"So this is a........ hat??".

Rainbow held the strange item in her hands. She examined it carefully. Applejack noticed the look of curiosity in her eyes.

"Yeah. You put put on your head".

Taking the hat from Rainbow she placed it on her jead. Surprisingly it was a good fit. Applejack smiled. Rainbow looked at her. The pair was sitting crossed legged on the ground.

Rainbow spotted something. Applejack turned and looked down. Her compass laid on the ground next to her. Picking it up she glanced over at Rainbow.

"This is a campass. It helps you find your way when your lost. The red needle right there". She showed Rainbow the object. Rainbow took it in her hands.

"It's always points North. It helps ya ta get where ya goin".

Rainbow looked up at her.

"So. How do your people greet eachother??".

Applejack smiled. "Well, I'll show you. It's called a handshake".

She held out her hand. Rainbow stared at it for a few seconds.

"No thing's happening".

AJ laughed. "No, you have ta give me your hand".

Rainbow slowly raised her hand and Applejack shook it in hers. She moved their hands up and down slowly.

"See. A handshake. This is how we greet other people or we just say hi".

Rainbow looked so interested in what Applejack was saying.

"This is how my people say hello".

She raised her hand in a rainbow shape.

"Wingapo".

Applejack copied.

"Wingapo".

Rainbow smiled.

"Good. Now Applejack...... what a strange name. Twilight Sparkle. Rarity".

AJ grinned.

"You have strange names too. Cloud kicker. Soarin. Fluttershy. Eden. Lightening. Rainbow Dash".

Rainbow smiled and looked away.

"So. Why are you and your people here??".

"For the gold. We're here ta dig up the gold that's in the dirt in this land".

Rainbow looked confused.

"Gold??. What's that??".

"You don't know what gold is??".

Rainbow shook her head. "We don't use anything call gold. We use natural things. Like sticks and logs, and herbs and berries. We fish for food".

Applejack laughed a bit.

"What's so funny??", Rainbow asked.

"Thank goodness we came here. We can teach you about that. That's another reason we came here. We've taught people like you all over the world how to live civilized".

Rainbow had a hurt look on her face. She got up and walked over to a tree. She scaled the tree.

Applejack went after her.

"What do mean people like me??".

Applejack grunted as she held on to a thick banch.

"Well you know..... uncivilized people".

Rainbow dropped down onto another branch.

"What is civilized to you??".

Applejack went after her. She struggled to keep a grip on the bark while Rainbow hung from them with ease.

"Well, we tach them to build and to cook properly. We have proper houses for them".

Suddenly Rainbow dropped in front of her.

"Our houses are fine", she argued.

AJ grinned.

"That's because you don't know any better".

"So what are we??".

Rainbow jumped off onto another branch. Applejack copied her, keeping her hat on her head.

"Wel, you know. Savages".

"Savages??".

Rainbow looked upset at the name.

"Ah didn't mean it like that. What ah mean is- ahhh!!!".

AJ screamed as she fell off. She landed on the ground with a thud.

She groaned and sat up. Her hat fell over her face.

Rainbow jumped down, landing on her feet. Kneeling she slowly lifted the hat up.

"What you mean is, not like you??".

Applejack looked up with a blush.

"Ah guess so".

Rainbow walked over to where Applejack's gun laid leaning on a rock. Picking it up she looked at it in disgust. Walking up to Applejack she harshly dropped it into her hands.

"You think I'm an ignorant savage. You've been to so many places so I guess it must be so. But still I cannot see if the savage one is me".

Rainbow sighed.

"I want to show you something", Rainbow said.

She led Applejack over to a tree and right next to it was a rock.

"Your people think that you claim what ever land you want. You think the earth is a dead thing you can claim".

Rainbow touch the rock and tree.

"But I was taught that every thing as a life, a spirit, and a name".

Suddenly a multitude of butterflies came almost out of nowhere. Applejack smiled at the creatures. She turned around. She frowned.

A brown bear stood there. The blonde raised her gun. Rainbow suddenly stopped her, lowering her gun.

"Don't. You can't kill that bear. Come on".

AJ looked up at the bear. She and Rainbow took a small walk. They came to cave. There was the bear.....with her cubs.

Applejack stood there for a moment. The bear had cubs. She felt bad now. Had she killed the mama bear, her cubs wouldn't have a mother. Rainbow walked right up to the bear family.

The mother bear didn't seem to mind. Rainbow picked up one of the cubs. Applejack walked up beside her.

"If you walk in the footsteps of a stranger", Rainbow said motioning to the mama bear.

"You learn things you never knew you never knew".

