"Why don't you have wings??".

Rainbow froze. She looked up at Applejack.

"Ah mean if ya don't wanna tell me then ya don't have to. Ah was just wonderin' is all".

Rainbow smiled. "It's okay. I'll tell you".

Applejack turned and faced her.

Rainbow sighed. "I'll never forget that day".

~flashback~

Rainbow flew around the castle, saying hi to the guards and servants as they passed the young princess.

She was heading to the throne room to see her dad. He had promised to take her to diamond mountain. Little Rainbow arrived and landed on the floor without a sound in her step.

"No. You cannot take her place".

That was her father. He didn't sound happy.

"Why not??. I mean she probably has no clue as to how to properly run a kingdom".

Being a curious child Rainbow hid behind a large pillar and peeked out.

"How dare you speak of my daughter that way. I thought you loved her Thunderstorm. She is your niece that loves you very much".

The man sneered. "Oh please Rainbow has been a thorn in my side since day one. How is someone so happy all the time. I can't stand that glow around her".

Rainbow frowned at the words. She didn't mean to be a bother to her uncle.
The 7 year old stayed still and silent.

"Don't you dare speak ill of my daughter. Everyone loves her and I am sure with the right guidance she will make a great queen".

"Trust me brother. You're wrong. I should be ruler of Avalen!!".

"Get out!!".

Rainbow jumped at her father and uncle's yelling. She quickly flew out of t he room unseen. The little girl zipped through the halls, her wings fluttering quickly.

She went into her room and shut the down. Rainbow sat down on the floor with her toys and busied her mind.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

"Come in!", she called.

The door opened and her father walked in.

"Daddy!!".

Rainbow got up and flew over to her father. The king laughed and hugged the young girl.

"Ready to go??", he asked.

She nodded smiling. She wanted nothing more than to get away from the castle for a while. The two left the castle. They took a Pegasus with them. Kicker. Rainbow's favorite pegasus. She had gotten pegasus for her 4 birthday. The two were inseparable. No matter where Rainbow went in the kingdom, Kicker was there too.

They went to the stables and got Kicker. The male pegasus was happy to see the princess.

"Let's go!!".

The three set off into the morning sky laughing and smiling.

"So you had wings once??", Applejack asked.

Rainbow nodded. "Yeah I did".

"What happened??".

Rainbow sighed.
~back to flashback~

"You're father said I can take you out for the day".

"Really??. I thought he was going to take me", Rainbow said sadly.

"Wel you get to spend some time with me today. Your father is busy today so he told me to take you instead".

Rainbow smiled.. She looked at her uncle. The man had pale skin, unlike his brother. Thunderstorm wore a dark purple cloak with a golden pendant attacked to his belt. A sword at his belt. The man was scary looking compared to his older brother. The king at the time had pale blue skin, green eyes, short rainbow hair, that looked great with the golden crown on his head.

The man smiled. "Come on Rainbow. Let's go while the day is young".

"We need to take Kicker", Rainbow said.

"Oh nonono. That isn't necessary", Thunderstorm said.

Rainbow frowned. "Why not??".

"Because we don't need him. You trust me right??".

Rainbow was hesitant but finally agreed. The two left on their own. Rainbow was heart broken that her beloved pegasus wouldn't be there with her but she quickly forget it when they got there.

The two had so much fun, flying around and laughing. It was around sunset when Rainbow had begun to get tired. She and her uncle were sitting on a large rock.

"Here. You must be thirsty".

Rainbow was handed a bottle. Being a little girl and not thinking of what was in the bottle she drank it. It tasted like grape juice.

The princess and become extremely tired, her eyes drooping. She leaned on her uncle and fell asleep.

She woke up to a pain in her back. The little girl's eyes opened. She realized that she was alone. She was alone and that scared her.

"Daddy!!!. Mommy!!".

A pain in her back made her hiss. She twisted to see what was causing her so much pain. The little girl gasped. Her wings....... were gone. Her beloved wings had been cut off leaving only stubs on her back.

Rainbow got up and looked around. It was dark. She had no idea of how to get home.

Suddenly she heard voices.

"Rainbow!!".

It was her father.

"Rainbow are you here??!!".

That was her mother's voice.

The little 7 year old ran towards the voices. Suddenly she saw a group of people with lanterns, flying around. She saw her parents.

"Mommy!! Daddy!!".

She ran to them. The king and queen spotted their daughter.

Rainbow didn't see the edge of the cliff until it was too late. The princess fell right over. She let out a scream.

"Rainbow!!".

