kitchen.
----------------
The party was in full swing. Music was playing. Chatter filled the room, the smell of food intoxicating the house. Everyone was laughing, watching tv, and having a good time.
Well, almost everyone.
Applejack was sitting in the couch, watching her girlfriend sitting on the opposite side of the room, staring blankly at the floor. Rainbow was only like this when she had something on her mind or if she was bothered by something.
Another thing Applejack had noticed was that Rainbow's mom hadn't shown up. She was hoping to meet the woman. Applejack had never seen any pictures or anything of Rainbow's mom. Rainbow didn't talk about her much and always changed the subject when Applejack asked about her parents. All Applejack knew about her parents was that their names were Lightning Dash and Eden Dash. But that was it.
But Applejack thought it was weird to not have Rainbow be with her mom on Mother's Day. Of course, Rainbow always called Applejack's mom, Orange slice, Mom. Rainbow came over Applejack's house so much that she was basically part of the family. She was sports buddies with Applejack's dad and another daughter to Orange. Rainbow would get hugs and kisses on the cheek from Orange. On an occasion she would drag Rainbow to the store to buy new clothes for Rainbow Dash or anything she needed.
Rainbow didn't seem to mind one bit. Which was a shocker since the girl could hardly focus on one thing for more than three minutes at a time. Orange was also as protective and caring towards Rainbow as she was to Applejack and her siblings. It was crazy.
Applejack got up. She walked across the room, over to where Rainbow was sitting. Rainbow saw her and looked up at her. Applejack knelt down in front of the other teen, resting her arms on Rainbow's knees.
"You okay?? Where's your mom?? Ain't she comin??." She asked in a low voice.
Rainbow looked away.
"Um. I gotta talk to you about my mom."
Applejack straightened up. It sounded serious. Applejack became concerned.
"Okay. What's wrong??."
Rainbow sighed, looking away.
"Um........ my mom died when I was little."
Applejack's eyes widened. Why was she just finding this out?? She and Rainbow had been going out for nearly two years. Why just tell her this now??
Applejack deflated a little as she thought about it. Rainbow came to a Mother's Day party, surrounded by friends with their own moms, while her own mom was dead. That must be so hard for her.
"Rainbow....."
Applejack had no idea what to say.
"Ah'm so sorry."
Rainbow nodded, not making eye contact.
"Yup."
"Rainbow."
The girls looked up. They saw Applejack's mom standing not even two feet away, a look of shock and concern and heart ache on her face. Orange walked over to the girls. She sat down next to Rainbow, not taking her eyes off of her. She sat with her body facing Rainbow.
She stared at Rainbow for a few seconds.
"Your mother is dead??."
Rainbow nodded. She looked at the floor. "Yeah. She died when I was about six."
"Cmon." She said. "Let's go outside and talk."
Rainbow nodded. The three got up and walked through the house, and out the front door. The three sat down on the porch, the porch giving them enough shade from the spring sun.
Orange sat on one side of Rainbow Dash, facing her.
"May ah ask what happened??." Orange asked.
Applejack took Rainbow's hand. Rainbow looked at her. She smiled before it disappeared. She looked at the ground.
"My dad killed her."
Applejack looked up at her mom. The two shared a look of horror and disbelief and pity for the girl. Poor Rainbow.
Orange looked at Rainbow. She saw her eyes welling up.
"Rainbow." She said quietly. "Do you think you can tell us why he killed her??."
Rainbow sniffled. She rubbed her nose. She sat up a bit straighter.
"Um........ he wanted her dead because of her money. He got rich off of her fortune since she was very wealthy. He killed her right in front of me."
Rainbow had a look in her eyes. She was remembering.
"It was my fault."
Orange was quick to respond.
"NO."
Rainbow jumped at her tone of voice. She looked up at the woman. Orange had a fierce look in her eyes.
"Don't you ever say that, Rainbow." She said. "It was not you fault. You did not cause your father to kill your mom. You didn't, you understand me??."
"Yes, I did." Rainbow countered. "If I had tried to stop him-."