The bear cub look at Applejack. It swung a paw and tip the blonde's hat. The two girls giggled.

Putting the cub down Rainbow looked up at the sky.

"Have you ever heard the wolf hound to the blue corn moon??", she asked.

Applejack shrugged. "Not really".

Rainbow looked at her.

"Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grins??".

Applejack gave her a, "Are you for real??" Look.

"No".

"Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains??".

Applejack raised an eyebrow. Rainbow took her hand. They walked out to a grassy field.

"Can you paint with all the colors of the wind??".

Rainbow spun in the wind. Applejack swore she saw colors in the wind. Red, blues, yellows, greens.

The wind was blowing so hard it was able to lift then off the ground. Rainbow and Applejack grabbed eachother's hand as they were lifted up by the wind.

Suddenly a herd of deer were running right beside them. The two ran into the forest. Rainbow ran ahead.

"Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest!!", she yelled back at Applejack.

Applejack ran to keep up. She smiled as the they ran through the forest.

Rainbow grabbed a few berries off a bush they passed. Handing some to Applejack she said, "Come taste the sun sweet berries of the earth".

The two ran out to a clearing. Applejack rolled down the hill laughing.

"Come roll in all the riches all around you".

Rainbow rolled down the grassy hill. She landed on top of Applejack gently. AJ looked up at the native.

"And for once. Never wonder what they're worth".

Rainbow stood up. Applejack laughed and got uo. She chased Rainbow down to the bay. The two jumped into the deep end of of the river. Breaching the two saw otters swimming next to them. A haron swooped down.

Applejack watched in awe.

"The rainstorm and the river are my brothers", Rainbow laughed.

Suddenly an otter popped out of the water next to the girls. The creature nudged Rainbow Dash.

"The haron and the otter are my friends", Rainbow explained.

Applejack smiled. The two swam to shore.

"Come on", Rainbow laughed.

She pulled the blonde through the grassy field. The that came upon a pair of hawks. Rainbow slowly walked over to them. The Hawks were surprisingly calm around her.
Rainbow held her arm out. One hawk looked at her. It climbed onto her arm. Standing Rainbow looked at Applejack.

She motioned for her to come over. AJ walked over to her.

"We are all connected to eachother".

Taking her hand Rainbow, Applejack and the Hawks formed a circled.

"In a circle. In a hoop that never ends".

Rainbow took her arm and raised up. The other larger hawk landed on her arm.

Applejack froze and looked at the large bird.

"It's okay", Rainbow assured her.

"He won't hurt you".

Applejack and her walked to the field near a rocky cliff. Rainbow stopped.

"On 3 lift your arm and they'll fly off. One, two, three".

The girls released the Hawks and watched them fly into the air.

"How high does the sicabore grow??", Rainbow asked rhetorically.

Applejack looked at her.

"If you cut it down", Rainbow said. "Then you'll never know".

Rainbow once again tool her hand. She led her to the rocky cliff. Looking up Applejack realized it was getting dark.

"And you'll hear the wolf cry to blue corn moon", Rainbow said.

"Whether you are white or coppered skin".

A gentle breeze blew by.

"We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain".

Rainbow looked at her.

"We need to sing with all the colors of the wind".

Suddenly Applejack looked down. On her shirt she saw a shadow of a bird. A breeze that carried beautifully colored leaves blew around her. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the feeling.

Applejack was pulled down off the mountain. The two made their journey back to where they began.

Rainbow kneeled down. Applejack did the same. Rainbow scooped up some dirt with her hands.

"You can own the earth and still". Applejack cupped her hands. Rainbow dropped the dirt into her hands. Applejack let it slip through her fingers.

"All you'll own is earth".

Rainbow took the taller girl's hands and they slowly rised to a stand.

"Until you sing with a the voices of the wind".

Something about that sentence made Applejack think. Rainbow Dash was right
She had never stopped and appreciated the things around her. The air, the grass, the animals.

The two stood there looking into eachother's eyes, the wind blowing their hair.

"Ah think ah get it now".

Rainbow smiled.

"What??".

Applejack replied, "The earth is full of things to be admired, like nature. It ain't for people ta destroy and take over. It's fir people respect and let it be".

Rainbow nodded.

"Yeah".

Applejack smiled. Looking up at the sky she saw it was dark.

"Ah must get back ta camp before they start to look for me".

Rainbow nodded.

"Will I see you again??", she asked.

Applejack took her hand.

"Of coarse".

The two walked backwards in opposite directions.

"See you soon, Rainbow Dash".

Rainbow nodded. She waved and turned. The two went their own separate ways. They would see each other again. But their next meeting would change everything.