Kicker heard her scream and dived after her. He was much faster and was able to be at the same distance as the young girl. Rainbow saw him and grabbed on to him. The pegasus did dive and gently flew back up.

Kicker flew over to the royals. The king scooped up his daughter and hugged her.

"Rainbow. Are you alright??".

Rainbow hung on to him.

"Why were you here??", the queen asked.

"Why didn't you fly??".

Rainbow began to cry.

"I'm sorry Daddy. I'm really sorry".

The king looked at her in confusion.

"What do you mean??".

"Put me down", she said.

The king went over to the rocky Mountain trail and put her down. Rainbow turned around. Everyone gasped. The king couldn't believe it.

Her wings were gone.

Rainbow looked at her father.

"I'm sorry daddy. I didn't mean for it to happen. Please don't be angry".

Tears ran down her face. The king shool his head. Kneeling down he said, "Oh Rainbow. I'm not angry. I could never be mad at you. Now tell me. Why were you here??".

"Uncle Thunderstorm took me here".

The king frowned. "Why??".

"He said that you were busy so you told him to take me instead".

"Did you??", the queen asked.

The king shook his head. He looked at his daughter.

"I fell asleep and now I can't find him. He left".

The king did not look happy.

"Darling what was the last thing you remember??", her mother asked.

"He gave me a drink and then I started to get tired".

"He did this".

Rainbow looked at her father. The man picked her up and put her on top of Kicker.

"You'll take good care of her", the king said to the pegasus. He nodded his head.

The group took off back to the castle.

Rainbow looked at her father, who was holding her shoulders to steady her.

"Did uncle Thunderstorm do this??", she asked.

"Yes. But don't worry Rainbow. He won't hurt you again".

They arrived at the castle. Her father picked her up and they quickly flew inside.

"Daddy??".

The king looked at her.

"Do you still love me??"

The king stopped. Rainbow looked at her parents.

"Of course darling", her mother said.
"We will always love you. No matter what".

"I'm scared of what the other fairies are gunna say. What if they don't like me anymore or they make fun of me??".

"They won't. I promise", her father said.

Rainbow nodded.

The next Rainbow was told that they were going to the village for an important announcement. Rainbow had a feeling it was about her uncle but she wasn't sure. She got dressed with the help of her mother.

The night before doctors had come had took out the stubs of her wings. They patched her up. They told her that her skin would be better soon and not to worry.

Rainbow rode on Kicker to the town, guards on either side of her. She liked the guards. Especially Blade. He was the captain of the guards. He was very nice to the princess and they became friends. He flew on the right side of the princess, alert and glanced at her every few minutes.

They arrived at the town. Rainbow saw that all of Avalen was there. They landed. Rainbow was helped off. She stayed with her mother.

"Your highness", a man said bowing.

Rainbow knew that he was one of her dad's friends. He was always in the castle. She liked him and she thought he was very smart.

"We've gathered the people. You wanted us to be here as well".

The king nodded. "Thank you Whirlwind".

He looked at the crowd.

"I have called you here because I want you all on alert for my brother. He needs to be found and arrested immediately".

The crowd began too whisper among themselves. Rainbow held her mother's hand.

"Why??", one of the fairies asked.

Rainbow saw her father look at her. He motioned for her to come to him. The girl walked over to him calmly. She faced the crowd.

"As you all know my beloved daughter, princess Rainbow".

Rainbow looked out at the crowd. She waved shyly.

Her father turned her around. Rainbow heard gasps. She turned around.

"That monster wanted to take her place on the thrown and was so angry at my refusal that he tricked her into going with him to the waterfall without me knowing and cut her wings off. My brother needs to be found immediately. So if you find him take him down".

Rainbow looked at her father then at the crowd. She felt all the eyes on her. She saw a girl fly over to her. It was a girl with Pinkie hair. The girl fluttered over to her and stood before her. She bowed.

"Hello your highness".

Rainbow smiled. "Hello".

The girl smiled. "I'm Fluttershy. I think you still look pretty without your wings. You're still you".

Rainbow smiled. "Really??".

Fluttershy nodded.

"Thank you. I thought noone would like me without wings", Rainbow admitted.

"Why your highness".

The two girls turned and saw a few villagers looking at them.

"Of coarse we still like you. You're our princess with or without wings. Nothing will change that", a man said.

"If there's anything you need. Just ask".

Rainbow smiled. She, her father and Fluttershy went down to the crowd. Fairies gathered around them, fretting over their princess. Rainbow smiled. The fairies treated her just as nice.