Orange shook her head. "No, baby. There would've been you could've done to stop him. You were a little girl."
Rainbow stared at the woman for a moment.
"Is that why I couldn't stop him from beating me everyone after she died??."
Applejack's mouth fell open. She looked at Rainbow.
"Yir dad....."
Rainbow looked at her. She nodded slowly. She looked at Orange, who looked horrified.
"Yeah. He blamed me for her death. He hated me and he'd make sure I knew it. He'd beat me all the time, almost never breaking a bone, though."
She sniffled. She blinked, tears rolling down her cheeks. Rainbow felt an arm around her.
"He threatened to kill me if I told anyone. Then when I got older, I started to realize I like girls and-."
Rainbow pursed her lips together. She let out a quiet sob, placing a hand over her mouth. She shrugged.
"I don't know what I did to make him hate me so much." She sobbed. "He wouldn't stop. Nothing I did or said made him happy with me."
Rainbow wiped her tears away. She sighed heavily and looked at Orange. The woman said nothing.
Rainbow was afraid of her reaction. She bit her lip. She was surprised when Orange wrapped her arms around her, hugging her. Rainbow slowly hugged back.
"I love you, Rainbow." Orange said. "I do. Never forget that."
Rainbow felt herself get emotional again. Orange rubbed her back.
"If you ever need to talk or need some motherly advice or just wanna talk, come find me."
Rainbow was touched deeply. Orange hadn't said she was there for her. She said to come find her. She wanted Rainbow to come to her if she was in need of a motherly figure.
"I will." She promised.
Rainbow pulled away. She and Orange looked at each other. Orange tucked a lock of hair behind Rainbow's hair.
"Rainbow. I love you as if you were my daughter. I truly believe that if your mother was here, she'd be so proud of you. You're beautiful, kind, brace, funny, energetic, very loyal and confident. You're the captain of all the sports teams at your school, and I think that's amazing. I'm so proud of you. I really am."
Rainbow smiled. "You are??."
Orange nodded. "You betcha I am."
She took Rainbow's hands.
"If you ever need me, call me. I don't care what time. I'll help you with whatever it is. And I want you to remember this."
Rainbow nodded. "Don't you ever let anyone tell you you're not good enough or not beautiful or not smart enough. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. You prove them wrong. Don't let anyone tell you that no one loves you. I love you. I really do and it breaks my soul to know that you had been through so much as a little girl and you grew up without love from your mom. But I'm here now."
She shook her head. "I don't want to replace her. But I want to fill in the place in your life that your mother was. I already love you like a daughter. Now, I'm making it official. I consider you my other daughter and I'll always love you."
Rainbow smiled as Orange kissed her forehead.
"Thank you." She said. "That means so much to me. I always looked at you like my mom. You take care of me like a mom should and I'll forever be grateful to you and your husband and Applejack for loving me so much."
She smiled. "Happy Mother's Day. I love you."
Orange smiled adoringly at her, tears in her own eyes. She enveloped the teen in a hug.
"Thank you, Rainbow. I love you, too."
Rainbow smiled as she felt the warm, welcoming embrace of a woman. The kind of embrace she had longed for since her mother passed.
Orange felt a sense of responsibility for Rainbow. To keep her safe, fed, healthy, and happy. She knew the girl had missed out on a lot of mother-daughter things in life. She now knew the girl had been raised in a horrible environment and it broke her heart.
She vowed to herself and to Rainbow's mom that she'd do everything in her power to help Rainbow through life as a mother figure. To be there for her and support her and encourage her every step of the way. Rainbow deserved it.
Orange looked up at Applejack. She smiled.
"Never let her go." She mouthed silently. "She's a keeper. I want her around."
Applejack giggled. She nodded.
"Me too."
Orange silently sighed, kissing Rainbow's cheek. This was a very happy and emotional Mother's Day for them both.
Hopefully, from now on, Mother's Day would be filled with love and joy for Rainbow. She thought Rainbow's mom would agree completely.
So yeah. Tell me what you think :)