"Don't worry your highness", a man said. "We'll find him".

Rainbow sat on her throne. Her uncle stood before her and her parents. Guards had him.

"Thunderstorm. I here by banish you to the forbidden forest. You have until sunset to leave and never come back or else face execution".

Rainbow looked at her uncle sadly. She still loved her uncle though he had taken something very special to her away. But she knew that he deserved it.
~end of flashback ~

"That was the last time I saw him again".

Applejack sat there, silently.

"Ah..........Ah am so sorry Rainbow".

The blonde reached out and took her hand. Rainbow blushed a bright pink.
"If you ever need to talk, Ah'm here for ya".

Rainbow smiled.

"If know. Thanks".

Applejack sighed. "Wow. It's late".

Rainbow looked around. She saw that it had gotten dark. The girls stood up.

"Twilight?? Pinkie??", Applejack called.

"Over here!!".

Twilight and Pinkie came into view.

"We just finished reading about some cool systems that Avalen made over the thousands of years", Twilight beamed.

"There is so much information about Avalen in this room".

Rainbow smiled.

"Glad you like it".

Rainbow yawned tiredly.

"I think it's time for your bedtime", Applejack joked.

Rainbow laughed. "Shut up".

The girls said bye to Hamon. Rainbow showed the girls to their room rooms.

They were quite elegant. Satin sheets, soft bed and pillows.

"My room is next door", Rainbow said to Applejack. The blonde looked around the room. It was really nice. Green sheets and a canopy bed.

Twilight and Pinkie shared a room next door. The loved their room. Pinkie had flopped onto her bed. Rainbow shut the door laughing.

"You'll be okay alone??", Rainbow asked.

AJ nodded. She smiled and said, "I'll be just fine. You go get some sleep".

Rainbow smiled. "I'll be up reading a bit in my room so I'll be up a while".

Applejack nodded. Rainbow walked over to her. She hugged her. Applejack was surprised but hugged back.

"Thank you", Rainbow whispered.

"Fir what??".

Rainbow pulled away. "For being there for me when I need you".

Applejack smiled. "And ah ways will be".

Rainbow turned and walked out of the room.

"Goodnight", she said.

"G'night", Applejack replied.

Rainbow shut the door. Applejack sighed looked at her bed. There were some pyjamas on the bed. She changed and explored the room. She found a book to read. It was an adventure book about a princess going on a rescue mission to save her friends.

Applejack got up the fourth chapter when she decided to check up on Rainbow. Putting the book down she got off the bed. She opened the door and looked out into the hall. There were lamps on the wall. She walked down the hall to Rainbow's room.

Opening the door Applejack peered inside. She saw Rainbow sitting at her desk, asleep. The blonde quietly walked over to her. Rainbow had a book on the desk and had fallen asleep.

Applejack smiled. Rainbow looked so cute when she was asleep. She picked her up and carried her to her bed. She laid the sleeping princess on the bed and pulled the blanket up. She sat down on her bedside. Leaning down Applejack kissed her cheek.

"Goodnight Rainbow", she whispered.
Getting up she blew out the candle and walked out, closing the door softly.

She turned around and stopped. The king stood there smiling gently.

"Hello your majesty", she said quietly.

The king smiled at her.

"I want to personally thank you for saving my daughter. If you hadn't been here I don't think Rainbow would be either. You've saved her life twice. How do you do it??".

Applejack shrugged.

"Ah guess the first time was because me an the gals have some skill with a sword and the second time was because ah was lucky ta grab her in time".

The king smiled. "Rainbow is lucky to have a friend like you. I know she told you about her wings. I think it's a good thing you know what happened. Now you know why Kicker is always with her", he said.

Applejack nodded.

"It was a terrible time for her. She had adjust to life without flying. I refuse to let her leave the castle without an escort but now I think she may need it again".

Applejack nodded.

"That's why she has you", the king said.

Applejack was surprised that he said that. He trusted her to keep Rainbow safe. She felt honored.

"I'm....glad you feel that way", she said.

The king walked over to her. "You're very speacial to her. You know that??".

Applejack'seyes widened.

The man nodded. "Yes. I can tell. You like her don't you??".

Applejack blushed but in the dim light, she hoped the couldn't tell.

"Well, yeah".

The king smiled. "You'd be a first. Well I must be off. Goodnight and see you in the morning".

Applejack turned and walked into her room. She shut the door with a soft click.

Walking over to her bed and she climbed in and laid down. She made sure her sword was beside her bed. She had a nagging feeling that she would need it. She closed her eyes and fell asleep.
